- Paul Aron is currently leading the Formula 2 championship in his rookie season. However, when discussing young F1 prospects, Paul's name is often overlooked in favor of Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman. So let's take a look at why we should take the talent of this former Mercedes junior seriously as he is poised to make a significant impact on the racing world...

As an Estonian, I absolutely love Paul Aron and hope he gets the shot and recognition he so very much deserves!
As a German who loves Estonia, i was really exited when i saw the thumbnail
He finally getting recognized, I love him! A F2 win should be coming soon, Think he is gonna get a good shot in spain on the win.
i reckon if he gets in the top 3 of this season alpine could get him onboard as a reserve if they sign jack doohan as a f1 driver
He’s better than doohan. Doohan finished third in F2 in his second year while Aron is leading in his rookie year
Unlikely if Vic remains
I raced jack doohan in karts, trust me, he aint that quick if I was better with the money he had lol
im super sad that he no longer has the resources to continue in f2 next year. he said this in an interview. He also says that if he finishes in the top few, he will be happy but is unsure if he can improve the following year. i really hope he makes it to f1. it wld be an absolute dream come true.
Although I rate Antonelli, and I really see him getting to F1, it would be an injustice if Aron doesn't make it...
Don't be so hasty there, I know Australians love an underdog, but let's get a few things straight. If you analyse ALL the drivers to ever win F2, especially all the drivers to win F2 on debut or to really impress such as Leclerc, Russell, Hamilton, etc. They were ALL AT LEAST 20 years old by the years end. The youngest ever F2 champion is Charles Leclerc from 2017. He was 20 years 1 month at the season's end at Abu Dhabi in November. Anyone expecting someone 17, 18, 19, etc. to win F2, and on debut, is fooling themselves. The right age for someone to win F2 is someone who will be aged 20-22 by the end of the year. This simply rules out both Bearman and Antonelli. Considering his age and experience level, Andrea Kimi Antonelli has been EXEMPLARY this season.
Onto Paul Aron, don't count the chickens before they've hatched. The upcoming 5 races in 6 weeks, the main European leg of the season, will decide how the F2 championship plays out. By the end of July we will know all about how it will play out. Barcelona, RB Ring, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa. In a season this tight, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I'm not dissing him, but he needs to keep putting in the performances that he has been so far, and it's a very close championship.
Cope, I've watched all F2 this season and Kimi have not been "Exemplary" 😅 so no, closer to the wall than podiums 😂
The Antonelli glazing man, “exemplary” seriously?
It’s so sweet watching Aron destroy Toto’s pet.
Antonelli is miles better than Aron and it’s not close, Aron has had the fastest car a lot of the time, doesn’t have a single win to his name and isn’t even leading the championship.
F2 2024 Standings
Aaron P3 with bad luck
Antonelli P8
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Arron, but I think people are getting a bit carried away here, even just comparing him to Antonelli, this year might be the first year in his career where Kimi doesn’t finish P1 in a championship whilst Arron doesn’t have any championship to his name. As for Paul he is fast, but never in his career has he been known for his outright speed or pace. His consistency was and still is his greatest strength. I think this season is a realistic representation of how he can perform at his absolute peak when he’s not making mistakes. He’s spoken at length about this new formula 2 car really suiting his requirements for what he likes in a car, it being really suited to him and Hitech really understanding this new car enough to provide him with a consistently good base lineup across every round. Pair that with the fact that in the opposite direction, lot of other teams and drivers around Hitech have lost their heads, then he’s going to look absolutely great, because he’s the only one who can actually keep it on the road, so whilst yes take nothing away from Paul, his season so far very much has been bolstered by everyone around him not being able to either keep it on the road or keep it consistent
He's still faster than antonelli though, its not like kimi has been crashing out. Also being third in a championship and being first really isn't that big of a deal in series like freca and formula 3, it matters in f2 way more
@@rasmus7493it does not matter in F2 way more, if you knew anything you would know it matters way less. f2 is no where near a spec series, while F3 and FRECA are at least a little bit closer to it than F2, There’s a reason Antonelli and Bearman are so hyped yet so far down in the standings, and F1 teams know this
Could you do a video on what's possibly going on with Victor Martins? A lot of people predicted him to be the F2 champ this year but he's like 20th out of 2022 drivers atm.
He's just been unlucky a few times when he was in contention for strong points. I'll make video on him after a couple more rounds
ART are completely terrible for some weird reason
Fun fact: Paul Aron has been beaten by a teammate in almost every championship he has competed beside 2021 FRECA and this season in F2.
