- Carp Fishing a 700-acre lake in the UK for UNKNOWN FISH! + How To Prepare Particles | Mainline Baits
In this carp fishing 2023 video we follow Mainline angler, John Kneebone as he takes up the rare opportunity to fish Roadford Lake, a huge 700-acre water in Devon. As John explains, South West Lakes Trust the organisation controlling the lake is conducting a fish removal project allowing anglers to fish the venue containing an unknown stock of carp for a limited period.
Without any knowledge of what may be on the end, should any action arise the excitement and anticipation of fishing this extraordinary lake is understandably high. Although there are some special rules to follow; with pellets and non hookbait boilies not allowed. So, John turns to a particle mix approach - explaining how to prepare his chosen particles such as Hemp, Maples, Maize and Tiger Nuts safely.
So, sit back and enjoy this interesting and informative carp fishing film!

Mega!!
We need more on that pit!
Beats the same old shite down linear or farlows!
It was certainly something a little different!
Great video. Don't know why these lakes are not utilised more in the UK for carp fishing. People pay a fortune every year to go France to fish these huge waters with unknown. We have an industry right on our doorstep not being used 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Very true.
@MainlineBaitsCarpFishingTV why is the shelf life cell more expensive than frozen baits pml 60 quid for 5kg bit nash scopex squid is 35 for 5kg
@@aarondavies8486go to go outdoors mate got 5kg Manila £34
Unknown water is the typical and most popular water in my country. You never know what's out there. Catching even a 10 lb carp usually requires hard work. Well done John.
I have dived in a slate mine inside a mountain in North Wales 🏴 it’s one of the clearest body of water I have ever dived in. One of the problems of cave diving is getting all of your heat including wet suit, fins, weight belt, tanks and other ancillaries up the mountain before you can dive. We used to change behind some rocks before walking down a tunnel one mile to the lake. It’s quite a dangerous place to go but it’s strange to see small school children going down the tunnel with a teacher who is the only one with a torch it was so different in my younger days before health and safety. But anyway it was brilliant diving very enjoyable and worth all the stuff having to be taken up the mountain the day before and stashing it behind some rocks. I must try and find the slides from the mine, my friend who was a bit of a mad professor built his own flash gun to get enough light to get decent results his flash gun was encased in 3 5ltr tubs so it was safe from water ingress. It was happy days many years ago now I’m in a wheelchair. I was out fishing the other day at Toddington Fisheries and I had a fall in the car park before I even got a line wet anyway I had a fall and I knew I had done something bad so I said to the others please don’t move me they just put me in the recovery position this was about 06:30 am I was in Luton & Dunstable Hospital by 08:30am they told me after X-Rays that I had broken the ball joint off of my femur they said I needed an operation that day. So at 13:30 they took me to the theatre gave me an epidural so I was awake all the way through the operation but I fell asleep during the operation I was woken just before 17:00 with the surgeon telling me it was all done. Next I awoke on a ward next day they got me out of bed to go for a walk with a walking frame the same the following day just walking further then crutches 🩼 the following day then they said if I could walk up and downstairs I could go home which I did. Now I am getting around the house without and walking aids I can walk a short distance with a stick but if a lot of walking is called for I use my electric wheelchair, but next Tuesday I’m going back to the fishery for the first time since the accident I’m not taking all my fishing gear I.e. 6 rods 2 big bags of gear I’m just going to take my new pole and some floating bait to catch some 6-10lb carp for the day just for a bit of fun.
Me and a friend fished the lake in this last period of availability and to say conditions were slightly less idyllic would be putting it lightly! 45mph crosswind and driving rain for nearly 48hrs straight, it was pretty mad fish a lake with 4ft of swell and got wiped out twice by the floating fish retainers dragging their tethers and shifting about 200yards down the lake. Had 1 small one before the wind got up and then a few slightly better ones on the final morning when the weather broke, considering how much bait was washing up on the shore in the bay to our left it was anyone's guess where the bait was going after it left the spomb. Solid bags ended up being the only real option. Good fun though, will give it another go next year
Glad your using the Maples, an all time classic.
Yep, fantastic particle!
