Watching this, I sometimes come up with a way to play the turn perfectly before you do, only to realize I didn't have it perfect and you found a slightly better way
ikr. I realized i was doing the same thing. I pause the vid, pizzle it out and i'm like "okay, i could kill 2, disable a third one, taking zero damage" and then i'm stressing out hoping he plays it the same way and then i see him doing something different and i'm like "wtf are you doing?!" and then he ends up killing 3, AND blocks a spawn and still takes zero damage and i'm like. . okay then. .
So one thing I can say that I like about this game. It requires thinking about controlling the enemy, rather than just outright damaging them. Sure killing one, makes controlling the battlefield easier, but it is not just simply killing.
the thing that i like about this game is that almost every situation is winnable in some way. I just finished the game on easy with the Rusting Hulks, looking forward to trying it on the harder difficulties.
Yes. I'm going to put it all together in a playlist once it's done. You can also watch my streaming attempts: twitch.tv/soulmata - I try to stream every Tuesday and Thursday around 7:30PST.
Rift Walkers: The normal Rusting Hulks: Smoke bomb Frozen Titans: Welcome to the Himalayas Flame Behemoths: Hot af Zenith Guards: Haha lazer go pew pew Blitzkrieg: Lighting is cool Harzadous Mechs: Suicide is badass Secret Squad: I use the Veks to destroy the Veks Steel Judoka: No you're not supposed to be here
They're definitely one of the stronger squads. All 3 mechs hold their own and play their own role very well. The fact Jet's attack is a leap, disables the vek, and denies access to that tile for the rest of the match is crazy strong, too.
And not just any Rockman! Ariadne was a special quest NPC from FTL: Faster Than Light. She was the Rockman fleeing from an arranged marriage that you could run into and help out. (Or give her back to her pursuers for a reward if you are a jerk. "May your children erode into dust!") I also love that you can hear the warp jump sound effect from FTL right before the pod appears and crashes. That sound brings back so many fond memories of the adventures I had in FTL.
Guess this proves it's possible to always beat a round without losing anything. Sometimes I think it's impossible to cover every Vek attack such that you have to sacrifice something.
Kudos bro... I just lost with rusting hulks one turn from beating the run. I wanted to be fast and went for a 2 Island run just to disover I hadnt enough reactors collected to have full crowd control... I get the feeling going for 4 Island prepares you better for the final Island - what do you think
Do the tile grids for each area (the tile positions) randomize with each run or are the buildings and other elements always in the same places for a given mission on a given island? For example, is there always a long chain of mountains along the H line of the map mission shown at 55:42?
There's a set of static map files in the game, but I think the missions that can trigger for them can vary, and which ones you get can vary. I'm not sure about whether the placement of buildings or other obstacles can vary much, though. I don't know the details of maps all that much though.
Great video. I recently beat the game for the first time on Normal with the Rift Walkers, so basically I'm a filthy casual. However, I'll be starting my first run with the Rusting Hulks soon, and I'm wondering if my personal, alternate solution for this turn (13:05) is feasible... 1. Jet Mech to F3, leaping to F1, just like you did 2. Rocket Mech to F6, attacking Leaper on C6, like what you did before resetting the turn 3. Pulse Mech to E6, pushing the Hornet into the electric cloud, and killing him next turn, with no collateral damage in the explosion Clearly, your run is perfect. I'm just wondering if it's possible to have done that other move and *not* fail.
One time I got super lucky and got smoke drop and the smoke upgrade for pulse mech. I pretty much smoked the entire map and got the +1 damage for being in the smoke. It was ridiculous and there are times where enemy just stay afk because there is smoke everywhere and no place for them to attack.
0. The only 30k or 40k video that has grid damage or resist is the Rift Walkers 30k, where I took grid damage in the Hive - however, that does not affect score. I would not accept a grid resist that affected score because then it is RNG that saved you instead of skill.

