  • Another popular song is Zamboanga Hermosa which praises the beauty of the women of Zamboanga. The song originated in the pre-war era, but it was only during the later part of the 1930's when it was made popular by Matias Ranillo, Sr.,(a Dipolognon) Governor of Zamboanga Province. Later, a Cebuano Vod-a-vil show director, Borromeo Lou, popularized it. A Zamboangueño well-known local write and poet in Spanish who wrote the lyrics was Vicente Orendain.

My mother Gin Ranillo- Papa ( eldest daughter of Governor Ranillo) extends her heartfelt appreciation for crediting the popularity of the song sung by his father, Governor Matias C. Ranillo during his term as gobernor of Zamboanga 1938-1940 and Assemblyman 1941-1946..

I know the difference between Mexican and Castillian.
I am just surprised that the song used the Castillian pronunciation when we have always said "Samboanga" and never "THAM-boang-ga".

pronouncing "th" traces its roots to Castillian Spanish. It is similar to speaking British English vs American English or Castillian Spanish vs Mexican Spanish.

THDo they really pronounce "PRECIOSA" as "PRE-THIO-SA" (where the "TH" sound like the "TH" in "THEATRE")?
I always thought they pronounce it like "PRE-SHO-SA". Can someone confirm?

Okay. Maybe my ears aren't serving me right.
Anyway, at least to the people that I am in contact with, they would say /sam-bʊɑŋ-ga/ and not /zam-bʊɑŋ-ga/. But since you're Chavacano, i think i should reconsider.
Also going back to the original question, PHL Spanish is from the MX dialect w/c is close to Andalusian. Thus, ceseo is not really a character of PHL Spanish.
So, why pronounce it /pre-θjo:-sɑ/ instead of /pre-sjo:-sɑ/? All PHL borrowings sound like that.
