Hey angus, question. Is there a thrust washer or any sort of thin washer that goes between the roller bearing and the crank? I can’t find any that were on mine but the spares manual looks like it shows two separate washers between the crank and crank roller bearing. Can you verify this? The video doesn’t looking like you have any washers on your crank. Thanks in a advance!
Hi Derek. The A65 crank is shimmed for end float at the drive side bearing of the crank hence you can see a shim and the shim cup. This is not the case on the A70 as the end float shimming is done on the outside of RH crankcase behind the timing pinion. This is correctly shown on the A70 supplement parts page that was separate to the '71 parts book and included in the '72 parts book. Hope that clarifies.
I m a newcomer to these videos, so a bit 'after the fact'! I've got a copy of the parts book and having had a look at crank/ crankcase diagram I an see the advantages of the shimming on the timing side of the crank, not only in the ease of adjustment of end float, but also I the fact that the shim would also help in keeping the oil pressure up as it restricts the amount of oil able to escape into the timing cover. Maybe this could be retro fitted to A65's? and probably lot cheaper than a SRM crankshaft mod😮
Hello Angus a really great series thank you totally brilliant. I’m rebuilding a triumph T120 and I was simply wondering what jointing sealer you use..? There seems to be so many on the market and having never rebuilt an engine before I feel I need to try and get a good seal to avoid oil slicks in the future....... many thanks 👍🏼
Hello Jan - thanks for the kind comment and interest. The gasket sealer I use is Granville Instant Clear Gasket RTV Silicon. I don't know if it's the best, but it seems to work well and is available locally as well as on the net. I also prefer a clear sealer so it doesn't show on the joint/gasket. An example on eBay is here for your information: www.ebay.co.uk/p/1546980800?iid=162831856941&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=162831856941&targetid=878020360040&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9046165&poi=&campaignid=9461445814&mkgroupid=97644908122&rlsatarget=pla-878020360040&abcId=1139576&merchantid=119040122&gclid=CjwKCAjwguzzBRBiEiwAgU0FT0FhTgFm3ljQWFMqNGFfHoGSJiNJYkNQN6hwzuglDvTtGbzpp3ZI6BoCi0AQAvD_BwE Apologies for the long link! Thanks again.
Thanks for the interest and comment David. End float measurement and adjustment on the A70 is done after the cases are together as the crank was modified so that it could be undertaken by shimming within the inner timing case.
Best video I've seen, I really needed the camshaft installation details. Thanks!
Thank you for the interest and kind comment. I’m only an amateur self taught mechanic/fitter but glad it was of use.

@@BSAPowerSet exactly what I needed to know. I’ll have to find a shim and shim cup. Thanks angus!

Strange that there are no dowel pins between the case halves!
Dowel pins aren't required Richard as the mating surface has a flange around most of the circumference to ensure an accurate fit.

What about measuring end float on the crank?
Thanks for the interest and comment David. End float measurement and adjustment on the A70 is done after the cases are together as the crank was modified so that it could be undertaken by shimming within the inner timing case.
What side does the Conrod go on the one with the hole by the big does it go on the drive side all the timing side
Hi Paul thanks for interest. It goes on the drive side (LH rod).
