    I loved the legacy collectons from 2004. Still display mine. I also hate the double sided dvd's. Glad they corrected that with the newer legacy sets.

    I really liked the Wolfman that came out around 2010 with Anthony Hopkins . I don’t understand why it gets such hate

      I've only seen it once, but I recall thinking it wasn't bad. I'll be revisiting it this year.

      Absolutely agree! It is the ONLY version of the newer Universal horror films I enjoyed. It is a great movie!

      I also enjoyed that version of the wolfman very much! It's fantastic. I fail to see why it was deemed a failure. It's the best version of the Wolfman in modern times.
      The Mummy with Tom Cruise was TERRIBLE. I do however like Russell Crow as Dr. Jekyll. Hoping he can reprise that role in self titled movie. (Just Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)

    Great movie packs. I swear, I remember seeing a video where someone pointed out that the Frankenstein Legacy Collection has Boris Karloff's head photoshopped onto Glenn Strange's body, but I can't find it to confirm it...

      Yes, I was told the same thing, but also haven't bene able to find any confirmation of that.

    I believe they also cleaned up the audio on Dracula...the 2004 release had a lot of static in the background

    I have Monsters The Essentials Collection. Can anyone tell me what legacy sets do I buy without getting too many repeats?

  • @hanksampson3060

    Great overview Sean. We purchased all of the Legacy collection sets (DVD) when they were originally released including the box with the monster busts and was surprised at the quality of craftsmanship there. My inserts suggest that the Stephen Sommers bit was different and exclusive to each collection but given the movie Van Helsing who cares? I’d be curious if Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein would be also included in the Blu Ray set for the Invisible Man given that the comedy duo do meet him in the final scene, voiced by the wonderful Vincent Price. I don’t know that I’d buy again in Blu Ray format though I must admit that I did get the Creature From the Black Lagoon and Wolf Man in that format (single titles) as they’re my favourites from the Universal line up.

    I have the original DVD "Legacy Collection" of Frankenstein. Fantastic set, really enjoyed all the movies on it. I also have the "75th Anniversary" edition of the original "Dracula" on DVD, the edition that only comes with the Spanish version, the version I have yet to watch. I just love the classic Universal Monsters. Great video.

      sfighter00 The Spanish Version of Dracula is the superior version in my opinion.

    I've got the first Frankenstein on Blu Ray and have the rest through the DVD edition of the legacy set. I really need to sell those and spring for the Blu Ray edition.

    I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with any of the original legacy editions?
    I've had issues with Dracula and the Frankenstein versions. It seems as if they all played fine for some time then in certain areas of these DVDs they seem to get a "Scrambled effect"
    I'm currently on my 3rd Frankenstein set. Only 2nd for Dracula.
    Not sure why they were fine when I first viewed them (Several times) then it showed defects later on.
    Anyone else have these issues?

    Decided to get the Dracula single blu ray disc mainly for the original poster art on the cover. Looks great, vibrant colors. Not a fan of the sequels anyways. Plus, with my Frankenstein Legacy BD set, I get the other three films featuring Dracula anyways. As you obviously know.

    I have all six of the second series, and though I’m satisfied with them the overlap of the same movies drives me nuts. The current 30 movie Blu-ray collection is still about $130, would you say it’s worth upgrading?

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  ปีที่แล้ว

      So that works out to an average of 21.66 per set, plus the set also includes Phantom of the Opera. I'd say that's a reasonable price. And definitely worth the upgrade, I've been rewatching them recently and was marveling at how good they look.

    The Region-free UK Blu-ray set of the 8 originals is less expensive than the US release. It may cheaper still in fact by buying from Amazon.uk.

    Ooh no, the ottoman is getting a little damaged.. :-( I've been meaning to obtain some of these Universal Monsters Legacy Collection sets. I hope there'll be a good deal on them come Black Friday.

    Spanish Dracula seems relegated to a bonus feature on a lot of these sets, even when it's arguably superior.

    I was disappointed with the 2004 Legacy collection. I didn’t like the picture Quality and I hated the double disc. I have bought the universal monsters movies on every format from VHS DVD and now Blu Ray. This new Legacy Collection boxset on Blu-ray is by far the Best these Movies ever look.

    Hey Sean,
    Can I recommend Terror Of Frankenstein it was done in 1977 and was made by the same guy that did In Search Of Dracula another film I know you own. The reason why I'm recommending it because it's said to be the closest version of Mary Shellys book.
    I know that's one thing you were trying to find with your reviews.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to try to track that one down!

      @@zaranyzerak Hey Sean I just watched Terror of Frankenstein n I can see how faithful it really is you would love it. Btw its also known as Victor Frankenstein 1977 not to be confused with the new Victor Frankenstein. Anyway hope you find it and add this great version in your collection.
      Also I'll just add lookup Frankenstein 1984 on TH-cam it's a TV movie starring Carrie Fisher as Elisabeth with is awesome.

    The Wolf Man has a direct sequel with Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man.

    • @zaranyzerak

      I know, but that's the first of the Monster Mash trilogy. Wolfman didn't get any SOLO sequels, the others did. That's what I was referring to.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I definitely plan to do Dark Shadows at some point, loved the original series (and the remake) and the movies, but I don't presently own the original series on DVD so I need to shell out the cash for that first. As the series is MASSIVE, I might do a weekly review series to cover it all at some point, maybe 5 episodes (a week's worth of the original broadcasts) at a time. That's the ideal way I'd like to do it. As to WHEN...well, once I have 400+ bucks to drop on the complete series set..lol

      Drak Shadows. Used to watch the reruns on The Sci-Fi Channel back in the early 2000's. Loved the movie.
