I have a pair of these for more than 10 years and they are still perfect. I only had to replace the cushions because the old ones started to peel off, but other than that. the best headphones I have ever had.
I agree 100%. I find that it's best to narrow down your options as much as possible using online reviews and then test the shortlist out for yourself. It's difficult to find places stocking all the headphones you want to demo though. It took me months of looking around different stores to demo all the ones I wanted.
It very much depends on your usage. It makes a lot of sense for me because I want to listen to music/podcasts from a tablet device that I carry in a bag.
I'm surprised at the number of people who haven't been on an aeroplane - I thought it was pretty commonplace nowadays. For those people who haven't flown....passengers on planes are asked to turn off wireless devices at certain points during a flight. A bluetooth device falls within this category and therefore if you wished to continue using these headphones to listen to an iPod or other device (in Flight Mode) you would need to use the supplied cable.
Yes bluetooth is inherently laggy, I wouldn't rely on it for split-second crucial activities. I've never used the headset to answer or make calls...and I have never used skype.
I have a similar version of these with a bass boost button.. bought them over three years ago and they still rock. Also sony has an app designed for them where you can adjust the bass as well as change the sound to make it feel like you're in a concert hall, stadium, outdoor stage etc.
I avoided anything with a wire connecting two earbuds - I've gone off earbuds anyway, but for some reason I really just can't bear any wire touching the back of my neck. So I'd be happier with these - but if someone prefers buds and isn't as super sensitive to being touched by a wire as I am then I'm sure they are a good option. Headphones are a very personal thing - there is no one design that will please everyone.
I've a pair of Sony MDR-V700's and I agree with you: Beats might be utter tosh but being able to wear decent headphones out and about without someone giving you the evil eye is brilliant.
I was trying to use the like button on TH-cam, but as TH-cam has got really bad lately, regarding its bad streaming and bugs, well to cut things short, the like button did not work. So sorry about that. I really wanted to say that your videos are fantastic and I'v got to say I am a big fan. Keep up the good work. Your doing a brilliant job
I like the way you review/present different product: straight forward.Compared to other`s videos, yours are not boring at all. I would like to ask you, if possible, to make a review for a good room thermometer.
I have these but with a cord, I LOVE them. Watched this to see if I’d upgrade to the wireless when they go. Then I realize that probably won’t be for another 10 year soooo tech will probably be different. lol but I love these videos. Happy to watch always!
I own a pair of Sony MDR 7506's which retail for $80 US Dollars. Those are Studio Monitor headphones so the sound are as close to the studio as possible. I would imagine these would be similar studio monitor type headphones seeing they are under the MDR range of products. I love the fact that they are both bluetooth and regular 3.5 mm audio. It's nice to have a detachable cable. Great review, I never knew these existed, but I will admit I love Sony Headphones, great quality.
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad to tell you that I have finally been able to use the like button, so thumbs up to that. TH-cam has been playing up big time and it seems that loads of videos are almost unwatchable as they do not seem to stream smoothly and stop and start at will. It may possibly be the ISP's putting a throttle on the site as it takes up so much band width. Will we ever know ? Once again, i have to say your videos are brilliant. A big fan. Keep up the good work
@Techmoan GREAT REVIEW on @Sony#MDR-1RBT I just picked up a set myself and I never knew that I could enjoy headphones so often and do so many things with them.
Great vid as usual, whenever I want to buy any tech, I always come to your channel first to see if you've reviewed it first. Please keep up the good work, many thanks.
There would be no need to charge these at the same time as using them. If the battery is flat, use them on the 3.5mm wire, and then charge them overnight when they aren't being used.
Thanks, I've always had a lot of problems with the youtube site on tablet devices. Recently it's been very difficult to get anything done at all - especially type replies to questions (luckily I'm on my laptop at the moment).
Kudos for not falling for the brand hype. I'd be interested in how durable the mechanical construction is. A lot of even expensive headphones use cheap plastic in critical areas, resulting in a broken device after a year or two...
I got some Bluetooth headphones from deal extreme a few years back, only 20 dollars. Still going strong to this day, great sound and decent battery life. Made by a company called we com
I've got the MDR-XB950BT headphones. I've had them for about 2 - 3 years and they're great, _if_ you like a lot of bass, which I do. I'd very briefly considered the Beats until I read the reviews.
I've been wearing big headphones since the mid 90s. People always thought I was a DJ, lol. The added benefit was in the winter they worked great as ear warmers.
I know this is an old video, but I just gotta say thanks to Sony for making headphones for us melon-headed people. Techmoan said these Sonys fit his massive head, and as a fellow big-head myself, I have to say that Sony are the only brand of headphones I have found to fit me consistently. Every other brand, I feel like I'm rolling the dice, and I very often come out a loser, with headphones that are too small. Anyway, this comment got too long. If any of my fellow large-headed peeps are reading this, and you need headphones that fit, I'd say give Sony a try.
Good unboxing & review video bro. Anyway i just get a MDR-1RBTMK2 from sony store today, paired with my xperia Z1. Love sony design and sound quality is amazing~
