There are very few channels and anchors left in the profession of Journalism who are objective, non-partisan & give a patient hearing to both sides of an argument. This is how a journalist ought to conduct himself/herself instead of turning into a judge, jury & executioner. The kind of soft questioning that was done of Rhea by one of the most prominent anchors on a popular channel questions the credibility of the media. Then there are certain channels who have already made up their mind about who is guilty & who is not. Sushant's death has been made a circus for the benefit of the ratings of these news channels..!!! This sordid saga doesn't seem to end..!! Media's job is not to conduct a trial & paint one side or the other as a victim or a perpetrator. The courts in this country are competent enough to pass a judgement in such matters. Media's job is to report arguments from both sides fairly & squarely. By the way, in this discussion apart from Ms. Tavleen Singh & Mr. Cherian the other two of you have lost your credibility long time back. Remember the Radia tapes!!! Ms. Dutt was busy hobnobbing with a lobbyist and influencing government formation. Once Mr. Vinod Mehta made those conversations public, he fell out with NDTV and never got invited to the chat shows conducted by the channel, as long as he lived..!!! Mr. Sanghvi was the one who wrote an article in the same context that cost his job from Hindustan Times. Hence, it's quite rich coming from you two lamenting the degradation of the media. Ma'am there is only one real journalist that is Ravish Kumar. He doesn't cover glitz or glamour. He shows real people and real problems. It doesn't matter what his ideology is. The essence of journalism is that you don't get subjective. You don't let personal bias control the content of news. You owe it to the people to give them news based on fact. For entertainment, people can switch to other channels. But news shouldn't be tainted. And Ravish Kumar gives you real news.
24 hrs non stop coverage on a single issue is sickening. People won't complain until it hits them at the ground level when real issues need to be covered
Not defending media here but let's reverse the genders and roles here to have an unbiased point of view. If Sush was the less popular boyfriend of a Bollywood star Reha and he was living with her while she was undergoing treatment for a serious mental illness but didn't care to update her family and kept buying more and more weed for her despite knowing she is on medication and is in fragile state of mind. Not only that he kept spending her money on himself as well as his brother, keep partying while she is unconscious in her room? Then one day he leaves, blocks her number and doesn't respond when she tries to contact him. Wouldn't you hold the boy responsible? Wouldn't the same media shamelessly calling Reha innocent attack him? Also she has been accused of manipulation and blackmailing which is still being investigated. This woman has done quite questionable things like leaking his private videos and chats as well. If she is a victim of media trial then she and her lawyer have also taken part in it. Sadly the only victim here is Sushant who lost his life and is still being shamed by her PR.

Last few years news channels are giving ekta's saas bhahu sagas run for their money.😬.. Your discussion made so many valid points. I as optimistic would like to believe that this toxic nature of TV and digital era too shall pass and see the light of the day😊. Please keep up the good work.
Your own channel was not too ethical the way it broke the law and leaked Sushant's therapy details by interviewing his alleged therapist who violated client confidentiality by speaking to media. The details your channel discussed could only be discussed in court of law. Not media. You also did no better. I hope you remember how you were called out on Twitter. Your journalism is not ethical either.
Both Barkha dutt and vir singhvi were involved in Nira radia Tapes and now they are discussing ethics in journalism ....its is like Arnab Goswami and sudher Choud. discussing about fake news menace....All we need is good journalist with integrity.
When Vir speaks, all listen very attentively. Electronic Media is now in the same phase where Pvt. Engineering colleges have been few years ago. The owner of the Engineering/Mgmt colleges were semi educated business men and were interested only in profit. For them education was a product and teachers the salesman.
Do and can digital or TV journalists (usual suspects... the good ones 😊) also collaborate often enough to put up diverse quality content around the clock? Consolidate platforms? Does it even need to be round the clock on TV?
Now that's what I call a discussion.. This was so refreshing. I just don't watch any of the news channel nowadays....They don't broadcast news...all the show is crap infotainment
Everyone is aware of the economy but can just awareness help in altering the economy? Unemployment is a big issue we all know but can just knowing about the issue solve the issue?

Governance is dead, the Judiciary is dead, the Media is dead, Civil Society is dead, the Economy is dead, people are dying from a virus, we are almost at war, we are fully polarized, religiously we are divided. Clearly acche din aye hai!

This was just a circle jerk, which incidentally TV media also is (only louder). What do you mean by "journalism as we knew it"? Like NDTV? Regarding your question about what our progressive equivalents that would stand up to "hatred" are, did you ever consider that "journalism as we knew it" was the crap that we decided to stop using? Yes, what we have as TV news today is not ideal, but what we had was crap too - calm, sophisticated crap. In the future, sensible people won't watch TV; they'll just stick to books and TH-cam.

I felt at-least there’s someone who feels like me.. I hope this Indian media circus ends and we go to real journalism, talking about real issues.
Rhea should be kept in jail. According to my sources cbi will take over and keep her under custody for interrogation.
Dumbing down of news. There was an article in outlook in 2004 and one in 2013
Keep up the good work barkha
Public should stop watching Republic TV, News X and similar media channels.

Everyone is aware of the economy but can just awareness help in altering the economy?
Unemployment is a big issue we all know but can just knowing about the issue solve the issue?
No ma'am..but we can join ppl like u anyday u should open a channel
Waiting to see bhakts living on air, without food...
TRP race to the bottom and every anchor trying to outshout the other. Thankfully IPL is around the corner and hopefully thst gives news channels some time to reflect, catch their breath and sober down.
People looking for validity in newspapers
Governance is dead, the Judiciary is dead, the Media is dead, Civil Society is dead, the Economy is dead, people are dying from a virus, we are almost at war, we are fully polarized, religiously we are divided. Clearly acche din aye hai!
Barkha, what about the kind of journalism you, Veer and others indulged in. You want audience to forget all those escapades and accept your pious arguments. Hard luck madam. Don't be so optimistic
You can't break but we can kill just because one is celebrity other is a poor man !!! For me both are wrong her Building can be constructed, but a man got killed can't be back.Miss Singh.
You can’t compare Shabana ji with Kangana. Gross miscomparison.