2019 F4 Italy
-Aron: 3rd, 226 pts
-Petecof: 2nd, 233 pts
2019 ADAC F4
-Aron: 7th, 129 pts
-Petecof: 5th, 164 pts
2020 Formula Renault Eurocup
-Aron: 11th, 54 pts
-Martins: 1st, 348 pts
-Saucy: 7th, 95.5 pts
2022 Formula Regional Asian
-Aron: 8th, 80 pts
-Crawford: 6th, 113 pts
2022 Formula Regional European
-Aron: 3rd, 238 pts
-Beganovic: 1st, 300 pts
2023 FIA Formula 3
-Aron: 3rd, 112 pts
-O'Sullivan: 2nd, 119 pts
Meanwhile, Kimi has beaten every teammate he's had and has won every championship he has competed full time (and even the F4 ADAC in which he missed 3 races).
Another fun fact, Kimi's teammates have been way tougher having Oliver Bearman and Rafael Camara. Bearman already looking like a F1 future star and Rafael Camara dominating FRECA in his second year with double points than the 2nd driver in the standings after Kimi had almost double the points Camara had last season.
things is hes been good in the championships his teammates have beaten him, 2 have won the championship,2 came 2nd when he came 3rd in standings while most of the times hes been a rookie. and tbh he has been really good compared to expectations for him, he could be a superstar in f1 but like you said antonelli, bearman have a higher chance and if camara does well in f3 next year maybe him aswell
You gotta be kidding saying Kimi had tougher teammates than Aron.
Bearman would've been higher in the standings imo if he had competed in Jeddah.
As for Camara, yes he's a good driver but come on look at the points gap between them.
It's a little complicated comparing Antonelli to Aron because of the obvious age difference and Kimi skipping a couple of championships. That's why I didn't compare them too much. If both of them finish in the top 4 this year, that would be a great result.
@@f1alpaca0:20
@@f1alpacapeople are simpim had when Antonelly has been crashing and having issues and not even close to the podiums 😅
Some driver develop later and learn slower. Other have crazy talent but peak ealry, get cocky and stop developing. Aron is humble, hardworking and is still learning. But this year he's showing what he's really capable of.
as someone who has followed him closely the last few years there are a few better drivers even in f3 who did not advance to f2 this year, ive followed him since freca to f3 and then now f2 and Both Dino beganovic and Mini in my opion are the faster and better drivers, paul where had some better luck then others last year which made him almost ahev a chance at teh championship, I think he has the speed to be at least a midfeild driver in f1 its just that there are some even better talents that are yet to shine in f2
While I do agree with you that there might be better drivers out there, what I believe Paul has that others lack is quicker adaptability. Every time he jumped to a new series, he's been very quick from the start, sure he didn't win the championships but finishing in top 3 is also a great accomplishment. Plus, the jump to Formula 1 is a big one and quite unpredictable in most cases, drivers who did well in junior categories sometimes struggle a lot to extract the maximum from the car.
@@f1alpaca Completely agree. The way in which he makes his Hi-Tech teammate look like a really rubbish driver relly demonstrates what you just said. They have the same car, and Aron is just so much better at getting the most out of it. A very intelligent young mad and I do hope it gets noticed and valued.
@@steadyeddie2718Man his teammate is absolutely horrible 💀 He’s one of the worst on the grid, he’s only scored points because that Hitech is a rocketship, yet Aron still can’t win with it
I know he isn’t signed to an academy this year, but we’ve seen it before aswell, just look at Drugovich the most dominant f2 champion, who wasnt affiliated to any f1 team. He signed with Aston after clinching his f2 title. Paul will get signed if he wins, but to get a full seat he would need a lot of luck aswell , unless drivers like zhou, Sargeant, bottas, checo retire or leave its gonna be tough
Let's be real here. If he wins F2, there will be no seat in F1. Plus he is not backed by any F1 team currently.
By the time he would become champ, every single seat would be filled.
Now, if Red Bull still had balls they would hire him and give him Ric seat given that it's a junior team.
But i guess that even if he wins he will either become reserve for some team or go to other series.
That's the sad truth but sometimes unexpected things happen in F1
@user-tv9xd1uo6l Let's see
That would make it THREE seasons in a row where the F2 champion isn’t promoted
Making it virtually pointless
@@Duval-In-The-Wall It would make way worse actually because with Pourchair and Drugovich you can atleast argue that doing it in your third season isnt that good, but winning it in your rookie year in such a stacked grid is a much bigger statement
3:28 that should be an automatic contract negation with Haas F1 for 2025
Lol
Other thiings that gets usually overlooked is adaptability, ability to learn, race intelliigence/management, and the ability to create good relationships and commuicate well wth engineers. Where he may lack in pure speed (and I don't think he does really), in those other areas he's at the top in F2. But this stuff doesn't get valed by all the commentator and so called experts online.
