I feel that a gay black male has more courage than anybody. Although I do not have any kids I have two wonderful nieces that are gay and support them 1000%! I would be proud to have a gay child. I would just sit her or him down and just make them aware of other people and their beliefs.

It really does break my heart when I hear, see, or think about the way that homosexuals are treated, especially in the church. You have to be naive to not realize there is definite discrimination. I went to school with, and even go to church with people that are just like that....condemning people to hell because they don't 'agree with their lifestyle'. I've been reading the Bible since I was a little girl, and I've yet to come across the part of the Bible stating God's hate for any one entity of people. He despises sin, of course, but we all fall short as far as that is concerned. The point is...it's no one's business. 'Religious' people are SO concerned with judging others, like the Pharisees did to Jesus, that you can't see the basic human need for spiritual guidance. Anyone that uses Scripture as a weapon is definitely not doing as He has commanded, which is to love. Gay or straight, we are all human, and He loves us all.

My opinion is that disagreeing with the lifestyle is not the same as being homophobic. I may not personally agree with the lifestyle, but I have no fear or dislike of people who choose that lifestyle. What's frustrating for me is when people don't make the distinction that a person may not agree with it, but it does not mean they will discriminate or be hateful towards someone because of their sexual preferences.

Humans are not that simple (most) and most opinions are nuanced with many shades of grey. I’m a Christian, but I would never be found protesting against gay men/lesbian women, abortions, etc. because ultimately I respect free will and I recognize that things simply aren’t black and white. But, I do reserve the right to have an opinion even if it is not the popular one. We should encourage critical thinking; otherwise we fall into groupthink which can be just as dangerous as bigotry and so forth.
I'm a straight black woman and I can say that homophobia in the black community is strong as fuck! Because of that, not just gay blacks suffer the consequences because of it, but so many others who aren't even in the LGBT community do, especially black women and it's the saddest thing ever.
