Ideal add-ons to Cabal are 1 Villain Controller & 1 Villain Protector. I plan on putting him with Cabal & Zemo. Zemo to pop Speed up & Ares to combat Safeguard. I guess they end up being a more Meta War offense vs an 'ok' one. Datamines showing Vampire and Sentinel minions, so maybe Zemo coming back?
Scopley was right when they said they were making the kits too crazy, The idea of "We're refocusing on stats and not crazy kits" is honorable, but they've in too deep. No regard for real, true balance for the last 2 years, and course correcting NOW after the damage has been done is going to be nearly impossible, imo. I'm happy to let them try and cook, but I don't expect any miracles to happen. - The new Annihilator kits are still really really over the top so I think they're going to find themselves in a situation where they said they were going to make stats stronger and kits weaker - Then, because they openly said the plan is for stats to climb higher, they'll still do that - Finally, we'll find the kits need to still be stronger to beat older teams with absurd synergies, so we're just going to get absurdly strong kits with absurdly strong stats and a new wave of "You must spend or you will fail" will hit. Which I suppose isn't too different to how things are now, so whatever I guess.
i THINK with the way they worded the whole thing about changing away from the complex kits and just having higher stats, was mainly and even possibly ONLY about the stats in passive abilities. These new characters have hardly any of the "X characters gain X amount of stat in X gamemode" I think thats all they meant. that theyre just putting all those stats directly into the entire team from the get go, rather than having them give each other stat boosts when you put them all together. Which, while it does mean characters are going to have way higher stats and be kinda crazy, theyll also potentially, in more cases than before, be very flexible how you use them because they wont require their entire team just to have viable stats. L:ike right now, ive been getting tons of use out of Ultimus already just cuz his stats are insane. He can almost one shot black knights if hes a bit higher power than them, ive had him one shot Old man logans, he one shots basically any tank that isnt BK, and can even one shot Peter B Parker if you dont take his buffs away before Ultimus goes. Especially after seeing the whole Annihilator team kits, i sincerely doubt theyre going to move away from complex kits in terms of interesting mechanics and cool abilities. If anything, theyre going to keep making them more crazy. Theyre just simplifying the passive abilities by not having to put all the stats in there. Like, imagine how many extra lines of text youd have to read and memorize of each Annihilator if they each had a passive boosting one of the main stats? Just Surfer and Ultimus alone have like 6 lines in their passives purely for stat increases, which wont even affect the entire Annihilator team. I really think they need to try rephrasing that whole blog post about stat changes to be more clear, because it definitely seems like this is what they meant, yet everyones misunderstanding it(rightfully so, since it was unclear) as making abilities simpler overall. But lets be real... How could you make a team that could handle characters like Mephisto, Logan, Skrull and Apoc... and have a simple kit? Their stats would have to be astronomically high, like a character with 2 million damage and armor kinda nonsense, just to be able to withstand the beatdown coming their way, and dish out enough punishment to kill a team without crazy amounts of control, debuffs, and extra damage potential. And tbf, Ares' Kit is relatively quite simple. His passive stops all buffs and any supporting effects, and thats all he really will be adding to any team you put him on. his abilities will be of basically no importance in most battles you'll use him in, and you wont even need to make him incredibly strong or anything to get max value out of him. He will exist just to stop safeguard, buffs, charge, and revive once on spawn, and after that his job is done.
I think they CAN dig out of the pit they're in, but it'll take some time and some big power leaps. It'll need to do some serious damage to us endgame players to clear out our speed meta teams, but it seems like the only way to accomplish their goal.
I wish he had the same, or similar, kit to how he was in Avengers Alliance: Give all allies counter attack and assist chance as a passive, bleed basic attack that ignores defence, Single target special that grants an extra turn, that also lowers the targets defence and has a low cooldown, and an ultimate that strips all buffs and stuns all enemies. HE was a true God of War.
My goal was definitely to use him with cabal. And hopefully take him in DD7 with cabal and BK since he has villain synergy and protector synergy with BK… but idk now
We have been going down this road for quite a while now. Apoc being so obviously bad upon release and having to be tweaked is a prime example. Temporal dimension QS/MLF ability spam was back when i really saw it as a point of no return. Them having to “fix” stuff that makes it to the live server. Not bugs. Not glitches. But stuff they initially programed in and thought was fine until the players find otherwise. A simple playthrough would have found that that it was too difficult for most players. But they missed it for whatever reason. Then it is the constant need to buff/nerf-ish characters like mephisto, after he has been out for weeks. Teams are now constantly needing to be reworked, fixed, tweaked LIVE. Not old teams. Brand new teams that just came out like Alpha Flight or Illuminati, etc. I have never seen a game miss the mark so much on so many things. Even for MSF, this has become an almost ever present issue monthly now.
I have a question, as someone trying to plan for DD7, with consider how he is unlocked and his “viability” outside of war (a game mode I could care less about), Should I consider taking him in, hold off for a buff, or no?

