This is no joke, I was on that EasyJet Plane and I was scared to death. There were several passengers feeling sick due to stress. More, those passengers were supposed to arrive on sunday but the flight turned back to Lisbon due to the fog. So all the passengers were already very tired and scared from the day before. But I want to thank the EasyJet Crew and the pilot itself they did a wonderful job they gave all the informations and each time we had a missed approach the pilot explained everything, and what would be the next step. When our plane touched the ground they had a huge applause from the passengers. Thank you EASYJET for the wonderful JOB.
That pilot has some serious balls... The passengers by the window near the wings must have crapped themselves when the wings started to flap like they did at 3:54... Massive respect, and the biggest applause to the pilot.
Ricardo Jorge Nobrega Fernandes I only fly with TAP to Madeira but happy to.know that everything went well.with Easy Jet. Madeira is always scary but that was super scary :) I hope.you enjoyed your travel after all that...
That is absolutely crazy!! Seemed to be a big pocket of turbulence just over the start of the runway. Certainly threw most of the pilots off especially the TUIFly and Monarch pilots! Unbelievable catches, honestly one of the best plane spotting videos I've ever seen!!! :D
As always, beautiful work! If St. Maarten is "the greatest plane watching spot in the world" (as many people claim), Funchal has to be a close 2nd place. Plus, St. Maarten has neither the weather, the danger, nor the spectacular surroundings of Funchal. Keep up the great work---Madeira is the best watch on the net!
Very nice video! Amazing go arounds!:) That one at 5:05 was a bit dangerous, wasn't it? I like the Luxair very much!:D Do you use a micromuff because we can't hear the wind that much?
finnair, scandinavian and icelandair pilots are the best trained for this kind of landings, they usually fly into powerful gusts of wind on zones near the artic with poor visibility, heavy rain and snow
go arounds cost fuel as you need takeoff goaround power as well as losing time and strenous too as it needs a lot of concentration and is frustrating for all but necessary depending on technique amd sideforce
Nice video .. You can see exactly which driver a little guts and which not. Looks really really nice to really see this is it! These are another spectacular landings
Fantastic! Kudos to the Finnair pilot! And additional kudos to the Easyjet pilot for making a solid second effort. Definitely subscribing to your channel!
Wonderful stuff as always. I wonder, is this airport the one in Europe with the most recorded go arounds? Which airline has the most? I seem to recall many fine Lufthansa landings in difficult circumstances, is there a real difference between airlines in this regard? One day I will visit Madeira and not just for the airport!
I like your videos, but I do have a small criticism. Would you be able to show the entire approach, landing, and rollout? It would be nice to see each approach and landing in its entirety.
I'm Finnish and somehow once I saw that Finnair plane I immedietly knew it was going to land xD And did a good landing even tho it wobled around a lot.
Fantastic video Sam, what ever goes on at FNC you're always there with your camera! Reading in the news here up north, that people landing there last monday, were shitting their pants! Thanks for a great clip.
Amazing conditions, I live in Tenerife and the same happened here lots of go-arounds! By the way, it's amazing how ALL Scandinavian airlines land first time and the other not...Skills!
+Oliver Philip Guhl I've been to Tenerife three times (once in Puerto de la Cruz and twice in Playa de las Americas) and Finnair pilots always land smoothly and on schedule despite the winds. :)
Rumour has it that some UK theme parks are considering turning this into a ride! Puke bags at the ready people, not to mention some disposable hooded poncho's in case of projectile vomiting!
awesome compilation, everything seemed to go ok during approach but when they were nearly on the runway, it all went insane ! great piloting skills though, those crews had to be under pressure, especially of easyJet..
I have family in Madeira and I used to go visit them every summer, so I have been there 8 times. You never know what the conditions are going to be like on the day you travel there. The only time when I am truly afraid of flying is when I have to land there.
For those of you that don't know, the airport used to be only 1/2 to 2/3 of what it is today. It was a while before they extended it. From the point of you of this video, the extended part is on the left (the direction the planes are coming from). I can only imagine the margin for error before that.
Faz em Outubro 3 anos mas ainda lembro bem este dia em que apenas aterrámos á terceira tentativa, e ainda tinha-mos tentado 2 vezes no dia anterior em que regressámos a lisboa.
I'm not a pilot, but i live in a similar environment to this with cliffs and sea bluffs interacting with strong onshore winds. The strong updrafts and turbulence in these locations sometimes have to be experienced to be believed. you notice that the final approach is just at the spot where these conditions are the strongest. Right over the edge of the bluff. Only experience and anticipation would make for a safe landing under these conditions. All others, WAVE OFF!
Boa filmagem, só é pena que não siga os avioes mais um bocado pela pista para ver o trem frontal a tocar no chão e manterem-se ao centro da pista, coisa que nem sempre é fácil com ventos cruzados...
Wow, excellent video. I can't see how these airlines are making a profit here with so many go around and divertions. Diverting to Tenerife is quite a divertion. I remember on the 737 classics that Boeing had training recommendations to use flaps 25 with GPWS overriden and VREF+15 when trying to land on winds like these. Not sure on the NG models with different wing design. Obviously seems to handle better. I mean, some of these guys pushed the nose over right at the flare to reduce the float. Great job, though. Thanks for posting.
the air companies and VINCI/ANAM are being stupid, they do not need to divert all the planes to the Canary islands in order to land, 50 km to the north of Funchal airport exist the Porto Santo airport where all of those planes could have landed. of course the passangers would have to take the ship to Madeira island, but they will rater sent the tourist and the Madeirans to the Canary islands.
***** The problem with porto santo is that altough they have a bigger runway, they cannot handle more than 4 planes at the same time, tarmac is not big enough. Also when there are strong winds most of the time the ferry does not operate. so and unfortunatelly in cases like this it is better to divert to a place where airlines will have better option to accomodate guests in case if they have to overnight. Porto Santo, in winter only has 2 ou 3 small hotels operatiing.