You can use volume normalisation to do that if your software and or hardware you're using supports it for example you can enable it on a lot of Realtek integrated sound chipsets under Windows 7 or 8 or using Media Player Classic to watch videos.
Thanks for the AWESOME AWESOME review, man you really convinced me when the klipsch Image appeared because that's what Im currently rockin so it's time to go wireless and I've found them for less than 200USD :). Thanks again, subscribed. Love your accent btw.
I own a pair of the Sennheiser PX 210BT & use them with an android device. If you read reviews the ppl who've had problems with low sound nearly all seem to be using them with an Apple device. Can't say for sure if this is correlation or causation but as far as my experience they're amazing headphones & close to half the price of the Sony MDRs.
I bought the Bose QC25 headphones. Although these are not Bluetooth they do have a very nice sound, very linear and a pleasurable listening. The noise cancelling is the best I have ever heard. These replaced an older set of Sony in ear headphones which worked OK but did suffer with electrical noise pickup from the phone. In the end the just mechanically fell to bits. The build quality of the Bose is very good. I realize they were expensive at $299 but well worth the money. I now possess two Bose items, the other being a Bluetooth speaker. I think it will not be the last piece of Bose equipment I will buy.
I bought thr mdr-1a, and my god do they sound awesome. Best all round headphones i have. I also have sennheiser HD 598, momentum on-ear and a sandstrøm SPVNC12X and they all sound great. Objectively the HD 598 is the best when it comes to neutral, clear sound but they lack a little bit of bass for my liking. That´s where the mdr-1a comes in with more and well controlled base, especially for movies. Just awesome. Never knew sony made superb headphones because i never had one.
Bought these when I was 13, def wasn't an obscene amount of money though. Took these out from storage a few days ago and going to restore/clean them. They don't sound that good but it's nice to have a set you don't care a lot about for commuting.
In most cases that's true, but assume such case - your headphones just discharged, but you still want to listen to music and in 2 or 3h you need to have them charged because you are going out somewhere. Is it possible to charge them and listen to music in use of them in the same time? Additional question - how long does it take to fully charge them?
It looks great. I'm using cheap Sony Ericsson MW600 - their main disadvantage is that I'm unable to use them when they are charging. Is it possible to use yours during charging?
I have the one RNC variety but I'm back to update that I've been using these daily the mdr1 RNC since release and they are but the only pair I need. I've had to repair them three times because they're just worth keeping now I'm upgrading to myself to wireless.
I suppose that's the tax you pay for living in a beautiful place like NZ. I'd pay another £50 for my headphones if I could swap places. When I was in Gibraltar recently it was £3.50 for a litre of Vodka - but the property prices are insane. You win some, you lose some.
thx so much i didnt know how to pair it up with my pc and when i just turned it on it wouldnt work but u said to hold it so thx! u just earned a like and sub! :D
Techmoan - Please do a review of these awesome late 90s Sony headphones MDR-A34 Foldable headband style (Now discontinued) Really sound awesome with a very strong mid bass & good highs too. In my opinion probably the best in ear experience ive had. Would be great to hear your opinions on them. I have a set of MDR-A8 here if you want to borrow for comparison purposes but sadly my A-34s died & got thrown years back - always fancied another pair but not had the chance as yet. Thanks for your informative and educational videos. This morning my 15 month year old son woke me up soo early i ended up watching your videos at 5am. Was good food for the soul & mind, even at that silly hour! Best regards - Dan
Thanks man. I threw my manual away and stopped using them when I was moving house I found them and couldn't remember how to connect the bt. So thankyou good video
I'd like a pair of Bluetooth headphones so I can listen to iTunes content whilst walking around the house, that way I don't need to worry about transferring content to my MP3 player or flattening its battery when I don't want to, but I have 2 questions for you. Does the answer/end call button work with Skype? I have a BlueTooth speaker system, and I notice some lag when playing games on my iMac, sounds happen after events on the screen, I guess this is a limitation with Bluetooth, correct?
Just bought some. Was expecting to use only for bluetooth with my phone but have now paired it with my computer and laptop. Sound quality was good at the start with bluetooth but after I adjusted the EQ the sound is incredible. Bluetooth sounds is great but the cable adds depth and clarity...some people may not even notice though. Thanks for the review!
They have just released the Mk2 version of these in Japan, price for the old one has dropped so they are about 24,000 JPY which is 152UKP so not too bad
The look good for big heads. I personally use Sennheiser RS120's. The only thing that i have to do with them is replace the rechargable batteries every 6 months.
I don't mean to be rude But, the part where you model the headphones for some reason made me burst out into laughter, perhaps it was the deadpan emotion there like someone forced you to wear them. Anyway thanks for lighting up my rotten mood :)
Great review for an equally awesome product! I just purchased them today and I'm really loving the sound, very well balanced for many genres of music. One problem that I have, though, is that I cannot use my microphone in calls or with Siri on my iPhone unless I use the cable. Must I do something special? What's wrong? The mic must be OK, since it works in wired mode. Thanks.
I have a pair of these for more than 10 years and they are still perfect. I only had to replace the cushions because the old ones started to peel off, but other than that. the best headphones I have ever had.

