    Michael- excellent control of values and great brushwork. It’s very instructive to see your brushwork. I often overwork paintings. And observing what you do by actually doing less is very helpful. I am also taking a page from your book and doing quick sketches of under an hour, most of them at 30 minutes. It helps the entire process to get a brush and just paint with abandon.
    I also want to comment on my takeaway from Pescadero with Maura and Brian. It was so very helpful to see you explain to Maura your thought processes as it related to her treatment of your painting. The back and forth between both of you revealed lots about Maura a lot about you and a lot about the process. More of those ad hoc lessons would be extremely helpful. Great video. Really admire your work and glad I am able to watch you do your thing. Thanks.

      Thanks William! Learning to simplify and not overwork is a challenge for all of us. Focusing on big shapes has helped me greatly. Glad you enjoyed the video in which I work on a painting with Maura. More to come!

    I think you really captured the strong surf crashing against the rocks and foaming onto the beach - very atmospheric. Thanks for the glimpses of the ocean waves, too. The ocean's colors are so lovely. Really like this painting, as I do all your paintings. I'm a beginning watercolorist and don't understand a lot of your supplies, but your artistic eye and knowledge transfers to any visual medium. Thank you for bringing your art and the beautiful ocean to me this morning :-)

    Interesting painting this week focusing on the rock offshore. Particularly liked the strength of the waves coming into the shore. I agree, you need to get the composition right. Have you thought about a painting of the waves only crashing on the beach? I think your techniques could create a great painting. The limited palette is good as your colours harmonise with each other. Great painting - going back to small? I got the feeling you were trying to get bigger and bigger with the panels. Going by the weather conditions, you may have blown into the sea. I thought at one point in the video you were stepping back so far you were going over the cliff!

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Paul! Maybe I'll go back and experiment with the waves. I usually go to Pescadero when I want to paint waves. As for painting smaller, I'm using up the rest of my 11x14"s. I'm thinking that i'd like to do more 18x24" plein air this year. That seems like a good size.