Antonelli is two years younger than Aron, not three
Paul Aron F1 champion 2029
I agree he deserves a chance, though calling him the next superstar is a bit much, also pretty naive.
When has anyone from a tiny country without any financial backing got into F1? Teams look for money, someone to bring sponsors, or for someone to have massive market value i.e. a potential big follwing. Leclerq doesn't count as all French consider him their own. And he had a backing. Aron is from a country of 1 million with no money to his name.
Also, it seems wins, even if sporadic are valued a lot more than consistent performing at the top end. And wins at a young age seem to bank support from teams for years, even when results then drop, while consistent progression and drivers who develop slower and come good later get overlooked.
I don't agree with any of these warped ideas of who should be considered for an F1 seat, though I'm also biased. But even if Aron wins the Championship (and I think he's more likely to be 2nd or 3rd), I don't think he will get a look in for an F1 seat even then.
It's not always about how good you are in motorsport, it's often more about your background and who you know, which is sad.
He is good deserving of F1 but saying he is better than Kimi is like saying Alex albon is better than Max
right now he is
As good as he’s been this season… he won’t make it f1.
However, I would love to see him come to indycar. Prema are joining in 2025 and given his past with the team I would hope they give him consideration. Granted he needs to keep the performances going like he has been.
Before Indycar, I'd like to see him in F1 even if it's for a few races. I don't know why but I think he's F1 material similar to Lawson if not better
Hes never dominated any single seater series and does not bring in much sponsor money. Dont see any place for him in F1
He's been in the top 3 in almost all of them and has shown good speed and consistency in F2 so far. Sure, he might not have the sponsor money, but if he finishes in the top 3 or wins the championship this year, he would be a solid candidate who would be hard for F1 teams to miss. And yes, he might not get an F1 seat immediately but a reserve/development role would bring him into the fold and who knows he might get a chance through that.
@@f1alpaca If you look at the rookies from 2018 to 24 theres Leclerc, Russell, Norris, Albon, Piastri, Sirotkin, Latifi, Mick, Yuki, Mazepin, Zhou and Sargaent.
Either dominant in their junior careers or in some way or another bring in a lot of $. Thats why drivers like Aron and Dennis Hauger are never getting seats. Its not about their talent, but since theyre not bringing cash its not enough to win, they have to dominate.
This F2 season is also impossible to rate given the new cars. Having only 45 minutes to figure the setup for quali, sprint and feature race when you have no data whatsoever would be super hard even for F1 teams. Seems to be the reason why Ferrari/Haas and Merc dont care how Antonelli and Bearman are doing in F2.
@@gunders85any chance for isac hadjar?
@@rmdhnz1228 Its not out of the question, but its tough. Red Bull showed faith by keeping him when they scaled down their youth team, but as we have seen with Lawson, its hard. A lot depends on the results we dont get to see, in simulation and testing
Also. Theres no doubt hes fast, but he needs to get his emotions in check
Perhaps you can investigate where the money comes from to get these young drivers onto the doorstep to F1?
I mean, where it really comes from?
In Aron's case, there is money to investigate. One of the main reasons he'll never make it to F1.
@@steadyeddie2718an extremely well known F1 dad got wealthy very quickly during his childhood,as did another drivers mum
@@andrewpease3688 Sure. But this is irrelevant regarding Paul Aron.
Aron is good but I think people also need to look out for isack hadjar
Yes, Hadjar is also doing great.
Seeing as he doesn’t have the backing of an f2 team or any junior championships takes him out of contention. And I don’t think he’s better than Kimi tbh. If he was Merc wouldn’t have dropped him
I think a lot will depend on how he performs this season in F2, if he continues the form he's shown so far, it wouldn't be a surprise if he's signed by an F1 team before the end of the season.
Look, comparing him with Kimi is complicated, Kimi has won a lot of regional championships and has also skipped a couple. Even if Paul beats him in the championship this year, it wouldn't feel right to say directly that Paul is better than Kimi because of the age diff and the same goes if Kimi beats him as Kimi drives for Prema with all the backing from Merc.
And I don't know why Merc dropped him, they kept Vesti who's record I would say isn't as impressive as Aron considering the age.
The Antonelli hype is already suffocating, and he’s yet to score a podium lol
Also the midtonelli fans crying in the replies is so delicious. Kimi sucks
Yet Kimi is still a way better driver 👍
I didn’t even watch this bs Paul is just a basic driver who is in the best car with invicta f2 isn’t even equal
Do you even watch the F2 races or just the results?
Is there a reason you’re using AI for the voiceovers?
