    I am in Minnesota and we are allowed to gift free stuff to friends and relatives. They allow four plants in veg and four in flower. I’d keep some kind of rotation going but don’t make concentrates so I can take a month off between grows. So far I just pop seeds and haven’t really settled on any particular strain. I came from a simpler time so I’m just cruising along enjoying a great retirement hobby.

    I’m a professional cultivator here in Colorado - we are religious about serving up PH at appropriate levels for the varying stages of growth - clones @ 5.8, veg and flower no higher than 6.0…
    That being said last season I ran a test crop in my personal garden and did NOT PH my nutes - just ran straight well water (we’ve got fantastic water but very ‘hard’) and also made sure water temp was appropriate. The crop turned out AMAZING!!! Great yield, phenomenal trich production and terps were incredible! So for ME it seemed as though PH wasn’t such a big deal. I still PH today as I feel it’s the ‘best practice’ but it’s not absolutely necessary in my experience…

      Commercial grower in Asheville NC here, run a old school " Dutch table method " ( Continual harvest ). Largest resin crystals I ever saw were on some plants ( That started as cuttings ) that were only in veg for about 4 weeks. Like large grains of sand. Never in 14 years of growing have I encountered that ( Copious resin production in veg ) They were under regular T5 florescent bulbs, in soil, but being watered with water from a very deep well near the foot of a huge hill. My friend and I never got the water tested, but we had suspected the resin production was a result of it

      This year I did a test 2 . Was in soil , dry amending, fabric pots . I started outside. 2 month outside . The plants where perfect . For flower I took them inside. When I took them in . (1000ppfd light ) and started to flower them . I was now ph water to 6.2 . (Wath I never did outside) after 2 weeks the plant started yellowing from the top . ( before flower I amended so food must be good ) now I’m giving extra cal mag and neuts to battel it and is gone . But I still ask myself wath is I did not ph the water and I think the plans was gonna be perfect the howl time . And maybe the ph off the water is the prob … ( I did check water ph I was giving the first 2 months it was 7.8 … I know it’s high but damp the plants was perfect and was the easiest ever en better than ever . Should is just do a howl run no ph’ing water ? 😅

    It seems to me from what you said about the relationship between the root morphology and adaptations of the plant and the microbes that whacking the PH in mid stream is not just unnecessary and expensive, but may be a bad idea. It introduces a sudden balance shift outside the established relationship and comfort zone. Not only that but external PH adjustments tend to be transient. Soil likes to return to it's original PH. If you start with an untampered soil in the correct range you should be golden. If your soil is too far in one direction, blending with soil in the other direction before using should produce a new stable PH level.

    We had a dry summer last year and have been getting drenched so far this spring. I have to RO my well water in order to use it for growing. I fill up twenty gallons of jugs so I only have to setup the RO once or twice a month.
    Recent rains changed my ph and I’d have missed it if I didn’t check. I’d rather stay on top of the PH just for piece of mind if nothing else. Hell, I’m retired and have all day every day to tend the garden so it keeps me busy.
    My wife is into esoteric stones and their properties and I think it’s a bunch of BS. She gives me stones that are supposed to help my plants. I put one in each pot and they stay there for the entire grow. Who am I to question her? I just do what she says and don’t change a thing. 😂😂😂

    If you have water like RO water, there is no mineral solids to maintain a pH. The water will immediately absorb minerals in its environment and stabilize to its surrounding pH. If you have a harder water with calcium and magnesium, your water will need to have the pH adjusted. With a high ppm of solids, your environment will balance to the pH of the water. This usually causes your water to be very base and raising your soil pH to 8.0 or even higher. If you grow with fertilizer salts, correcting your pH is a little more important and definitely necessary in soiless grows. In soil, good fertilizer companies have already solved it for you. If you have to hit that 5.5-6.0 range, that requires a bit of acid.

    • @StanMNdirt
      @StanMNdirt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's what I do, RO my well water because it's 500 ppm even bypassing the softener and I don't know what the 500 ppm consists of which can cause imbalances. I RO it and strip it down to nothing so I know what I'm working with. Soil adjusts the PH but I still monitor that and the PPM of runoff to time what usually ends up being one feeding about half way through flower after soil amendments are used up. It's a pretty simple little indoor garden once a person finds a system that works for them.

    Hyperoxygenated deep water culture with a protein based nute line like cyco is the best growing method hands down. You can actually control the pH in the rhyzosphere. Soil is far inferior. Always available oxygen (yes, plants still need oxygen), always available nutrients, always available water. I yielded 12 pounds in 10’x12’ room with a 21 day veg… 2 lbs per light. My garden was also CO2 supplemented. Good lighting is the best investment. It’s crazy the difference in quality of a $30 bulb compared to a $200 bulb.

It seems like the pH of the bottled water is close enough for the plants in Ocean Forest soil. I haven't had issues with lockout or deficiencies other than an Apple Fritters plant that wanted more food. A handful of worm castings and some Dr Earth's Flower Girl fixed it. I do alternate between Recharge and Stash Blend or use a little of both together about once a week too. But I haven't bothered checking pH much. I live in Chicago where the water is 7.8 normally and I have grown pretty good buds without using any down. Having said that… I have done 6.5 and 6.0 and 5.8 and literally have seen zero difference between 7.8 through 5.8! Now.. if you live somewhere else and you have hard water or some weird issues with your water, you might have a problem. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Ph is mostly important with hydroponic growth, soil they like it very slightly alkaline so they can grab the Ca and Mg, The roots pump acids into the soil that grab the ions they need. Digital PH meters only are for lab use, they dont resond to organic acids correctly. Stuff going acid is a common issue with hydroponics, keep it aereated to purge the CO2 build up and give it some CaNo3 MgCl2, and KNO3 as needed Apply phosphorus as Ammonium phosphate at the plants as a slow dilute drip. Dont forget the trace minerals, best added by a gravel bed that contains the minerals you need. Want to do it all at once and cheap? Try aquaponics. Fish pond, dolomite filter then pump over the roots. Thats it. Microbes do all the work for you for everything short of the pumping itself and the right ones colonize the right places ❤

    1300 ppm co2 in a 5x5 with the inline fan on 2 my tank will last me 11-14 days. I have to have that fan on or it will get above 95 degrees on me. With fan on its 87-95 which is a good range with rh at or under 60% I only use co2 last week of veg to week 6 flower

    Hi Scotty. Man I think I lived in Hollywood Florida same time you were down there. I was there from 78 I was 9. To 95. Anyway here’s my question. This was an auto flower that was called dream queen. After 3 months I realized 5 were not flowering. So I let them ride on 20 an 4. They grew to 5 feet an started flowering man it took these plants 6 months to finish an I still think they could have gone longer mostly cloudy no amber yet. But the buds were so very heavy one of them split right in half. Seriously have YOU OR DOOD ever seen this or heard of it. Almost 7 months an I gota say brother the potency of the medicine is a long lasting not overboard at all but very productive head hi. Do u think these were just weird or something all 5 were almost exact. But good gracious man I threw out several after 3 month’s thinking something was wrong but man now I wished I’d just let the others finish. Never changed light cycle. Lov the show it truly givs me a lift to my day every day I listen. Thanks maybe we went to school together. I was at west Kendall for a while in elementary.

    lol ph is no scam but people get too obsessed with it . I run hydro and I take it down to 5.5 and let it drift up to 6.2 before I adjust it again. Blue lab ph pen is best and keep it calibrated monthly . It’s easy. If I could afford it I’d run the blue lab ph auto doser.

    Calibrating a PH meter is easy, then just check it with the standards and you know you are on.
