Daniel Kaluuya is great, I've loved him since I watched his black mirror episode on Channel 4 all those years ago. Really glad he's getting all these meaty roles. He's really deserves it 😊
He got that OSCAR Man!!! still humble, & gona keep it going, for the Best Actor, tha Culture, & should if think about it, be in line for James Bond, or instead any number or quality ORIGINAL Content!
"Let me ask y’all something. If this building caught fire right now, what would y’all worry about? Water and escape. If somebody were to ask you, What’s your culture during this fire, brother? Water, that’s my culture. Well, how about your politics? Water and escape. Well, guess what, America is on fire right now. And until that fire is extinguished, don’t nothing else mean a goddamn thing." -- Fred Hampton
Crap, didn't know Kaluuya is a british actor... i just watched the movie today, and still overwhelmed.. what a great film by amazing director and actors. Mind-blowing..
Stephen: I watched the film last night... Couldn't get a wink of sleep afterwards... I couldn't stop thinking about it... Daniel: Yeah, racism will do that to you.
It was weird to hear Steven say “warts and all” ..what warts? Fred Hampton refused to save himself at the cost of others. That’s takes exceptional character that is rare as hell in humanity. The only warts there were were in the black Judas/informant character who betrayed Fred Hampton out of corruption but eventually committing suicide out of guilt. That’s a character with warts. If he’s referring to the guns I guess?.. Hell, I wouldn’t say the assassin of a nazi or a serial rapist has a “wart” for specifically advocating violence against nazis or serial rapists.
I appreciate that this didn't seem to be one of those interviews where everything is worked out before it starts. Stephen seemed to genuinely consider what he was asking and Daniel Kaluuya gave very thoughtful and honest answers. I thought his saying that moments change and he has to be truthful to what he feels was a interesting way to put it.
Wow Daniel you've come a long way since Posh Kenneth. So proud to have been a fan of yours since the Skin days. You get more good looking everytime we see you
TH-cam commenters, I would like to hear what you think. I'm not sure if Chadwick Boseman was a contender for this role before he passed, but this role definitely reminds me of him and the kinds of roles he chose. I wonder if Daniel feels like he is filling a Chadwick-sized hole in the world, and I wonder if that is a good feeling or a bad feeling? I know there's a lot more behind these two men, it just came to mind. I would like to hear others' thoughts/ideas/perspectives on this. Please stay kind in your responses, thank you 💜
@Blue Bishop black liberation is a universal issue. They chose the most talented man for the job, and judging by this interview, an incredibly respectful man of Chairman Fred’s legacy.
I get what you are saying since Chadwick acted in a couple of biopics, but they both have contributed heavily to film in their own ways and have two similar but distinct paths. Let us not forget Daniel was in one of the highest-grossing and popular horror films and he even got himself an Oscar nomination for his incredible performance. I get where you are coming from but while Daniel and Chadwick were both young, talented black actors they already had established themselves individually so I don't see Daniel attempting fill that hole.
i'm not convinced it was a matter of being uncomfortable, but a matter of delicacy and deep respect... finding the right words for such a tender topic.
Man, we need more movies like "Judas". Movies that show that the protagonists aren't perfect, that they were real human beings with their own failings and successes. Too many times we're shown films that exaltate historical figures, sometimes to the point of mythologizing them - effectively creating new gods and myths. The same can be said for fictional films as well: there just needs to be more faults in our heroes so that we can relate to them, learn from them, and become better people because of what we see in them and how they themselves strive to do the same even when they make horrible mistakes. The beautiful thing about humanity isn't that we're inherently good, it's that we want to strive to be. And that fight for goodness for goodness sake has the potential to save lives and truly express compassion to each others' neighbors.
I know Zoom backgrounds are usually staged for interviews, but I like checking out the books interviewees have on their shelves :) Does anybody know what the book is with the orange circle??

Imagine if the film actualy had the balls to openly show that Fred was a straight up revolutionary communist (maoist) who informed his activism and praxis through that ideology and theory and it was an inseperable part of him and the Black Panther Party. You couldnt even become a Black Panther without reading your Lenin and Mao. And i dont say that as a negative, we shouldnt whitewash Fred's beliefs and ideology
