muay thai teaches you how to defend and take punches to the face and obviously how to knock someone out, something fundamental that kyokushin doesn't teach, and the clinch it's really powerful.

Spin kicks and body punches only are pretty unrealistic even more shotokan is worse with is light/no contact and having to pull away to not hurt your opponent is a bad habit to have and you'll most likely to get fucked. punches, shin kicks, teeps, elbows, knees and clinch alot more useful in the streets or in a fight in general. Karate is not.

I wouldn't put all styles of karate in the same basket. I'm sure karate styles like kyokushin or kudo would do much better here because they spar full contact.

Karate is the most complete art, it offers the same punches as boxing, yes there are hooks and curved punches in karate, they also have grappling and by the way it is very effective, good kicks, good saves and good immobilizations. The problem is that karatekas insist on wanting to fight fencing using their hands, you rarely find a karateka who knows how to throw good punches besides straight punches, Or a karateka who knows how to take down his opponent in a good way, which is ironic since karate came from a grappling fight besides having Japanese Ju jutsu in its origins.

The one thing I noticed why Karate keep losing to Muay Thai is cuz A lot of Karate fighters keep clinching when fighting, they scared of getting hit in the face. I know some Karate artist manage to win against Muay Thai artist cuz they use an amazing amount of defense. I'm aware of this cuz my best friend is and amazing Karate artist and he always kicks my butt even if I'm twice his size and may I mind...I can bend a lot of hard things like wooden planks and straight metals. Nor is a karateka equally incapable of defending his own head (although I believe this derives from the habit of full contact karatekas of not hitting the face with their hands). He was literally unable to do anything but a few slams.

Only Machida Karate can match Muay Thai when it comes to real fighting. Karate was only made for self defense and not for actual fighting tournament, that's why the Machida brothers modified it to be used in MMA.

I feel like Karate is an incomplete Martial Art. It fails when going against Muay Thai, Boxing, and Kickboxing.
