- Bernard and Shirley Kinsey started their art collection in the early 1970s. It now numbers more than 700 pieces and counting, and is recognized as one of the largest, most encompassing collections chronicling the Black American experience. Elise Preston has their story.

I had the pleasure of archiving the Kinsey Collection at the FAMU Meek-Eaton Black Archives Research Center and Museum as an intern. The collection is MASSIVE.

I met them in Houston a few years ago when the collection was there and sponsored by Wells Fargo. They're lovely people and it is such a gift for them to curate this for everyone. ☺

@@seensay2132 Wells Fargo sponsored it about 10 years ago but when I just googled, it seems the collection will be in Houston at the holocaust museum now through the summer so you didn't miss anything after all. 🙂

I am soon glad that black people curated this massive collection about us. Too many times whites claim our shine take our heritage but this TY his is beautiful. Dr King photos in blk/white, yet their photos are color during the same time period. Ask yourself why
The same reason many studios used black and white filming. Color cost more, especially back then. What are you implying?
Because most news footage at the time was shot in black and white. Hell, color TVs weren't even that widespread in the early 60s, our family didn't have one until years later, and newspapers were mostly black and white except for one section in color.
