    Again none of what I said should offend any of my fam who are white. It’s just the truth about U.S history. Everything I said is documented and can be researched. At the end of the day no matter the environment or disadvantages in life, we must all rise above the mentality that was given to us and strive for better while also motivate each other to see beyond. I love The Wire. I just watched 2x1 cuz I don’t want to get too far ahead of patreon or YT when it comes to this show and I thought it was great but after we finish this show I gotta watch something positive or funny lol cuz watching this kinda stuff back to back can get draining. Much love to all my fam ✊🏾

      Pleaseeeeee don't give up on Season 2 if you end up finding it "different" compared to Season 1 🙏🙏🙏 It's very relevant and is arguably even more important than Season 1. Also I definitely feel you on the "take a break" motion 😂😂😂😂 The Wire can be EXTREMELY cynical at times, but it's the truth of what goes on in our cities past, present and the foreseeable future. Chile when you get to Season 4...Imma leave it at that 😂😂😂

    The Wire is my all-time favorite show, and while I've watched it about 5 times now, I'm really appreciating your perspective. You're definitely a step ahead of where I was when I watched it for the first time, in terms of a lot of your takes (won't be specific - don't want to spoil anything). Loved your insight into Bubble's character and you're recognizing his humanity in spite of his faults. One of the things I love about the show is that virtually no one is painted with just one color - characters you love still fuck up, and ones who you hate will occasionally surprise you. These actors are amazing, and you're right about the writing too - there are no scenes that don't matter, something I didn't completely fully realize until repeated viewings. Found you because of these in-depth reactions. Now I'm a subscriber, and starting to get into your Mr. Robot reactions too!

      I love listening out for accent slips in shows and movies, I think we heard a bit of Dominic's accent slip when McNulty was arguing with Daniels though I know it'll slip out a lot more in this one scene in either episode 12 or 13. Makes that bit in season 2 even funnier

    First off I loved the beginning of the video. Spoke nothing, but facts 👏👏👏 And this is just the beginning of the corruption that goes on in Baltimore. Promise you, you haven't seen anything yet. And the characters in The Wire are brilliantly written, even the ones that are very despicable are very well written and portrayed. There's a character you're going to see more of in the future who is without question the biggest piece of shit out of the entire cast. But, I guarantee you'll end up liking him because of the performance and catch phrase. And yeah...this episode is when I started hating Burrell. Very easily a top hated character on the show.

    That's a perfect point about Tony Soprano. People generally taking the wrong message from the Sopranos and thinking of Tony as some kind of "badass" was never intention of David Chase, the creator of that show, and as it went on his writing got more cynical because of the general audience reaction at the time.

    Omar's using the cops to some extent, as much as he's working with them, so its not like he's just snitching. You can see he's using them to help his goals of revenge against the barksdale organization, but he has no problem pulling out his sawed off and going to work himself as well, after barksdale's muscle gets killed or arrested. Also he said earlier in the season that he didn't think snitching was how the game was supposed to be played, but he also doesn't think how the barksdales tortured brandon was how the game was meant either. he feels really raw about that, and that's why he's not playing by the rules either at this point. you say there's no rules when someone feels wronged, but the same goes both ways. omar thinks he was wronged, and everything until brandon being tortured was within the rules. now he feels wronged, so, like you say, he isn't playing by the rules.

My mother who is an immigrant from Palestine would yell and punish me growing up because I always hanged out with black kids. She always tried to brainwash me and my sister. There are a whole bunch of decent, law abiding people in the hood who want no part of the bullshit, never asked to catch a stray. They rolled that stripper up and threw her in the trash. The female security guard who didnt snitch, they later killed. And lastly, snitching is part of the game, I dont condone it but it is most definitely part of the game.

