Can you tell me the finishing and polishing process that is applied. In my sheets, the surface touching the bottom plate comes out extremely smooth but the top surface comes somewhat rough. Also the colour seems a bit washed off. How do I finish and polish them for a smooth and vibrant looking sheet?
You often have slight thickness variation, generally around 1mm and also generally in the middle. If you have it more it might come from the sheet-press bending if built with smaller sections, or the heating plate or its supports being bended. Try to press applying the pressure more progressively to reduce this effect.
@@yannclm5231 Fabricate your press such that the top plate has even pressure across the entire plate. Ensure that the bottom plate has equal support from underneath across the entire plate. It's all a matter of having a stabile, solid setup with no flex or deflection. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum
A wax spray can be used on aluminium so it won't stick. If you have air pockets in sheet put some more clean plastic in the pocket and use heat gun to melt it and a flat blade to smooth it out.
Great video and one day I'd love to have the funds and space for a large sheet press but my smaller one will do for now. What mould release oil do you use ?
what is the lubricant used? would vegetable oil or mineral oil work?