30:00 wow
I know, right. What am I supposed to do in such a bad situation?
That's some fantastic luck to find a mountain with an FTL pod on a level where you're SUPPOSED to break mountains. I'm so jealous.
FWIW, pods in mountains will always be in a cracked mountain, so it will only take 1 stab to break them out.
When I played, I never could get the hang of any squad except the fire ones.
It is very impressive to see you dominate with the rusties
So one thing I can say that I like about this game.
It requires thinking about controlling the enemy, rather than just outright damaging them.
Sure killing one, makes controlling the battlefield easier, but it is not just simply killing.
And take into account how there is ALWAYS a way to optimize your play.
I've lately been making some videos on how to optimize response in the game.
the thing that i like about this game is that almost every situation is winnable in some way. I just finished the game on easy with the Rusting Hulks, looking forward to trying it on the harder difficulties.
I'm really liking these perfect playthrough videos. Do you plan on doing one for each squad?
Yes. I'm going to put it all together in a playlist once it's done. You can also watch my streaming attempts: twitch.tv/soulmata - I try to stream every Tuesday and Thursday around 7:30PST.
Rift Walkers: The normal

Ha. Very true. Blitzkrieg: Shock and Awe
To be honest, the rusting hulks are pretty O.P. because of the ability
They're definitely one of the stronger squads. All 3 mechs hold their own and play their own role very well. The fact Jet's attack is a leap, disables the vek, and denies access to that tile for the rest of the match is crazy strong, too.
Idk what this game is about but the soundtrack is 🔥
my first win was with these guys. They are so good. Watching them in the hands of an expert player is a thing of beauty.

well played. the 2 damage electric clouds were pretty godly
30:02 I bet your reaction was like "um...alright then"
Vek 4D chess.
There was FTl reference pod with a rock person. Wow
sometimes it could be mantis kazzak i think it's named
And not just any Rockman! Ariadne was a special quest NPC from FTL: Faster Than Light. She was the Rockman fleeing from an arranged marriage that you could run into and help out. (Or give her back to her pursuers for a reward if you are a jerk. "May your children erode into dust!")

It gets better... We get a Zoltan, w/ a regen shield but 1 HP, Ariadne who we see here, and Kazzak-something with a titen fist instead of repair.
The FTL pilots are all OP too.
Guess this proves it's possible to always beat a round without losing anything. Sometimes I think it's impossible to cover every Vek attack such that you have to sacrifice something.
I'd say it's virtually always possible to pull a victory out, but a 30k is quite often up to RNG.
30:02 interesting turn of veks
The Vek move between brilliance and stupidity quite rapidly.
Holy shit that play at 10.24 had me BUGGING out that was so clever!
Thank you!
Hey bro love the video. Do you plan on redoing this on unfair difficulty?
Kudos bro... I just lost with rusting hulks one turn from beating the run. I wanted to be fast and went for a 2 Island run just to disover I hadnt enough reactors collected to have full crowd control... I get the feeling going for 4 Island prepares you better for the final Island - what do you think
Yup it happens. I've lost 30k games 1 mission away from victory and my first ever loss was on the hive map.
Do the tile grids for each area (the tile positions) randomize with each run or are the buildings and other elements always in the same places for a given mission on a given island? For example, is there always a long chain of mountains along the H line of the map mission shown at 55:42?

There's usually more than one solution to a given turn. The game is pretty flexible, especially as you upgrade and add equipment.
One time I got super lucky and got smoke drop and the smoke upgrade for pulse mech. I pretty much smoked the entire map and got the +1 damage for being in the smoke. It was ridiculous and there are times where enemy just stay afk because there is smoke everywhere and no place for them to attack.
RNGesus.
I see you also left the warning about not having used a unit's turn on.
I obsessively click even when I don't need to, so this helps prevent a lot of game overs.
God this game is just so fucking neat.
It certainly is.
I think it is funny your pulse mech is set up to both suck and blow.
Why do one when you can do 2 for twice the price?
Incredible playthrough. How did you start the pulse mech with the shielded repulse without any reactor upgrades?
+1 power from pilot ability
Rocket mech is so damn strong
Seriously. It is probably the single best mech in the series.
how the hell do you think so fast
If you play the video back at 2x speed, it makes me look twice as fast.
New squads when ?
The day of or day after release!
@@soulmata Wow , aren't you a bit overconfident , Lol
@@Tonysoprano671 I mean I will be streaming them on twitch, not that I'd get 30k that fast!
@@soulmata my bad , I'm being stupid again
0 grid resets?

@@soulmata oh ok makes sense
What if a vek stand at F4 at 1:34:32 ? Would it take both storm damage and fire damage?
I'm fairly certain that smoke and fire are exclusive - smoke overrides fire I think.
anyone here listen to Strawberry Prince?? :D
Imo kinda lame if you don't always go for max stars / high threats.
When the focus is score, the focus is score. How you get there doesn't really matter, though I do avoid OP items in all of my newer runs.
pffff not even unfair difficulty
This was recorded before Unfair difficulty existed. Go record your own videos.
