    This is by far the best head cleaning tutorial I’ve found! Currently rebuilding a 450 grizzly and was looking for a better way to clean the carbon growth.

    Well done video on cylinder head cleaning, was just what I was looking for on how to best clean my Kohler cylinder head on my CV493s engine when I do the head gasket this winter :-)

      Glad it helps, just have to be patient it takes several cleanings and scrubbings to get them clean. I have another video on piston cleaning you should watch also

      @@MowerMike I watched it right after this one Lol; it showed most of what I did not do well the first time I did a head gasket a couple of months ago Lol.

    Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas prevents this type build up and gives extra power and smoothness. It is really Miracle and everyone that uses it just loves it.

      Hmm good question. I bet some fine sand with some water would work, just make sure to clean it before putting it back on.

      @@MowerMikeI bet that’s too abrasive. I would prefer toothpaste with baking soda over sand.

    On modern common rail turbo diesels would you advise to spray Hylomar onto gasket prior to installation?..

    I may have missed it but did you check the valve lash (and possibly need to grind the end of your valve stems) after lapping your valves as the clearance has shortened after the lapping process?

    • @MowerMike
      @MowerMike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep after you install the heads you always need to check the valve lash. Check out my Kawasaki head install video to show how to set the lash

    Those aren't valve guides...they are valve stem seals. The guides are the long barrels that the seals press onto.

    I don't think I'd trust a 2"x4" and sandpaper to flatten a head surface. There are some pretty twisted 2"x4"s. Maybe table saw surface would work.

  • @victorjudice7344

    Mike, it's not valve guides, it's valve guide seals. It is better to lap the valves before you install the seals.

    • @MowerMike
      @MowerMike  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Damn that is a good point.

    • @happyrecluse2849
      @happyrecluse2849 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      On this point, You can use the old stem seals to help alignment when lapping then swap them out for the new ones after a real good cleaning of the head itself.
