Quick Hip Impingement Test - FADIR Test (aka FAI)

  • The most common hip impingement test is the FADIR Test, named for the three movements it examines - Flexion, ADduction, and Internal Rotation.
Watch this video to learn how to perform this test yourself (it’ll take you just a couple of minutes to do).
If you test positive on the FADIR, it’s considered a strong sign of hip impingement.

Thank you for publishing your experience and know how about this issue !
The test you show in this video has been positiv on me almost my whole life (i know it since my 20es), and sometimes i felt pain by walking or in the yoga childs position for example ...
The one or the other doctor made the test and it has always been horribly painful.
So i know since years, something isn't right with my hips. But i lived with it ... and i could do almost every sport (ballet, swimming, hiking, yoga...).
With good times for my hips, so i can really forget it, and sometimes bad periods. In those times i had pain by walking or if i lift my knee to put shoes on etc.
I love, love streching, but infortunately, every kind of streching involving the hips made the issue worse.
Just one time, in a period, as it was a little bit mor painful (i was in my 40es) i had an MRT and the doctor said only, the labrum seems a little bit swollen. And i knew, labrum issues are the annoncement of future hip osteoarthritis...
But it was then better for a time and i didn't need any treatment. (I didn't have time fpr sports anymore in the last 10 years.
Well, a year ago (i'm school teacher ans 57 now) i wanted to do a short warm up with the kids and ... i couldn't show, how it goes ! It was IMPOSSIBLE to bring my knee close to my shoulder or even only in the right direction.
    I never had it before.
And now, a year later (it gone worse since the lock down, so nothing to do with wrong moves), i feel often pain in the night as well ... and i must concentrate my self very strong, when i go on my bicycle... my knee has to be perfectly straight, when it "looks" towards the middle, i shout out !
I'm very scared to go to the doctor, because i'm afraid, he will say i have osteoarthritis in my hips !
In the same time, i'm surprise, how i probably lives over 30 years with an hip inpingment without major issues.
I didn't see your other videos but i will try to reduce my inpingment with your exercices and tips and see...

Right now I’m currently serving in the military with a Marine infantry unit. If anyone knows anything about Marine infantry, you’ll know the extreme physical stress put on your body (Example: Ruck runs, constantly having a flak on you, hiking for sometimes 12+ miles with sometimes over 100 lbs on your body, etc etc.) which overtime kills your back, hips, and joints overall obviously. I have FAI and plan on getting out and putting in an application with Law Enforcement. My question I guess is... with FAI, can you still be successful with physically demanding jobs if it’s taken care of properly?

    • @PrecisionMovementCoach
      @PrecisionMovementCoach  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Of course you can! An important thing that anyone with a physically demanding job can do is to develop and practice an appropriate preventative maintenance routine. Another important thing that people like yourself can do is to mitigate the effects of the activities/postures that you are performing by tuning in to the feedback that you body is giving you, develop a tool-kit of movement strategies that can prevent overuse, and rest as much as possible. Nutrition and sleep are also important and should not be ignored. You must do your best to balance all of these things along with the tasks you have to perform.

Yes I do get the pinch in my right hip area as you showed in the video. It took me a while to respond back because honestly I can't tell which way it's tilted. I think it's lateral where right side is more higher then left. Can this be causing the pain behind my right knee. Also I can tell when when I'm standing straight both feet parallel the right leg feels like it's more backwards and knee area is drawing inwards or so. Could this be a sign of the lateral pelvis tilt? But there was an article I read about yours where it described your driving and you suddenly get out of the car and feel the pain. That is exactly what I felt and went through before. So to conclude i have the hip infringement since I felt the pinch, as for the which way tilted I am still really figuring it out but I think it's lateral. I have looked in mirror and I am always confused whether it's normal or one of the three.
I was thinking of starting jogging etc but behind the knee feels like I'm over exerting when straightening so not sure if I should jog or not.
