IMO the big difference from most other nature photography channels is how you find interesting subjects/scenes where I wouldn't have found anything. Your content is truly inspiring!
Hello Simon - one of the reasons I love your channel is that you are not like so many of the other photographers out there. You are not on the hunt for the most epic scene available. Rather, your attention to detail and calm demeanor is what I appreciate. I also value the “poo lessons.” When you allow us to see the minute beauty of Mother Nature: textures, colors, and shapes it is absolutely joyful. And I then marvel at Mother Nature’s diversity. I always tell my students to do what you are passionate about - regardless of the money. You will never be happy chasing that. Keep chasing what you love Simon.
I really enjoy your videos. The calm, the stories, the small interruptions when a bird is calling out. And especially your photos, of course! Your knack of finding great compositions in "mondane" surroundings is very inspiring to me. If you want to go overboard, please do, but I'm happy as it is. Your channel is the one I never miss!

Hey Simon. For me personally, there is one thing that makes your channel absolutely outstanding. You remind us to appreciate what we find right at our doorsteps. Rather than hunting for ostensibly spectacular places or subject matters, you help relearning to see and cherish a more subtle beauty of nature. I don't mind a bit of repetition at all. Rather the opposite. It's a challenge that a lot of nature photographers face.
Please keep taking forest floor photos. They are beautyfull and show that we can take photos almost anyware without looking for grand vistas that are often difficult to find and go to. I have a small woodland in my back yard here in Canada and find new subjects almost every time thanks to you.
I have watched so many TH-cam channels regarding photography over the years. Fantastic locations with top of the range equipment (if it’s your hobby you want the best of course). Finding your channel has given me so much inspiration. I didn’t realise how much there is just in my local area. Great tutorials to keep me interested.
I think I'm with many of the others Simon. I love the informative walks and notes on composition and the results. Passing on your knowledge of trees, plants and wildlife is always interesting. If you do get an exceptional picture, well so much the better. Your level 3 is my exceptional one!

I echo the comments of others who say your channel is great as it is. I especially enjoy how you notice images many of us would never notice, and how you talk through your composition. Your thought process and the high standards are at least 2 things that I learn from all the time.
You should do whatever makes you happiest while you're in the field. I'm just happy to go along for the ride. I've been doing landscape photography for about a decade. If I had to choose only one channel for landscape photography, it would be yours, hands-down. I learn something new with each episode. I appreciate the detailed explanations of your compositions and your methods.
As much as I like and enjoy your eye for macro woodland composition, I miss the old days of coastal photography, and the wider compositions.
I love the way you can find shots amongst the ordinary, because that’s exactly what I aspire to do. As others have said do what you want to do, it’s your channel not ours, we just follow along

Your wandering about and finding nice pictures is such a stimulus....please don't make it to an almost unreachable goal to follow by showing only unreachable high quality photography.

I would suggest you stick with the images that YOU find appealing. If you find an exceptional subject then by all means capture it. But I've enjoyed the choices you've made so far. Your ability to find beautiful images just by walking through the woods or along the coast has served as an inspiration to me.
Your videos offer constant education, whether it is your encyclopedic knowledge of flora and fauna or your delivery of the thinking behind your compositions. Keep doing what you're doing, the delivery is perfect. When the truly amazing images come along, just highlight that fact and take time to explain why.
Why are we hooked on watching your channel. You educate and inspire about nature and photography. You show us how to look. Never boring. So show us what inspires you. We will be with you.
Nature is beauty and you find it everywhere from the forest floor to the treetops. Love watching your channel and have learned to take the time and look around. Discovery of the beauty in nature and how to appreciate it is one of your many strengths. Your generosity in taking us along is greatly appreciated. Experiencing your videos is always' exceptional'. Hello Simon. As I'm sure most viewers would agree, I don't think there's any need for changing the way you approach your filmmaking or the kind of images that you present. I understand you are probably more critical about your own images than many of who are viewing them are, but as I have said before, it isn't ALL about the final images anyway.
Your style of presentation, enthusiasm for your subjects, and calming manner are things that are missing from a lot of other photography channels, making you one of the best to watch every month. ❤

