    I received the A9III 3 weeks ago an using now the Sony HVL-F60RM2 flash with this camera. This is by far the best flash for all SONY cameras. Nothing comes close to the Sony HVL-F60RM2 when using the camera in Hi+ mode.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After the firmware upgrade for the HVL-F60RM2 it is ideally suited to patterning with the A9III. Other flashes will tend to want to defer to HSS which is just not needed with the A9III

    These settings are for Sony flashes used on / off camera. If using a off brand (Godox) transmitter & flash for off camera flash, any flash setting changes on the camera to ensure the flash & sync fires properly?

    I have just got a 45 and 60 flash after years with Godox. I do love the Sony flashes special the 45 as it's so small and light. Im often shooting at f1.4 so I don't need a lot of flash power. The two things I don't like are the AA batteries a huge backward step from the Godox batteries but even worse is not battery level indicator on the flash. That seems crazy to me. I know it tells you when they are low but a level indicator would really help. So I find myself recharging after every shoot even if the flash has only been used a few times just to be safe. With Good I could jo 4-6 jobs without recharging.

      It would be nice if the HVL flashes took the same Z-Series battery that the camera uses. It is one of the more than 100 recommendations I have made to Sony Japan.

    Hi mate, as I'm new to flash photography this has helped me so much. I have two F28RM's but struggling to use them (until this video) but I primarily shoot in aperture priority mode. When using the flash on TTL mode with AP the flash fires still but the iso can still be rather high, I know in AP the iso is set to auto but other than switching to manual is there a way through the flash to get the iso down? Thank you

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes a flash will fire a pre-flash but this depends on your make of flash and your flash settings. TTL is usually the default settings so long as your flash is compatible and talking to the camera. You can then use any mode but be careful not to exceed the maximum sync speed of the camera if you don't have High Speed Sync enabled.

  • @wborre

    I am a bit confused, at the Ratio Value ( 10.00min ) you are talking about A :1/8 , B :1/1 and C: 4/1. Flash power. But isn't it A 8/13, B: 1/13 and C: 1/4 flash power. So in this case A with the strongest flash output. And B the least?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1 is the main flash in TTL - every other number is a fraction of 1 ...so 4 is 1/4 of the power of the channel set to 1. Test to verify what I am saying is correct but you could just take my word for it.

      I only have experience with the Sony Flash systems - I would start by looking at the HVL-F46RM. Nikon, Canon and Sony flashes are always going be more expensive than the flash systems released by the Chinese companies such as Godox (which would be the most popular non-Sony flash systems for Sony cameras).

    Hi Mark, with the “wireless flash” option - I have always had that set to on, as I often use godox ad200pros with a godox trigger mounted on the camera - has always worked fine. I’ve just realised that I can use a godox V1 on camera as a trigger for my ad200pro, but this only works if the “wireless flash” option is set to off, which seems a bit weird to me? What exactly is meant by this wireless flash option? Thanks!

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sony's Flash options are designed to work hand-in-glove with Sony flash units. Wireless on would be what your would be using if your were communicating to an off-camera Sony flash unit. You are at the mercy of Godox's configuration settings and whether they designed their flash units to work with Sony's menus. Sounds like this wasn't the case in this instance.

    Hi Mark,
    Great video as usual, thanks, someone mentioned to me it's better to use Sony Flashguns rather than Godox etc for OCF because Sony has a feature on the A7M4 etc that can display the ambient exposure plus the exposure that is added by the flash. I use Shot Result Preview on my Godox but would be very interested to purchase Sony flashes if this is better for OCF
    Do you have a video on this feature?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      The future you mention isn't a game changer in my opinion. I use Sony flashes because 1) I am a Sony Ambassador 2) the maximum Sync speed is the one Sony lists (rather than a speed lower) 3) I can use the External Flash Settings in the Sony menu 4) they never not fire.
      The compelling reason to buy a Godox is to save money.

It works great, however I am looking for an alternative to shut off the flash trigger on the camera but I can´t find any alternative. I have tried different settings in the flash tab such as "off", the flashes are despite that triggered. Do you know if there is any possibility to shut them off (in the A1). I dont want to reach out and manually shut off the flashes every time, I need an option in the A1? please advise! regards Marcus

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sony cameras are set up to talk to Sony flashes - communication may be compromised when using non-Sony flashes, as the manufacturer may not have designed them to talk specifically with Sony cameras. I expect your ‘external flash settings’ menu could be ‘greyed out’ which could seriously limit what the camera can tell the flash units to do. Consult the Inon ambassador to see what communication is available to you.

    • @Marcusinthemix
      @Marcusinthemix ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlphaCreativeSkills Hello Mark, thanks for the reply. Yes, I understand that the camera only can communicate with Sony flashes. The Inon flashes are quite basic in terms of functionality and the flash shoe is only one pin communication between the camera and the flash. Yes, confirmed, the external flash settings is greyed out. I just dont want the flash shoe to give any signal towards the flashes at all. I thought that this very simple function would be enabled when setting the flash mode to "off", but it still triggers! That bugs me a bit. "Off" should be "off" in my opinion. Any take on that? //Marcus

      Maybe you are using an older Sony camera with the older menus.

    How to go in camera shutter above 250

      Use High Speed Sync (HSS). This will, however, dramatically decrease the power of the flash output.

    Gentile Mark, ho una Sony a 7r ivA, presentata nella primavera 2021. Ho acquistato il flash hvl-f46rm. Sony dichiare che la comunicazione intelligente funziona con le fotocamere di ultima generazione? Ma non ho compreso quali sono?
    Ho trovato una nota dove Sony dichiara che sono compatibili le fotocamere dal mese di gennaio 2021 in poi. La mia Sony Alpha 7r iv A, aggiornamento della Sony Alpha 7r iv è uscita nella primavera 2021.
    Domanda: La mia Sony Alpha 7r iv A è compatibile al 100% con la funzione comunicazione intelligente del flash Sony Alpha hvl-f46rm o per fotocamere compatibili e recenti si intende solo la Sony Alpha 1 e la Sony Alpha 7 iv ????

      The flash will work perfectly with your camera. Newer Alpha models have the option for External Flash Settings in the Flash menu and A1 owners have the option of using their electronic shutter when using this flash at higher frames per second.

    Sony flashes are nice but they too damn expensive haha! Godox is King. I'm still loyal to Sony though 🤣

      Everything is cheaper if it is made and distributed by a Chinese manufacturer.

      had Godox for years, switched to Sony lately, better exposure, better skin tones, for me worth the price as a wedding shooter; still using the AD300 for off camera work

      There is a “n” at the start of “o”, and a “y” on the end of “sa”.
