    Excellent work! I can tell you have the heart of a teacher. Unlike so many others in You tube. You show how it is done, step by step and verbally explain, every detail. Thank you, so much, for teaching us, in a clear and consise way how to do it. You are the best!

    TY for the tutorial. I took my time and installed it in my 2006 odyssey in about 1.5 hours. I was a bit nervous about having to hammer away at the locking ring, but luckily I was able to untighten it by hand.

      You might want to use the original locking ring. Before removing it, make a mark to know how much to tighten to specs near the ring. Just align the 2 marks that you made when beginning to tightening the ring. If you notice that there's about little distance from the 2 marks, you know that must tighten more until aligned up.

    Just want to say thanks, van broke down on us today and I was sure it was the fuel pump since a few days back it started hesitating to start. Watched the video and decided to tackle this right there where it broke down, my fuel pump was a little different but I got the basics we were back on the road in just a little while. Thanks again!

    Just finished switching my old pump out. This video was very helpful. One note on the gasket. I had to slide the gasket onto the pump past the float and circuit board to get the float and circuit board in. Then I had to slide the gasket into place around the base, then slide the pump the rest of the way down onto the base. I tried for a few minutes to slide the pump and gasket into place in the base with the gasket in position at the top ofm the pump but it wouldn't slide into the base properly, and kept folding over. Once I slide the gasket down into the base and got it set properly (while the pump was half inserted) the pump slid in easily. Then you have to get the locking ring on without cross-threading it. The van started right up.

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Christian Wilson thanks for the tip. The ring was the most difficult for me. They make a special tool to take it off and put it on but who wants to spend $100 for that? Glad the van started right up for you. On a side note, keep up with oil changes, and check your oil and coolant level on a monthly basis and the Honda engine will last a long long time

      @@bundysgarage my 2004 Odyssey has almost 300,000 miles on it, no leaks, no check engine light, I did have the transmission replaced at 260,000 miles, but the engine is sound. I've done most of the maintenance items myself with Walmart conventional oil and Fram oil filters. Most of the fixes have been fairly simple, I paid a mechanic to do the timing belt and high pressure power steering hose.

    Thanks for making this video. I changed the pump on my 02 Odyssey in 2012, after I'd seen a video like this, perhaps even this exact one. BUT, it amazes me how many times I hear or read advise from people about various vehicles that say to drain (syphon) the gas, drop the tank, then pull the pump. Poor clueless people.

      It most certainly did. There are 2 other videos on changing the fuel pump on youtube that I thought would be helpful but I was wrong yours turned out to be the one I turned to just before I was getting ready to do the job. Mine is a 04 Odyssey and it sits closer to the rear of the driver's side on the floor of course. I didn't really need to undo the floor carpet screws for the seats on the passenger side. Aside from that, it took me about an hour from start to finish but then I always like to take my time.

    Nice job. You were worried about breaking the large ring when removing and didn't torque the new one down saying you didn't want to damage it. My guess is that you will never be in that area again so a little tapping like when removing would have been a good thing. I believe Honda wants 69lbs torque - that's is quite a bit to not do. Otherwise, GREAT job!

  • @jaredmiller2128
    @jaredmiller2128 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great, great video.
    Two things, first you didn't show how you got the little plastic gasket onto the pump. It's a VERY tight fit to get it onto the pump and snugged up to the upper housing. For those watching, do that before putting the pump in the hole or you'll never get it on.
    Second, I wound up having to pull the new pump out and pull the new rubber gasket onto the pump's upper housing and then insert them into the hole at the same time. I tried doing it the way you showed but when I started the van, the gas level display showed it as empty. When I pulled the pump back out, I saw the rubber ring had worked its way into the tank and was interfering with the float.
    Other than that, it was a very simple repair that even a newbie can do. Thanks!