Há que ver tb a falta de aposta do hoteis. a grande maioria fecha no inverno. @@miniena7774 Idiot. I suppose every single word that comes out of your mouth or is typed by your fingers also happens to be a lie, does it?
At 00:05:00, this Tuifly pilot flying has got BALLS !!!!
Crazy airport due to those crazy winds ! Great respect for these pilots !
Lets be happy with those guys
I was going to comment the same one! haha That was probably an abort for 99% of other pilots.
The pilot of the Boeing from 05:05 - extraordinary performance! One true professional!
finnair showing how its done ;)
That is absolutely crazy!! Seemed to be a big pocket of turbulence just over the start of the runway. Certainly threw most of the pilots off especially the TUIFly and Monarch pilots! Unbelievable catches, honestly one of the best plane spotting videos I've ever seen!!! :D

5:10 THAT was quite amazing though I would hate to be inside that plane.
It was cool, but i believe the procedure would be to go around because it was unstable on final approach, but im no pilot
Those are some ruff conditions, very exciting video to watch!
when i first saw this video it had 300 views and i told my self this shit going viral lol

Exelente video, como este a poucos aqui no youtube!
Awesome video! Some crazy weather!
This video really shows why flying is only the second most thrilling thing we can do. The first is landing. This is real, seat of the pants, flying.
I went several times to Madeira and the landing was always scary. At least with my flights. Excellent footage.
Saiste sempre do avião com uma manchinha nos boxers... granda porcooooo ! :-D
Naaaa. Isso só deve acontecer se ele se espetar mesmo
Spectacular captures! Amazing

Finnair made it nice and smooth on the first try :D And so did SAS and TAP
+finnishguy845 - and Jet time as well ;)
Nice, was the Tuifly Nordic rapid descent caused by a windshear ?
Or sidedraft
Este video se fosse no pico do facho visto de tras a aterragem tambem ficava que nem mel, bom video.

How many heart attacks??? As usual amazing video man!
WHAT ABOUT THE FUEL STOCK OF THE AIR CRAFTS WHICH PASS THE RUNWAY OVER? ISN'T IT A MATTER OF RISK?
They always fill the aircraft with extra fuel, in case they do need a go around, they have enough fuel to go another 2-3 maybe 4 hours of flying
EagleGaming Carrying extra fuel is expensive. Flights are planned with enough fuel to reach the destination, fly more than one approach and then continue to an alternate destination if necessary. How long the a/c can continue to fly depends on the destination and suitable alternates but 2-4 hours is unlikely.