It very much depends on your usage. It makes a lot of sense for me because I want to listen to music/podcasts from a tablet device that I carry in a bag.

Yes, as long as it has a headphone socket search for '3.5mm Bluetooth transmitter' on Amazon.
Yes bluetooth is inherently laggy, I wouldn't rely on it for split-second crucial activities. I've never used the headset to answer or make calls...and I have never used skype.

Wow, we've come a long way with wireless headphones, haven't we?
Good review, cheers mate. I scoured through a lot of crappy videos before finding this one. Love the humour.

Oxygene Pt. 4 Great Song! Also glad to see that your Reviews were just as good back then than they are now...
I've a pair of Sony MDR-V700's and I agree with you: Beats might be utter tosh but being able to wear decent headphones out and about without someone giving you the evil eye is brilliant.

I like how you put some funny comments inside.
10 years later? are they still up and running?
and you played one of my favourite tracks - Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
keep up the good work.
I like the way you review/present different product: straight forward.Compared to other`s videos, yours are not boring at all.

Ive had these for months now and they are awesome

Just picked up a pair of these at Goodwill for about 20$ Cant wait to hear the review!
What a brilliant review, peppered with sense of humour and clear, impeccable diction. Wicked!
After this review I ordered a pair of MDR 1RBT and will have them in a day or two. Thank you for the good review.
Just bought these. I know I won't regret it.
There would be no need to charge these at the same time as using them. If the battery is flat, use them on the 3.5mm wire, and then charge them overnight when they aren't being used.
awesome review. had no intention in buying, but listened to the full video just because you had my attention. great.
Nothing like watching a Techmoan video right when you come home from work.
Thanks, I've always had a lot of problems with the youtube site on tablet devices. Recently it's been very difficult to get anything done at all - especially type replies to questions (luckily I'm on my laptop at the moment).
Remember these SONY bluetooth headphones are MULTI Point capable and the Beats are not. Another benefit of the SONY.
Kudos for not falling for the brand hype.

