This historic Japanese residence is located in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan, and is a museum open to all visitors. The residence is called The Nozaki Family Historic Residence.
In 1829, a man named Buzaemon Nozaki began to engage in the salt manufacturing business, and the area around this residence was all salt fields. Therefore, in the residence, various tools used in salt production, a storehouse where salt was stored, and the kitchen used by the salt workers have been preserved as they were in those days.
The Nozaki Family Historic Residence has a Japanese garden with a karesansui (dry landscape garden). It is rare to find a residence with such a magnificent Japanese garden in the Setouchi area.