    Hi Bundy! Thanks for this great video! I have 04 Odyssey that won't start..it cranks but will not run. So far I have replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, and fuel pump..still experiencing an issue. I checked fuel pump relay which seems to be in good condition. I don't know what else to check or do now. Any advise please?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fuel pump relays are known to go bad on these vehicles. Open it up and see
      If you see anything burned or you can even smell it and smell burnt plastic. If that's the case then most likey the relay is bad.

    For those who want to replace just the fuel filter only you can't. The fuel filter on the Odyssey is part of the fuel pump assembly and is not meant to be replaced unless you have to replace the whole pump. Honda says it's not required to replace the fuel filter and is good of the life of the pump. It's all news to me, some cars made now days don't have any fuel filter.

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great point. Yes most modern cars do not have separate fuel filters. Which I think is stupid. Fuel is dirty and needs a filter to trap all the impurities. So they want you to waste money on a $200 fuel pump module rather than $8 - $12 bucks on a preventative maintenance item you could change out at every other oil change????

    Question? how much room you figure is between the floor and the gas tank towards the drivers side? I think I put a small hole in the tank installing a amp under the seat behind the drivers seat, do you think I can get to it without having to drop the tank? it is right in the middle of those seat brackets.

    How many miles does it have? I have a 2003 Odyssey with 68k miles. Running Ok. Do you think the fuel pump should be replaced in my vehicle? It is 15yrs old but low miles.

    would be wise to do this with an almost empty tank if possible

    Bud i have the same van but for some reason my gas runs short on me i was thinkin it may be the pump but now the ac wont stop running even if its off what do you think?

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to be more specific. What do you mean the AC won’t stop running? The air conditioning? The fan? Inside or Outside? The more specific you describe your problem the better I can help you.

      BundysGarage not the fan the ac or when i turn the heat on like when i turn it off i can still feel the air or heat and thats what i think is makin my gas dropso fast

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the vehicle is off you are not wasting any gas. Shut off the AC or pull the compressor relay and see if the fuel still drops fast

      BundysGarage where isthe compressor relay located

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On Odyssey’s from 99 to 04 and prob later years as well. It sits under the hood. If your standing at the front of the car looking at the engine. It’s on your left close to the firewall. Fairly large fuse relay compartment. Pop the top off and look for the relay labeled MG Clutch relay. That’s the relay that energizes the AC compressor.

    “Reflow” the PGM-F1 main relay .. lots of videos on that for pre 2005 Honda’s ... in most cases a “reflow” will fix it .. Well Known Honda thing ...

      Turn the key to on for 10 seconds, turn it off. Wait 20 seconds and then turn the key on for 10 seconds, turn it off. Wait 20 and then fire up the engine.

    Yo Bundy, my Man! Great video. My 04' Odyssey starts and then dies immediately. Not a smooth engine cut either, more like an ugly mumbled quick death. Do you think its my pump? Hope you reply. Thanks!

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jt could be but more likely its the fuel pump relay/main relay. Its located under the drivers side dash above the brake pedal.

    • @clarkbingham408
      @clarkbingham408 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I replaced the main relay but it did not fix the problem. I started van twice with new switch but it quickly stalled both times so then I put back in the old switch. Should I have primed the pump more and tried to start the engine more with the new switch? Should I replace the pump? Could it be a bad coil? Thanks!

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here do this. Get some starting fluid. Open up the cover to the air filter. While you crank the engine have some spray the starting fluid down the air snorkel towards the throttle body. If it runs, then you know the fuel pump is bad. If it does not then it’s something else. Are you sure you have spark?

    • @clarkbingham408
      @clarkbingham408 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried out the starting fluid to the throttle body and it ran for only a few seconds and then stalled. Tried it again but it wouldn't start at all. What would cause me to not have spark? How do I check that? Could the Crankshaft Position Sensor be bad? Thanks for the help!

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok while you are cranking the car. Take out the coil pack. Pull it about half an inch away from the spark plug. You should see and hear a loud click of the spark jumping from the coil pack to the spark plug. You can do the exactly same thing with a spark plug and a spark plug wire. You gotta find out if you have spark.