There is no other channel that makes me want to grab my camera and go out and shoot like your channel Simon! It's such a unique thing, such a high motivation for me. I wait week after week for your new video, in my opinion there is no reason to change anything! I, like everyone else love your channel as is. It's not only informative about photography but it is also informative about nature etc. At least it is for me. I learn something new from every video I have watched, which almost all of them.
What I appreciate about your films is two-fold: your hunt for and explanation of the composition and the genuine excitement you get from photography. The detail you provide around finding compositions and why they work for you is invaluable. The enthusiasm with which you do so is inspirational. Whatever you decide, I would suggest keeping the channel true to you as a photographer. Photograph your passion because, in doing so, your enthusiasm comes through and the film becomes more engaging as a result. I fear we lose authenticity when we attend to others wishes over our own. That, I feel, would be a detriment to the channel. Just my opinion obviously. Love your films Simon. I'm sure whatever you decide will be best for you and the channel and the content will be as valuable as always.

just be real.. your devoted will be real.. your videos are amazing... they are like nature documentaries.. i tried doing them.. and it needs a director, editor and sense of photography..
There are lots of 'epic' photo shoots to be seen on TH-cam. I certainly enjoy them but I get far more inspiration seeing you out and about, finding compositions in the types of places I can relate to. Whenever I'm out with my camera and think there is nothing to be photographed, I think of your videos and how I need to look closer at my surroundings.
I am willing to watch whatever you want to post. I learn something regardless. Thank you for your content. I have and continue to learn a lot.
It was a couple of years ago that Thomas Heaton highlighted your channel when you showed there were things to photograph in the summer. That video, and subsequent ones, enabled me to see more and get more out of summer outings with the camera and if I did not always come away with something, it didn’t matter. Getting out and engaging with nature was more important. I love the pace of your videos as well as your choice of subjects. Rather than move away from, say, the forest floor, or coastal floor images, maybe once in a while, look for something more elusive, say one in every four or five videos, or whatever frequency is manageable, but maintain the regular content too.

Simon, I always enjoy your work. Today’s images are no exception. As for my response to your question, If you only want to show work you consider to be exceptional I am fine with that decision. You usually show three images; however, if an outing only provides one image I will be satisfied. You have a significant number of variable constraints to satisfy to produce even a category 3 image. Too little light, too much light, light in the wrong place , light disappearing while you set up, a distracting element that cannot be avoided, and on and on. Show what you will I will enjoy. Smaller compositions are more numerous, and your photographic eye is trained to notice them. If you like them shoot away. A beautiful scene is a beautiful scene no matter it’s size.
I appreciate the "image" critique in the field. The reasons you set up a composition and what to eliminate or important features to include.
I really like the 1st and 2nd images. They were gorgeous.
Simon to be honest, I - like many others in your comments - just enjoy watching what you do, however you do it. If your looking to explore new realms which initially hinders the number of shots taken, then go for it. Your photography is for you, we're just hear enjoying you being you. Crack on mate.
Rather than repeat, I'm with the others regarding the way you have been choosing and presenting your compositions; inspiring and informative. To me, what is important for you to be taking photos of and presenting to us is what pleases you. I hope you never consider choosing compositions based upon what viewers may like rather that what is most pleasing to you.
Hi Simon, I will never tire of seeing the more intimate images that you so skillfully capture. I'm happy for the channel to carry on 'as is'. If you manage to see an image with a wider view then capture that and include it in the video. I keep going out trying to capture the sort of images that you find 'easy' to see and take but it's still a challenge for me and I'm sure many other subscribers. I've also recommended your channel to other YT's when they include intimate woodland/Meadow locations 😊

