One of the Co-Creators once stated on their Animation Studio's Tumblr that the Band considers Laney "As one of the guys" treats her as such with words like "Man" & "Fella" Tho there are several jokes that suggest otherwise like Kon screaming "Laney turned into a girl!" when he saw Corey with long hair, So I guess the writers were really lose on that fact

@@bouncytheboi8175It’s a fairly common dynamic for a girl to be “one of the guys” among a male-centric friend group. Usually the girl will be more of a tomboy and have the same hobbies as the boys.
In other situations, instead of “one of the guys”, the girl is slightly othered in the friend circle as “the girl in the group” and for some reason, that creates a lot of awkwardness (from what I’ve seen in a lot of people’s experiences). It usually happens when the girl is noticeably more feminine (in appearance and in hobbies).
A lot of guys get thrown off when they see their cis tomboy friend look or act more feminine (as if forgetting that was even possible). I suppose it definitely creates some weird implications when the tomboy is a transgirl, but I don’t think it was done with any malicious intent.
They just seem to be treating her like a cis tomboy.
I hate that Corey is THAT clueless that he can't even see that girl literally crushing to him at his face
I will never understand how can anyone love him.
He canonically does know, as they are seen to like eachother back, however, Corey simply prioritizes the band over romance.

I had no idea a girl was crushing on me this hard back in elementary and high school. (Not middle school because I was ugly. Also two different girls) one said to my face I think you're cute and i was just like "thank you very much you too 😁" and walked away. She bought me a new hat when I lost mine for valentines day. Looking back on this show as a queer adult makes me realize it’s way too easy to joke that Laney is a trans girl; pretty sure that’s not the case and she’s just a tomboy, but they definitely make it real easy for if anyone wants to headcanon that
Especially since we’re two for two on characters mentioning she’s capable of growing a beard XD
Believe the term for that would be trans coded- often happens when networks wont allow them to directly state the character's identity, but they still want to include a gay or trans character
Anyone can grow a beard though? Like it's not actually a gendered thing in my experience. I'm a woman, but I've grown a beard and mustache. Shaving only makes it grow back faster, longer, and darker, which was one of the mistakes I made to cause such to occur. Unless there's something I don't know about my own existence, facial hair is simply just facial hair. Same goes for clothes and colors, it's just things.
@TearfulZorua that's a myth, shaving absolutely does not change the growth rate of hair. What it does is cause the ends of the hair to be thicker instead of tapering off- yknow, since you cut off the tapered end. That makes it LOOK like you get stubble sooner, but you don't actually.
