Amazing footage! Very well edited. What a dynamic video.

Love using the S20! Resampling on these machines is pretty amazing for what it is. Always adds that extra crunch and dirt to drums etc. really good video as always 👊

If the floppy drive’s stopped working, you can MIDI dump samples to the S20 via Sysex - if you’ve got a lot of time on your hands! The free Elecktron C6 Sysex Manager works well - useful if you want to edit samples on your PC and then load them to the S20. Luckily, my S20’s floppy is still working fine. I’ve thought about installing an emulator but it doesn’t seem worth the cost and I kind of enjoy the old fashioned approach to disk management, getting by with Omniflop on an old PC to store disk images. Cheers!

I agree with you, half the reason why I picked up an s20 was so that I can use a pack of floppy’s I found at goodwill to save and load up drums and samples thru floppy like they used to back in the day. Something about having plastic squares to flip thru for dope sounds (especially thru the s20 engine) scrams hip hop to me

If you like the S20 you should check out it's direct ancestor, the S01. Even though it has the same sound engine, I prefer it to the S20 because the input circuitry is different (it has a mic/line switch), which makes it sound much nicer when sampling in real hot, especially with drums. The downside is that it only samples in mono, (which is no biggie for me), and it's a rackmount, so it obviously takes up more space and is less portable. It does use 1/4" jacks instead of RCAs though, which I prefer

definitely! I have both, I do wish it could have the extended memory of the S20.

I have used the Zoom SampleTrak ST-224 since it came out and I love it! Have you ever worked with that machine? It's got real character! Much Love! Thank you!

Got both the S20 & ST224 and both are really slept on machines. Amazing sound from them (resampling is always dope on both!)

I once bought it out of curiosity, just cause it was real cheap. And I ended up using it every day, it's just so fast and sounds amazing! A perfect pair to some old generations of Roland SP, cause S20 can make all those things the SP's couldn't (before the arrival of the MK2) - proper pitch, mute groups, transposing via midi-keyboard. And speaking of keyboard - it's just an instant ambient machine! You are sampling one note from your guitar on some lo-fi mode - and then you can pitch it down playing chords on keys and all kinds of that stuff! I love mine and don't plan selling.

The s20 is not justba phrase sampler. Itbis actuallybthe equivalentbof 2 akai S01 rack sqmplers packaged in a desktop format. It is a full fledged polytimbral midi module. The MIDI modes are very useful and when you use it with a good sequencer it really allows to make a lot of things.

This was my first sampler in 1999. It was actually pretty fun to use at the time.

I have an SP-12, MPC2000XL, S2400, and the S20. The S20 has a SOUND that stands on its own. Worst sequencer ever? Probably. But something that’s often overlooked is each sample can have its own sample rate. So with a proper external sequencer you can unleash a whole array of different tones and textures. Even though it doesn’t carry the panache of the other samplers, the S20 has a magic that makes it just as dear to me as everything else I have.

It maxes out at 17mb when you upgrade the RAM, even though the screen reads r 16 (1mb internal + 16). The upgrade is simple, and is only $10-$20.
This was my first sampler back when I got into production in the late 90’s, and yes, the sound was/is mesmerizing. I now have 2 of them (the gray s-20 & black Remix88).

Nice. I bought one when they came out. I've been waiting for you to do a s20 video lol I sold my original s20 back in 2012. Bought another one a couple years back for $250. Im sure they are probably going for a lot more now.