Good to see old school reels being used. Great video 👍
Now this looks interesting. Good stuff
Yep that’s some mega drone footage 👍 Really professional film, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Walked around this lake so many times on walks dreaming of fishing it would be amazing
well Carl & Alex have fish this water before with great result, however it is still a challenge
Happens to the best of us , but exciting none the less , hopefully a regular thing 👌🏻
Why always the better ones!
Looks a mega lake but crazy how much bait you put in I bet that’s about £150 worth of bait in a couple of days 😂
Yep, mega lake, but particles are a lot cheaper than that when you prepare them yourself.
Get a 20kg bag of pigeon conditioner for £20. Cook it at home. The tigers and hemp are a bit more expensive but still cheaper than boilies. Plus you can tailor them to what you want. Chilli, garlic, turmeric, sugar, a cheap vodka, whatever!
No average angler can afford to put the amount of bait these sponsored guys can..
@@carlwest8103 you can put a lot of particles out for next to nowt. There's no need for all those bags of Mainline this n that. Remember the video is to make u buy Branded stuff. Carp don't watch adverts. A 25 kg sack of hemp, maples, peanuts etc ain't too much cash and remember when soaked and boiled it's like 50 kg of bait.
And success don't neccessarily come to those who merely pile tonnes of bait in anyway.
Just get at em.
Christ, people are negative. Cooked from home, that's no more than fifty quids worth of bait if you buy from the right places (ie not carp shops)
Great to see you added some sauger to your tiger nuts but do you ever add a smart liquid (or something) to the water that you use to soak or (maze or hemp etc) I think that they take on more.
Yes I do! One of my favs is adding the Pineapple Particle & Pellet Syrup after prep and cooking of Tigers or Maize. More so in the case of Tigers it also really prolongs the condition.
spotted some great flying in that vid
Thanks - something a little different.
That fpv drone shot!!!
Glad you enjoyed that!
This is typical fishing in the US, although this would be a smaller sized lake.
Interesting video but I have a couple of questions, why did you feel the need to use boilies on all three rods when you are only allowed to feed particle, wouldn't it have made sense to have a little variation a double tiger on one rod and maples with maize on another and a 10 or 12mm high attract boilie on the third, as you are unable to educate the carp into feed on boilies I would have hedged my bets a bit. What about maggots, casters, and worms were these allowed.
Is this the one Carl and Alex fished? If so there’s a few monsters in there
Why is crude ash used in your boilies when you like to make out they are the best
All that water, guaranteed if I set up I would still get some helmet set up next to me.
I like smaller Carp. They grow into bigger Carp.
Nice bit of filming mate
Thanks!
If you want to know how to tie this rig😂I’ll give it a miss😂😂😂
Should be stocking that amazing place got French resi written all over it…. Could be a new uk Mecca….
It'd be immense!
Ovo je super jezero
Yep very good water!
Kaç saat sonra alabildin sazani
700 acres and you cant even fish a quarter of it and they want to catch all the fish to move them, sounds like perfect common sense to me that does 😂
Qaulity 👊🎣
Thanks - glad you enjoyed this!
Mammoth challenge that 😮
Huge!
Quite a lot of nonsense regarding to those particles. Fish farms use raw maize, wheat and so on.

So many of the SWLT lakes hood hood fish. Tamar is another behemoth of a lake. Beautiful but very tedious angling. Crafthole was an old favourite but then got ruined by becoming a syndicate lake. Amazing old old carp there. Sadly ruined by idiots who think they own the water. SWLT have beautiful lakes 100% better than the full at all times Linear complex lakes. Just boring
Lots of lovely waters!
700 acres full of 7 million carp 😂
There must be a mega amount of carp - great for bites, tricky getting to the better fish.
They need to legalise f8shing on this lake
Stupid bait rules for such a big lake
It's a very well regarded and well fished trout lake. The rules are there to prevent any impact on the trout population, which is what makes the fishery money
@@kevinwinter7050 ah that's fair enough mate I jumped in too soon lol .there a lake near me used to have 40+lb carp in and huge bream unfortunately they have gone on dinner plates the place was never managed
