Just flew back home this week from Tenerife with my wife and kids, we stayed there (lived at Bajamar) for two months and went also to the top of Teide with my 4y old daughter, awesome place! Now everything seems so grey and depressing at home, but thank god for remote working, probably heading back next year. Loved the island!
I was there today. The scenery is stunning. I'm ashamed to admit that I went by coach and cable car, I take my hat off to you for doing it the right way, i.e. on foot! Great video.
Thanks! Well, at least you got to enjoy the view and the landscape :D It takes a bit more planning to do it on foot but if you like to hike it's a really nice walk up there. Cheers!
Thanks Markus for uploading your well edited and filmed video experience to Pico del Teide in Tenerife, Spain. On it, as you ascend from the lower subtropical level at sea level up to the coniferous forest then finally reaching the no-vegetation line into barden territory is such breath taking. I can now imagine what Alexander Von Humboldt felt when he first climbed it in the XVIII.
I did that 10 years ago, but got the cable car to the observation area and then walked to the peak 200m away. It was an amazing experience. You need a free permit to get to the peak and only 200 are released every day. You need to book online in advance. Well recommended.
Sad to hear that, I guess there will always be both good and bad people arriving. Let's hope the permits keep the summit in good shape for future generations to see :) Enjoy your beautiful island!
@@MarkusBolander thanks and come when you want, it's our island and our world so we must care it. I love all the people and i like they come but with love.

We were there last July 2018, my birthday treat. Rented a car and almost drove near to the top but not quite , hopefully will explore again. Such a beautiful island, beaches, sunshine, eatries, shops and very lovely relaxing time we had. Beautiful memories about the sunshine that is worth every penny.
I have been there about a month ago. It took us about 4 hours to reach refugee and another 1,5 hour to go to the summit following morning. In the dark, we were using head torches. I was most awesome thing I have ever done. But return journey took us about 3 hours. Yes, cable car wasn't working that day :)
Awesome video! I plan to try and ascend and descend in a day by foot soon, with a degree of relentless pace I might add. Did you feel the effects of the altitude at all and are the trails busy enough that if I collapsed for some reason, somebody would come across me reasonably quickly?
Thanks! Should be manageable if you are in okay shape :) regarding altitude sickness it's really individual. I've been lucky to not feel much of it at all but I've seen others getting headache and so on at 2000 m already. Just pay attention and turn back down if you start feeling the symptoms. I'm guessing that these days the trails are not busy at all with less amount of tourists. Stay safe and have a nice hike!
Top video, nice bit of info too, I had no idea you had to apply for a permit in advance. Timelapse is my thing, and I love the clouds towards the end of your film, do you have any idea if you can go up there overnight?
Thank you for the nice comment! I've seen some ads for sunrise hikes in case you want to do it with a guide. There is also a place where you can stay a night before heading to the peak ( www.volcanoteide.com/en/altaviste_refuge ). Not sure if it's free of charge but I couldn't find any pricing. Might be an alternative! Good luck! :D
Without the wind it was actually not cold at all and the terrain was not that rough to be honest. But for other weather conditions I agree that warmer clothes are needed. Cheers!

Hello! Nice video, we are planning to reach the peak of Teide by hiking and go down by cable car similarly as you. Can I ask you where did you leave your car? Is there some official parking space at Base del Teide?
Thanks! Yes, you can park at the base of where the cable car starts. We did that and then walked along the road to start the hike from Sandero de Montaña Blanca and followed the path up on the east side of the volcano.
@@ggraf9327 I've always lived in Tenerife, but I'm unable to go to the top. Just by going to the national park I get terrible motion sickness not matter how many times in my life i have gone there
Nice video! I'm going to Tenerife over new years and I'm wondering if there is a lot of snow on top of the Teide in the beginning on January? As I'm only travelling with hand luggage, I can't take appropriate equipment for snow but I'd really love to hike up there! Maybe anyone can help?
When I last went up there, it was 80 degrees at sea level and me and my two sons had a snow ball fight at the hotel / pub place before the final ascent, which we couldn't do because of the 4 inches of snow. The coach had to turn around and we never got to the top that year and that was in March, so January could be worse.
Takes you yo about 50 meters below but there is a walkway to the very top but you have to get written permission from the local town hall. View is superb
We are going there in two weeks. What was the temperature on the top, i have heard that it's not unusual to be like 4 degrees celsius in midday (february) ?
MarkusBolander I will get it for you but on the way up there are some great winery’s and the people were really polite and amazing . My wife and I were on the last leg of our honeymoon finishing on the island after visiting the mainland. One winery we went to the owner mr.Paco was great he gave us a free bottle of rare wine that he makes as a gift for our marriage . He even gave us free tasting of all his wines it was a great experience.