  • @richieclean
    @richieclean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    When the Game is rigged, you can make your own rules. The way I see it, Omar is playing the game how he sees fit, and doesn't care if others see him as a rule breaker. In an earlier video you said that Omar was breaking his own code; I disagree. He doesn't live by the same rules as others within that life, he lives by his own rules. Going to the police wasn't just about him snitching on Bird, he was using them for intel on Barksdale's crew so he could follow his own agenda and get the drop on them.
    Bubbles is different. I don't think he's in the game by choice, but he has to play to survive. Trouble is he was dealt a shitty hand, hell he's not even holding as many cards as everyone else so he'll play the game how he needs to in order to survive.
    One of the things that is so great about The Wire is that it shows how things really are, and that nothing is as simple as one might think. I'd like to think that it challenges everybody's preconceptions no matter what position you start from. It certainly did with me.
    Your insights are fascinating and articulate and your passion really shows, you're in for a hell of a ride and I'll be looking forward to your reactions to the upcoming seasons.

    I've known cops and from what they've let on, that siezed money basically either eventually goes to fund anything the department wants including extra fancy coffee makers, or sits in the evidence room as part of an unofficial slush fund that important people in the department can "borrow" from when they have a financial issue come up. There's absurdly little oversight.

    Capitalism has been atrocious for POC communities. It's not just in the US either, it's also the global system. It's not a coincidence that the first world is all of the white countries and the third world is all of the brown countries. The legacy of colonialism remains because we aren't eliminating the social hierarchy of capitalism when we fight against an openly racist part of the system. So for instance we get society to admit that colonialism is bad, but we never eliminate the power structure that we got out of colonialism. That power structure means the imbalance of power is maintained even if we don't openly do colonialism anymore.
    It's kind of annoying to me that when we say stuff like this people think we're describing politics. Like, this isn't me doing politics. I'm just stating some obviously true facts about the world. You can then decide if you want your politics to match those facts or not, and you have the right to choose whichever politics you want. But you don't get to choose whichever facts you want.

    Hi Eternal, great discussion. You seem to know a great deal about US history and you're making your points.
    One question that came to mind was: Avon and Stringer make money off the desperation in their community and keep it for themselves. The drug addicts they enable steal in the community, and the Barksdale business strategy involves community members getting killed and living in fear (like the witness a couple episodes ago).
    Snitching being off the table, how would you like the community to handle the situation? Have a nice day

    • @eternal47777
      @eternal47777  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’ve stated this before and I didn’t feel like I needed to say again over. I’m completely against selling drugs that are not weed. They destroy people and communities. That’s why I’ve never done it myself. On the other hand I do understand why people do sell drugs out of survival. I love Avon and stringer character for the show but as people they deserve to die. At the same time i can understand the point that If they don’t do it someone else will. That’s not right lol and it’s especially not right not to invest in the community that you play a part in its destruction but it’s about your own personal morals. Drugs is big business and the American way. Avon and stringer are no different from CEO’s of corporations and big business. That’s my thoughts on that, thank you and have a nice day as well ✊🏾

    There's a character they use to explore the idea of 'snitching' in more depth in Season 4, if you stick with the series until then. I see where you're coming from, not liking it or anyone who does it, but the problem with condemning all snitching is that, without any informants, in the end the only justice you can ever hope to get on the streets is what you can get for yourself with a gun.
    And that ultimately means that it's people like Avon, and later people considerably worse than Avon, who get to decide who deserves to live or die, since they have more muscle and more guns than anyone else. And those people usually don't give a shit about anything but their money, their freedom and their reputation, and are more than happy to kill anyone who gets in the way of those things.

    No offense taken, wasn't around to influence historic events that affected black communities. These days; I try to get along with everyone in the community regardless of their origin. Here in London; within a 1 mile radius of my borough: we have Nigerians, Somalis, Ethiopians, Ghanaians, Egyptians, Bengali, Indians, Sri Lakans, Afghanis, Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Philippine, Brazilians, Argentinians, Portuguese, probably more I haven't even met. Doesn't make any sense to be prejudiced, whether you agree with what a group or a section of that group does; you still have to live together. From my brief experiences of the USA; it seems far more segregated than the UK. Not saying there is no racism here, there always will be sadly, in any place where large numbers of different folk live close together. But the closer contact does bring familiarity and eventually breed respect hopefully. Keep up the commentaries, hope you get to seasons 4 and 5. Season 4 in particular is incredibly well done. Peace
