  • On 12th July 2024, the Indian government declared 25th June as 'Constitution Murder Day.' This day marks a dark period in India's history when, for nearly two years, the country resembled a dictatorship akin to North Korea. During this emergency period, hundreds of thousands of people, including opposition leaders and royal family members, were imprisoned and tortured without any crime.
The concept of 'bulldozer justice,' which the current opposition criticizes, originated during this emergency. Congress, which champions minority rights today, was accused of mass persecution of Muslims at the time.
The emergency was initially justified by some as a nationalist move necessary for the country, with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and even the RSS supporting it. The declaration of 'Constitution Murder Day' by the BJP raises questions about whether it's a political tool or an attempt to whitewash current accusations of dictatorship against Modi.
