LaMelo Ball’s Hornets are one of the worst teams in the NBA this year. They have had injuries but there are much deeper problems within the organization. This is a look at what this means for LaMelo and how he got in this mess.

Don’t get me wrong, MJs failures definitely need to be addressed, but I don’t think any of y’all realize this team had a very promising future just a year ago. Literally all they needed was a center who was slightly above average at defending and rebounding, and they would have been a 50+ win team. Miles Bridges single-handedly destroyed this team.

That depends. Miles Bridges truly screwed over this team. BUT - let's say Charlotte accepts him back and the Hornets got Wemby? You are looking at all-star Ball, a player many considered an all-star snub in Bridges, and Wemby. That's 3 all-star level talents. That's a team that is considered a contender. (Obviously not year one of Wemby, but likely by year 3.)

The Steph/Kerr/Dray/Klay era is defined by team first, cooperation, humility, work ethic, sacrifice; that's why Bob Myers can bring in guys that fit or adopt that culture like Iggy, Livingston, Bogut, Wiggins and they can literally rewrite the scripts on their careers. Jordan as player leader was more abrasive, toxic, authoritarian, a bully alpha; great traits for a squad leader maybe, but not necessarily CEO traits for culture setting an organization. I doubt if his ex teammates even like him off the court. As Washington exec, he was lazy, golfed whenever, and didn't' even move to the city where the job was, a total failure, so there was already proof his prodigious basketball talent and work ethic as a player didn't translate into being an exec. Plus he was never known for having a "Mr. Basketball" knowledge of the game like a Bird or Draymond Green. In fact, I love Draymond's basketball IQ and if he doesn't make the Hall of Fame as a player, he'll make it as a coach, analyst, or exec for sure.

When Lonzo was drafted, the Lakers wasn't dysfunctional back then. They were on rebuild mode. And his poor shooting is purely on him. What you could have said as what set Lonzo back early in his career is Luke Walton's coaching not fitting Lonzo's style. The same went with New Orleans where he was forced to be a catch and shoot player because they wanted "Point Zion".

The Lakers and Luke Walton didn't want Lonzo to be a catch and shoot player, they deemed him their PG and the face of their future. They wanted to take the ball out of LeBron's hands, save his legs from excessive wear and tear. But LeEGO would have none of that, he got Walton fired and all the young talent traded. The Lakers bent over and grabbed their ankles for LeEGO, and look where they are now.

It was LeEGO who REVERSED the direction of the rebuild that you admittedly was the plan. . Walton was following the game plan, and the game plan would have worked if ALL the players listened to their coach. But, LeEGO listens to LeEGO, no one else. Most their draft picks we’re honestly just bad luck . No one expected Donovan to pop off same for Lavine . the nba started in 1949, so there's been about 73 championships. of those 73 titles there are four teams that account for a whopping 46 of those titles. that leaves only 26 teams to divide the other 27 championships over the last 73 years. it's not a true championship anyway because it's east against west, and that's for marketing purposes. many times the two best teams in the league are both in the west, so they must eliminate each other in the playoffs, so the victor can beat a team from the east, whose not even as good as the team they beat to get there. so that makes the nba purely entertainment, it has nothing to do with real sport outcomes. if you want honesty in basketball, go and watch high school and college ball, because once money enters the picture, everything changes.

By that, I mean the team doesn't really have anyone who is a consistent threat on the offensive or defensive side of the ball. When Melo is on the floor everyone watches to see what he will do, but when he gets them the ball they aren't knocking down the shots consistently. They need Melo plus 2-3 offensive/defensive threats and a big man who is versatile. Plumlee is playing more with a chip on his shoulder but its too little too late!

Melo has been Ballin since his return it's the hornets that suck melo has been putting them on his back and trying to carry them I also don't think MJ wants to see lamelo shine because he's a basketball savant at such a young age and doesn't want to see melo break any record he has they need to blow this team up everyone is on the table except lamelo and build around him give him some big men and forwards that can run and if they can't do that lamelo needs to leave

hey am hoops, can you talk about the warriors future with poole, wisemen, kuminga, and moody. I think its a prety itneresting topic since the warriors are losing now, even with their stars like curry, wiggins, klay, and draymond. thanks.

You must draft not only a good player but a player who want to win, that's why the Warriors didn't drafted him

i wouldn't call lamelo ball a leader. He's jus more talented then a player who makes winning plays when it matters.

Melo will gladly leave to join a winning situation. He wasn’t raised poor and was a millionaire before getting drafted.

Aren't one or two of the better defenders suspended preseason?

“New Orleans was so bad they had to move cities”. That my friend is inaccurate. They moved to OKC after Hurricane Katrina. Once things were good to go again, they moved back to New Orleans. The move had nothing to do with how they were playing. It was a tough time for that whole city.

So true, teams at the bottom of the barrel can never get better through the draft. Best situation is give up those top picks for proven players, then add pieces as you move on.