As somoene who doesn't have SD or New Av or Sup6, If I can use him with TW/ET or on a gamma, Darkhold, or deathseed team as a 5th to beat infestation or NW or other team that those other teams always beat, that's great

Spider Society was Balanced and a Raid team, y'all cried and now they're a top team in all modes. Which means whatever the next team is has gotta be pushed harder, and becomes unbalanced. It's the snake eating it's own tail. Game addicts shouldn't be influencing game development.
Technically Ares passive is 1 buff application. Even though it is several buffs it counts as 1 application for Super Skrull. Now, if Ares took them and gave it to all allies, then that would be detrimental. Be thankful Skrull’s passive doesn’t count each individual buff applied and that it is only per application of buffs.
I'm probably gonna put him on Knowhere in place of Star-Lord. I don't think Ares is suppose to be so amazing that he can make a bad team good, but rather good enough that he can add extra life to a formerly good team. Knowhere is still decent, but starting to show their age, I'm thinking he'll keep them relevant a bit longer.
Basically the same as QS. Announced as ultimate plug & play character but at the end of the day it's just a good but not really godmode character. Since he needs stats probably completely useless for f2p (4 star? 5?). Unless you get at least the passes probably save your ressources for the new team.

Well that's disappointing. I had been considering getting one or two of the passes for some extra shards, but it doesn't seem worth it if all he does it elevate teams that don't need to be elevated.
I know he is a Striker in most applications but it seems weird to take a villain character that goes fast and pair him with Cabal and not use raider. I assume you are trying to create examples of him singlehandly carrying a team to new heights but to ignore Cabal's villain crit gimmick just seems like a misplay.
Ares is going to technically be infinitely more useful for free to play players than big players and spenders, ironically enough. Having a character that will stop all buffs, safeguard and charge on spawn... is going to help punch up against higher power teams soooo much. Undying could already beat almost every team in the game, at ridiculous punch ups.. so with an Ares in the mix, theyll even be able to punch up against Out of Time with BK not being charged. a 1m Undying can currently beat like, 90% of teams you would ever encounter. throw in a purple gear Ares even, and theyll suddenly be able to beat even more things, more easily. This is why i always complain about content creators for this game(mainly mobile gamer) completely forgetting 90% of the playerbase does not have every character maxed out, and does not fight people with every character maxed out. The game is so completely different for almost everyone else. I also still cant believe anyone wastes actual superior six on Gamma. you can use just two superior six, Rhino, Vulture and any other trash, and gamma dies no matter power levels.
Said the same thing on mobiles channel. Character is trash. However I guess I should have expected for a free to play unlock. Stats are not the way forward and I dont understand why they don't get that. Your not going to overpower someone with a much better kit even though your stats are way better. We have seen that first hand in many game modes. They have to add new mechanics to characters and abilities to keep characters from feeling the same.
Ares with Cabal is not a good combo for war as many of us will know the results of that comp. If you were using Cabal with Ares in DD7 it be different story

I think he'll be good as a way around Pretaunt or safeguard, but you can park him at 64 for that to max his passive and call it a day

Tbh Dorky, Ares gonna remove the need to use an Apoc on maxed out SpS BC teams in top 15 war. I see this as an absolute win for offence.
