It's actually worse than a zombie situation because you're alive and not in control of your actions. The fungus controls your muscles which is why the "zombies" are so jerky and uncoordinated.
If you listen to the sound at 21:33, that's the sound used in the game for when you get caught. Such a subtle little detail but pays respect to the game.
Since watching the episode I've watched a few reactions and a lot are comparing the two. I'm with on that part, it's not really something that makes me want to keep watching
@@VerowakReacts I think that so many people make comparisons during their reactions because of how well the series adapted the source material in the game. Adaptations are almost always an "in name only" kind of things where some studio buys the rights to a popular game just so that they can use the name and characters and then completely ignores the actual story. In this case, the first episode is essentially a direct adaptation of the first hour or so of the game right down to pulling specific scenes, camera shots, and even dialogue from the game. When they did add scenes or make minor changes they appear to have been very careful not to be heavy handed with it. The new content actually adds additional context that's not given in the game or helps to smooth out some of the narration for a live action medium. Essentially, the comparisons are because it's a beloved game and everyone figured it would be utterly ruined in the adaptation and everyone is surprised by how extremely faithful it is to the original source material. If you've never played the game it's probably annoying to hear the comparisons but it's definitely not intended that way. People are just very passionate about the game and really happy with the series so far.
@@Minion_of_Cthulhu From experience, I dislike comparisons because it can sour the experience at times(when I did Harry potter, or Star Wars for example). I much prefer treating the two separately. But of course everyone has their own preference.
well thats there personal reaction, when people are attached to a game then of course they will get excited at the prospect of some things being one to one adapted especially when it comes to video game adaptions since they sometimes dont get adapt well. I understand maybe not enjoying people say "thats from the game" all the time but I don't think its something that should be discouraged. its just because they wanna show there enjoyment in some way because its a reaction and since they cant really react to the story cause they already know it, they gotta show in some other way. this may have sounded like im trying to attack u or pointless but i promise i just wanted to rant and get that off my chest ha. but hope you enjoy watching peoples blind reactions!
That "He must be a fungi" comment made me roll my eyes, sigh, and press subscribe XD This story is fantastic and I hope you enjoy the journey! Thank you for the reaction
Then I have succeeded! I was hoping to get some chuckles or eye rolls with my "fungi" comment 😂 I'm already in love with this series, I just have to be patient
Not a gamer either nor am I a “zombie” fan. But man, this show was PHENOMENAL. So. Well. Done. All the way around. Had no idea what to expect and was just blown away. Pedro and Bella? CRUSHED it.
for all intents and purposes they act the same as zombies so it doesnt really matter, but zombies are undead. These people are not, they are infected. So in the game they are referred to as (the) infected
Even if i played the game before, that Sarah part still hit me hard! This is the best videogame adaptation and hopefully this is the start of great videogame adaptations moving forward!
As someone whose played (both) games. It’s so refreshing seeing people who haven’t played it before experience the story! 😊. It’s literally one of the highest rated video games of all time! Loved ep. 1! Can’t wait for the remaining 8!
I've only heard great things about the story in the game and how everyone who has played it has loved it. I'm really looking forward to finally knowing the story lol
So much of the show is an exact copy of the game, including music, clothing, locations, etc. But they also changed a lot as well, so while game players may know the overall story, we don't necessarily know HOW they'll get to the end of the story. And that's assuming the end of the story stays the same. This is going to be a roller coaster for everyone, whether they've played the game or not.
Thank you! I'm really happy to get to see this story. I couldn't play the game since I get motion/simulation sickness so now I'll be able to. Maybe afterwards I'll want to try the game (since it'll be on PC and I can perhaps make it work somehow)
That Sarah died was a misunderstanding. The soldier said on the radio that she was injured but not what kind of injury, Joel didn't either. So the military assumed it was the fungal infestation. It was said on TV that people should stay at home. But people flee and spread the fungus everywhere. The shooting is not nice but understandable. They are not zombies but infected. In the game, they even cry. This means that they are even aware of their actions to a certain extent of infection, while their bodies do what the fungus wants. The only goal for the fungus is to spread. This means that no victim is eaten, but only infected. This happens through the tentacles in the mouth.
Wait is that really her daughter?! If so...wow.. No wonder I kept looking at her curiously like she kinda reminded of someone... especially with her voice inflections.
@@OneMovieTicketPlease yup that’s her daughter Nico, seems she got some good genes from her mom. Did a great job in this so definitely look forward to hopefully seeing more of her in stuff
I am extremely jealous of people who get to experience this story for the first time. I've played both games, loved them and wished I could experience the story for the first time all over again.