Just got to the holly image and love it. I’ve never really seen an image before which immediately said “ print me on aluminium” but this one does
You never fail to deliver in your videos, as mentioned below you find compositions in things that most would walk past, another excellent educational lesson. to me it does not matter wether you show more in depth compositions or the more common, both hold the interest to the viewer.
You should do a segment on the more illusive shoots vs normal content, like one day a week.
I love things as they are. Understanding your thought process is very useful
I personnally find it interesting whether the images are, for you, easy or more challenging. It is how you take on the challenge of finding suitable subject material I find important.
It's your ability to spot and compose those intimate forest floor shots and your explanation of how you are working with the scene and the light that marks you out as unique among the photography TH-camrs IMHO. The wider scenes are also interesting, but there are a lot of others doing that. I love and value your work. (Bit late commenting as I've been away for a few weeks, but always go back to catch up on your video when I get home)👍
I love your channel just the way it is, which is why I always watch as soon as I see a new video. I'll always get something out of your content so I'm fine with whatever you do.
The main things I like about your videos is you showing us your process and thoughts, as opposed to "5 Things You're Doing WRONG!", or "You MUST Try This AMAZING Camera!", etc., etc., ad nauseum. So I'm fine with doing what you've been doing, or being more selective if that makes you happier; but what will keep me here is continuing to inspire me rather than lecturing me.
I hear you. I hate that hard sell video content too.
First, I think that the 'walkthroughs' you're doing are gold - i really like the feeling of being there with the screen and working through (and also anticipating) the compositional options with you. Second, the Fagus understory is an interesting one. The sparseness of the vegetation: in New Zealand, we have the Nothofagus, and in my experience that's quite typical as well. In the forest i live in, many of the ridges are dominated by Nothofagus, and really the only tree of any significance that seems to tolerate close proximity with them is our Phyllocladus trichomanoides. Neither of these trees are deciduous, but the carpet of leaf-litter in the contrasting forms, amongst low clumping mosses, can be absolutely spectacular. I don't know for certain (at all, really), but i suspect that the Nothofagus produces a chemical in its roots that inhibits other plants, and perhaps this is the case with the Fagus as well(?). @@CarolineOrdHume Five times - that's just alarming! Hey... i loved your video of the swans doing their laborious take-off routine; Jesus was a swan (apparently-maybe). The geese i didn't really approve of because of the level of violence. The closest we get to that in our parts is magpies bombing hawks, which is basically an Australian thing. Anyway, you're welcome to drop by anytime. All the best from a cabin in a swamp in a rainforest in Taranaki.

@@SimonBoothPhotography not at all. There is something new all the time. Indeed if you look at HT or Paul Crompton, or Gavin Hardcastle , they shoot the same scene quite often. Indeed since G Hardcastle moved Nova Scotia he gas become quite repetitive Indeed. So no you have nothing to worry about. You are genuinely unique. The rest shoot the big vistas; sunrise and sunsets repetitively.

Over the past few years, your videos have become a part of my routine. Especially through out the Pandemic and lock down. I fully enjoy seeing all your images. But I think I would like to see a more diverse set of images. In short keep the forest floor photos but add in more of the illusive choices you come across.
I for one would also like to see more post-processing video. Maybe one a quarter or bi-annual. OR, Maybe a written tutorial.

I really like the channel as it is …. I like to see your ability to capture excellent images when many of us would think there were no subjects …. It certainly helps me “see” compositions when out in the bush.

I quite enjoy your channel as it is. The quality of images that you show is very high - IMHO higher than any other channel I am aware of. The "More Elusive" images will come whether you include the photos you rate as "3" or not. It would be my preference that you continue posting as you do now - please don't reduce the number/frequency of our videos. Thanks for asking.
I have been using your films to nudge me away from my usual points of view. I enjoy all your images, I find your discussions useful and easy to understand. I My viewing is not dependent on the rating you assign an image. I even enjoy seeing the occasional slight mishap (leaving a camera bag where a wave can wash up around it, not pulling the cover back over a bag after removing equipment) Your discussions about composition and light are useful and informative. Any way you travel suits me.
As with many others, I find your 3s fantastic already, so am happy with the current style of video. It is always great to watch you exploring a site and finding images even in the most anonymous looking locations. My only quibble would be the length - I follow quite a few channels, but if the video goes above 20 minutes I am increasingly less likely to find the time to watch it. Splitting an outing into two parts would be fine (I think you could make two excellent videos from this one).