The best headphones ever!! Happy with them
I've been thinking about getting a bluetooth headphones, leaning more towards the in ear ones.
Very good review & presentation is just great!
You remind me of the narrator in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Thanks for the review.
Great review Tech, always love your reviews.
The USB is for charging only.
Sony make great headphones. I use a pair of their professional ones for video editing and well the dynamic range is amazing, you can hear everything
Amazingly clear review as always !
Sony headsets never disappoint me.
You ingeneral disappoint me
jorge amado Why? lol
Sony headphones break too easy. Bose is better.
Another brilliant review. See you in the Manchester Xmas market!
It's OK, it was very much deliberate.
I've got the MDR-XB950BT headphones. I've had them for about 2 - 3 years and they're great, _if_ you like a lot of bass, which I do. I'd very briefly considered the Beats until I read the reviews.
I have the standard MDR-1R headphones and they are AWESOME for sound quality

I just had to subscribe. Couldn't help myself. I feel better now.
Verry good test, can like this headphones :D
nice one. I like your reviewing style. good pace and interesting to listen to. sorry the modelling didn't take off for you
You aren't cheap - you just have different priorities. I did mention that I'd spent an obscene amount of money at the start.
Great review. Have wired and Bluetooth version. Still prefer them over my sennhiser momentums. Fantastic headphones. And great review man.
Thanks for the AWESOME AWESOME review, man you really convinced me when the klipsch Image appeared because that's what Im currently rockin so it's time to go wireless and I've found them for less than 200USD :). Thanks again, subscribed. Love your accent btw.
Cool, could you share where you find them for $200? =) Much appreciated.
Did you mean the Sony MDR-10RBT instead of MDR-1RBT? I see those for $200USD.
Imperius says hello
Ouch! Just checked out their current price
Got one for €50, dope.
my headphones cost me £300 yea

Funny enough. When I was in London during the summer I actually tried the MDR 1Rs :)
im still using that and thats amazing

a very nice review, well said mate :)
Thanks man. I threw my manual away and stopped using them when I was moving house I found them and couldn't remember how to connect the bt. So thankyou good video
Do these use the headphone battery when wired? Or the device it's wired to. Cheers good brief review.
The device.. I think
what music was playing at 4:40?
Jean Michel Jarre, Oxygene Part IV
Entertaining informative & relevant review.
great review absolutely pro 5 stars
thanks for this, contemplating, seems theres ABT now, they stop selling RBT in New Zealand. Same price. I like your reviews
It's 30hrs....yes you missed it.
I bought the same headphone but the (mdr-1rbtmk2) mark 2 model. Perfect for jazz music. Well balance sounded headphone. 😊
I'd like a pair of Bluetooth headphones so I can listen to iTunes content whilst walking around the house, that way I don't need to worry about transferring content to my MP3 player or flattening its battery when I don't want to, but I have 2 questions for you. are you the narrator of the stanley parable?
It’s 2019, I was never able to afford these when they were new, just picked up a pair for $60.
Are you sure? I can't find for less than 300$🙄
They have just released the Mk2 version of these in Japan, price for the old one has dropped so they are about 24,000 JPY which is 152UKP so not too bad

Great review, thank you
Out of interest will it take audio over the USB port or is it for charging only?
I don't mean to be rude But, the part where you model the headphones for some reason made me burst out into laughter, perhaps it was the deadpan emotion there like someone forced you to wear them.
Anyway thanks for lighting up my rotten mood :)

I mentioned them in the video - they didn't fit my head.
You should try the Parrot Zik Headphones they are amazing
This video is perfect. Jean Michel Jarre and some awesome headphones. Makes me wanna buy them ;)
Great review
What kind of podcasts do you listen to?
He listens to the h3 podcast
great review cheers man
You look and sound so much younger in this old video.
That first minute cracked my up!! Lunatic!!! BWAHAHAHA
"Thanks, Beats! I'm not gonna buy any of YOUR products..."
Cracked me up!
