      If you ever find a peavey 260 standard pay the person the 40 bucks they are asking for it and experience what a real amplifier can do. I have a horrible problem and collect/have a massive collection of peavey amplifiers and out of every thing I own my 79 musician or my 76 260 standard are my absolute favorites there is something about them that makes it seem like it just a super compressed fuzz/gated distortion that fucking magical

    what?? They're all amazing. The concert lead has a roundness in the mids that is really pleasing so I'll choose that if I have to. But seriously I'll take any one of these and be happy.

    Beta Lead, hands down. It’s on my bucket list of impossible amps to both find and afford. Though I hear that diming the master can open some kind of dimensional gateway. They have a reputation of being ungodly loud. Like a Model T, but with a supernova in the power section. Love the disto sound of a Beta Lead. Rumor has it Adam Jones used one with his VH4s and SuperBass in the studio, but it proved too fragile for relentless touring. I think he copped the vibe from King Buzzo, who had a custom Beta clone made for that exact reason.

    • @Janisdooms
      @Janisdooms 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can find the combos for somewhat cheap rarely haha, they also work as a head, they have a line out jack so you can use them as a head, I just bought my Sunn Beta Lead 212 combo for $600 total, insanely fucking loud amps haha, 100 watts at 4 ohms but with the drive maxed with the master volume at 1, this think is louder than my 20 watt practice amp at 10

    I’ve got a beta and two concert leads, I much prefer the openness and harmonic grittiness of the concert leads. The beta’s feel more compressed not only in dynamics but the eq also feels like everything is squished together. On the concert I hit the gain switch and never get it above 9 o’clock but usually have it just barely on and it crunches like power tubes would which I love.

  • @thomasjohnson7712

    The Ampeg sounds the best, followed by the Sunn Beta, then the Sunn Concert....the Beta has a beefier, tastiness than the Concert.
    This model Peavey comes in last because it sounds too harsh until the fuzz really hits and thickens.

    This is a tough one, again. I like the gain of the VH140C, but the Concert Lead wins out because it has such an awesome texture, despite having less gain on its own. Final answer: Concert Lead (just needs an OD or boost)

    Those goddamned ampeg knobs are the bane of my existence! AMPEG for the win, but im biased. Like the custom headshell too. I have my 140 paired with a Mauler 4x12 with 2 v30s and 2 cream backs, and I added a stereo jack plate and and it's fucking SOLID. Ive owned a beta lead but I just couldn't get a tighter chug from it. 140 is super versatile and the stereo chorus is amazing too. OH OH, and if you want brutal death metal, dial that 140 in and shred your balls off... The other ones can't do that without a pedal. I plug straight in to mine. No pedals needed, unless you just want one for shits and gigs....

  • @CryptToneMusic
    @CryptToneMusic 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I always wondered how one of the solid state Ampeg SVT amps would do with guitar, in theory tons of wattage and clean headroom would be good for pedals, would probably have to keep the bass low to not destroy speakers maybe depending on the cab. And those little 200 watt mini ones have been tempting me for a while i just haven't pulled the trigger haha.

  • @Atlas-RH
    @Atlas-RH 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    From best to worst, I'm gonna say: Concert Lead, Ampeg, Beta Lead, Peavey
    The Concert was super punchy with lots of mids, and the distortion was slightly fuzzy but had lots of note clarity. The Peavey was overall pretty okay, but it lacked mids and low-end, and the distortion was way to overblown and farty.

    ALL great fuzz pedals are served better by a clean amp. For the record, my fave amps for fuzz are both solid state, including my go-to LOUD AF full volume on-stage doom machine: Hiwatts 150 watt 1x12. It’s 3 channels, but I only use the first one (the cleanest Channel). It’s perfect for my Big Muff collection and my bizarre Death by Audio noise goblins.
    But the best thing about solid state guitar amps & fuzz pedals? Plug an analogue synth into a BM into a solid state clean guitar amp (EH “Dirt Road” is perfect for the bedroom at only 40 watts). Tube amps just don’t cut it. They “fart out” too easily when you use multiple fuzz pedals. You need a real clean amp, a base to build your fuzz upon (I like any 250 type OD pedal) then the T Bone to your fuzz, an actual fuzz pedal. Like the ZVex Fuzz Factory. That’s a great start in finding over the top fuzz.
    I would love to hear this thru one of Hiwatts incredible new solid state guitar amps. They’re all phenomenal.