To give you my take on the question you asked in the beginning of this video: I admire your craftsmanship and eye for beautiful compositions. Your images are very precise at the risk of being a bit sterile. I’m missing, for the lack of a better word, soul in your photos. I don’t mean drama, what is preferred by so many landscape photographers because I love quiet images. For example from Adam Gibbs or Jamie Overland.
Personally I really enjoy the quality of the images that you produce at the moment. What you call mundane is what I would be very happy to achieve. I certainly don't see your images as dull or boring. However as has been said by others, if you are finding the images you are producing mundane and that they are stifling your creativity then why not mix it up a bit. Some videos as they are now and others more involved. Whatever you decide I will continue to follow you as you find images that many of us simply don't see.
I've neglected my viewing of your channel for a few months, being distracted by other things. I'm now sitting quietly in front of my iMac 27", viewing the images #1 is beautiful indeed. I love your approach to photography Simon!... cheers!
Shame on you...just joking. I hope all is well with you and family. I know the feeling of distractions. Maintaining this channel has been quite a strain lately with important domestic jobs coming out of my ears.
Since you asked for feedback, I'd offer that I would enjoy seeing some videos where black and white is the focus. I often find that color is a distractor, particularly in scenes with so much green. I often switch my monitor to grayscale when watching your videos to see the scene in black and white and many of the photos are really nice in monochrome. Usually by late summer, I find green to be overpowering and the textures, shapes, and lines become lost in all the green. I know you are a fan of golds and browns but I thought the holly leaves image looked really nice in black and white as well.
I love the forest floor images. My area has fewer ancient woodlands and the macro world provides me better opportunities
Yes, the chances of coming home with a great image is much greater if you allow the closer scenes into your armoury.
Please keep photographing and telling us about the subjects that interest you.
Hi Simon. I quite enjoy your videos as you currently make them. It's always delightful seeing new parts of woodlands and new finds, and to listen to your informative discussions. If you change your strategy to focus only on the most remarkable shots, I think your content would be less frequent and it would also put unnecessary stress on you. Just enjoy what you do, as you seem to at the moment. And the memorable shots will still come, mixed in with the other beautiful photos.
I love your forest floor images - it's the kind of photography I've alway loved taking myself - and your outstanding photos are a real help to me. It sets a higher goal|standard for me to try and achieve. Thanks for sharing your insights\vision.
Thank you Simon for sharing those beautiful images and the space where they are in the world. I love being taken along on a walk and just seeing what comes. As for the type of content - bring what gives you joy or delight. Don’t feed the machine of us or the algorithm. If you’re doing what you enjoy and is making you smile - we will end up enjoying it just as much you. Do it for you first.

Your images and presentation are always inspiring and absolute top notch. Having said that, I would love to see you pushing your creative limits and taking us along with you. So my vote is for including new challenges! I suspect that might have been your intuition anyway. 🙂
I enjoy your videos because you can find interesting scenes alot of us would walk right by. You also seem to have alot of knowledge about the wildlife and ecology you encounter. Very few people know what kind of trees and plants were looking at. It's very educational to see thos explained. Thank you for posting such interesting content!
Another masterclass, Simon, well done! You are able to find subjects where I would still be walking, although the group of fungi at the start of the video would have been a photo op for me. It is amazing to compare the two photos from last week...to me the open patch on the right was better for the rain, but the rock wall on the left was nicer when dry but a blob of dark in the rain. Your videos are really helping me develop my photographers eye. Thank you!!

Hi Simon, I really enjoy your videos and I do appreciate the fact that you give us all this useful information about mature. Your knowledge adds more value than a common photographic vlog. Personally, I don’t mind the current format and content of your videos. Having said that of course, I wouldn’t mind seeing the more elusive photos but I think you would add unnecessary pressure to yourself as these kind of photos wouldn’t come all the time. Unless you are up for the challenge. Either way we are happy with what you are producing and if these shots actually do come they will be very welcome. 😃

Simon to answer your question about how I or what I would enjoy viewing? I like the channel the way it is. But remember that it is your channel and you can do as you wish. Perhaps if you want to mix it up and create a challenge for yourself yo might do an every other month . One regular and the other more in depth. Just keep thr channel going.

I really enjoy watching you go for a walk with no specific image in mind and see what catches your eye. I find, in my photography, that if I try for a certain type of shot, I rarely get a great image, but if I wander with an open mind and eye, I usually find something pretty neat and I enjoy myself more. Hi Simon! I enjoy your channel the way it is. I value the knowledge you pass along, and your authenticity in sharing what you encounter and choose to capture. I believe art needs to be true to ones self, and don't think you should filter your videos feeling a need to entertain us; At one point in my creative career, I attempted to do things in a way that I thought would please others, and quickly found the pressure of trying to meet a self-imposed bar made the experience less enjoyable for me, and lowered the quality and volume of my images. If we all made the same trek you did in this video, I'm sure we would all use our slightly different styles, tools and techniques, to come up with completely different compositions. I watch your videos to learn from and follow an artist at work. Best Wishes!
