Adding +4 is an outdated method so is measuring the above bust method which only works for cup size B, but not for others. In the past bra band lacked elasticity due to poor quality hence, underbust +4/+5 (for odd no.s) were used to measure. However with improved quality of bra bands now this method is outdated. Just measure the under bust size (below breast) example 32 and fullest part of breast - example 38. Cup size would be 38 minus 32 equal to 6, that is F. A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, E or DD=5, F or DDD=6, G=7, etc. Hence bra size would be 32F or 32DDD. There is also something called sister sizing, 32F = 34E = 36D = 38C = 40B are all equal. When band size is increase, cup size decrease - for non availability in your sizes for extreme sizing. However best to use bra size closest to your bandsize for perfect fitting. Too much info, just have researched over the years for comfort and support. Hope it helps!
Okay, you and these lovely ladies know a great deal. I’ve tried both of these methods for measuring and I _keep_ purchasing the wrong size bras. I was even told to wear a bra which lifts everything up and measure that way (I was a DD, but aging and weight loss have changed me). Would you please share your guess as to what I may be doing wrong? I’m also having difficulty choosing sizes for the comfort/support bras, which often have no underwire (yay!) - sometimes they just have S, M…. or band size (34, 36, etc.), and I still get it wrong. So tired of returning, exchanging, & costs! I’m genuinely sorry for the length of this comment. I’ve decided I’m on a mission to get myself the right bras. Thank you for reading this. Any information you may share would be so, so appreciated. 🤗
Please start using an underbust measurement. The over bust measurement has nothing to do with where a bra band sits and will result in a too large band and a too small cup. The lady shown for demonstration was probably closer to a 34F or FF. It's unfortunate you're perpetuating outdated sizing that serves only to help put more women into limited size ranges that won't give them a snug band or cup depth needed for proper support.
This is confusing, aren't you supposed to measure band size under the breast above waist? Most brands do that, but I noticed Hanes size chart uses the same method above the chest like you did. If I use your method, bra band size changes by 4 inches.
It is supposed to be under the breast. We are supposed to scoop our boobs up more in a bra to have actual support for all of our breasts. Most women where the wrong bra size because they don’t teach this and measure above for the band, which is clearly incorrect for the band. If you have 34 in under your breasts you should be a 34 bans size and what ever the fullest part of the breast is naked measurement for example 42, you take those two numbers and subtract them. 1=a 2=b 3=c and so on. In this case 42-34= 8 which should be a 34h.
Victoria secret uses the same method, if you notice, the models are wearing bras way too small in the cups. They do this because they want you to buy what they have in stock and think you fit in that size when you don’t. Total scam. It’s also why women with larger breasts have back pain and underwire stabbing them because the band is not doing the support when it should, not the straps.
@@anonymousme2159 Oh they have sizes even bigger than that. Like I said before, most places struggle to carry above a DDD cup so you may have not have heard of it before. But if you had a rib cage of 34 inches and the fullest part of your breasts is 42 inches, that makes an 8 inch difference. Which is considered a 34H in this scenario. But stores like curvykate, usbrastop and bare necessities will carry up to an American O cup. Believe it or not but its not uncommon for women to have big sizes like this, it is just most places don’t carry them. They will measure you incorrectly to give you what they have in stock so they don’t go bankrupt. It’s all a scam.
Its the difference between band and bust but it makes more sense to do this when not wearing a bra and leaning forward 90deg for bist measurement. So A= 1", B = 2", C = 3", etc etc
There is a formula for this. If you getting a band size ( below the exact breast round up) plus 4 if it is an even number to cover the breast volume and plus 5 if you are getting an odd number. This the formula. But any different comes to this you can adjust the cup size
@@its-apple-yo if you calculate the same band size your cup size will be larger if you add 4 or 5 your cup size become small. Woman can check both and what comes comfort they can buy that size
@@S.S.Tsstom352 I'm not understanding why a woman would want smaller cups if they do not fit correctly? 🤔 Of course you want the same band size but larger cups. That is typically the case but most popular store brands don't sell larger cups past DDD. A lot of women fall under small band/large cup combo.
@stom352 Never add anything...other than adjusting for an odd numbered band measurement. I would try a 36D first, a 38C may be too loose especially after the band stretches. At that point, trying a 36C may be in order, etc. Without trying on different sizes, the search for nirvana is futile. Bras are also inconsistent between manufacturers, underwires are as well. A good bra fitter knows, brand by brand, the differences and will be able to steer you in the right direction. Don't think that all bras are the same...just because they are the same size.
Thank you so much, this was very informative and helpful for me and much easier to understand compare to all the additional and subtraction methods out there Cheers🎉
I never thought I was an I cup until I was professionally measured by Wacoal bra. I was walking around in a 44 DDD, bras were uncomfortable or would shift and my boobs sweat any temp over 50. They measured me at 40i. Bra fits well all the way around, doesn't move, covers , no spillage. You'd be surprised, I say go for it.😊
I'm having the same problem. I'm thick 41" and my saggy breasts (because I HAD implants (now removed) = 40 = A haha I'm not. I got measurements at VS they told me 44dd that's not it either! Needless to say I just don't bother anymore! I got excited about shapermint but I'm not an A and without trying on I'm just not going to bother! 😢

While we're all talking boobs here I simply had to mention that I've found it nigh on impossible to find a half-decent bra in a D or DD cup size, well not in a size 34" anyhow? Most brands begin their D cup sizing or larger at a 36" band size as you must all be aware. In the past when I have lumped for the 36/DD sizing I found that the band size was too loose for me and the bra rode up, practically strangling me by tea-time. If what this lady says is true, I'm interested to discover whether I would most likely suit a 34/E? However, my chances of finding a bra off the shelf in that particular size are diddly squat. 🤦🏻♀️ So I will have to stick to 34DD with my usual trustee brand for the time being, I guess? ps. Hey! I have literally just had my very first Playtex bra (34/D) delivered through the door and after trying it on I've found that their band-sizings are a much tighter fit than other brands. This development opens up the choices to explore uncharted territory in cup sizing via a 36" band size. The quest continues tomorrow.. beginning with a 36/E...? 🤔? Aww, heck.. Now I'm all bamboozled! 😂😱 I do hope all this speel was helpful to someone out thurr at least? ps. ps. I bet Rachel Welch didn't have these problems in 'A Hundred Million Years BC'? 😉