My memory kind of wipes itself evey 4 years so I play games from the start again like its the firsr time, I've played TLOU 1 & 2 so many times now, even Resident Evil games.
On the TV we hear something happening in Jakarta. Jakarta is home to the biggest flour mill factory in the world making 4 million tons of flour every year. Sarah and Joel are out of flour for the pancakes, then they decline to eat the neighbors biscuits, later Sarah doesn't eat the cookies cause she finds out they have raisins and not chocolate chips... and finally JOEL FORGOT THE CAKE! The fungus was in the Flour! And they coulda been infected if they ate any one of those things during the day. This is how everything went to hell so quickly. Rather then a virus coming via plane/boat and starts spreading slowly like Covid did. We also don’t know the incubation time if the fungus is eaten so it may take more time before you turn.
FYI, this isn't a typical zombie story. The infected aren't re-animated corpses, they're just humans infected by a parasite. So someone who was shot like Robert isn't going to come back to life as a zombie.
I love seeing the reaction of someone who has not played the game. It will be fun to see your reactions as the story unfolds. I played the game five years ago on the PS4. The show has some differences but captures the story and characters of the game beautifully. The song that plays at the end of the first episode is: "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode released in 1987 -- the Eighties for trouble. The opening lyrics to this song, if you Google these, are amusingly descriptive of the story. This song was not in the game and was a creative addition to the TV show. The song decade codes look like a homage to the game where some of the gameplay involves finding codes to open safes with supplies. One difference with the game is that when Joel and Tess traveled through the building to find the Firefly hideout, they put on gas masks to keep from breathing in fungal spores that are floating in the air. In enclosed areas occupied by "the infected" (not "zombies" per the game lexicon), characters in the game have to wear gas masks to keep from being infected themselves. Ellie doesn't bother with a mask because she is immune. So far, it doesn't look like the show wants to cover actors' faces, so they might have removed this means of infection in the TV series. Also, the game has Joel and Tess in a shootout with the Fireflies before discovering that Joel recognizes Marlene and realizes that he and Tess have accidentally gotten into a shootout with allies. In the TV series, Joel and Tess show up to find a number of Firefly members dead from a shootout that had occurred beforehand. The TV show is leaving out the gameplay parts and filling in other scenes that work just fine.
Watching several blind reactions to this series you almost get a sense of vindication for the developers of the game. Both Part I and Part II are lauded as the pinnacle of video games (at least narrative-driven ones) and to see people who have never played them enjoy the characters and get hooked on the story after only the first episode is a testament to just how good the writing of the original source is. Everyone had notions that an adaption of The Last of Us would work; as long as the right people were at the helm. Craig Mazin who created the Chernobyl mini-series and Neil Druckmann, co-creator and writer of the video game, partnered up and have so far nailed every aspect. They've been faithful to the source material while also fleshing out the story in the best of ways. I hope you get around to playing it once it releases on PC because it's definitely worth it even after knowing the story. With Part II and the remake Part I, the devs have included an abundance of accessibility options so I expect there will be some for you to circumvent your motion sickness issues (fingers crossed!).
I'm hoping it will be playable with motion sickness! I don't know how many seasons The Last of Us will be on for, so I may have to wait a bit before playing it :D I love a good story and video games often times have great characters and interesting universes to explore, so I'm glad an adaptation was made. I'm hoping for more video game adaptations!
So in the game it is spread through spores, but the creators did not want you to have to hear the actors talk through gas masks all the time so in the show it is those fungal tendrils coming out of their mouths that spreads it when they bite. I personally REALLY like this small change :)
The game takes me back 🥲 First discovered it through a friend back in 2014 (PS4 Remaster). The Last of Us is one of those games that I could play over and over, and never get bored. I was worried about how this show would go about but after I watched the first episode, I was not disappointed one bit. I hope I could say the same for the next episodes 🤞
I am in the same boat as you. I never played the game (but I was aware of it). I decided to give the series a try because of Pedro Pascal. He's become one of my favorite actors. I am now hooked on this series. Every aspect, the actors, the story, script, and cinematography is fantastic! Great reaction!
Fun fact, the ongo that causes the pandemic in the game and in the series is real, except today it only affects ants and not humans, great reaction by the way!!! hope you enjoy The Last of us and its story as much as I did when I played it on my PS4❤️
@@VerowakReacts It can't. There's more than just body temperature getting in the way. In addition to our more sophisticated immune systems, cordyceps is highly specialized: each cordyceps species targets a specific arthropod species.
Joel is a broken man due to Sarah. Obviously, he is haunted by his past. The character development in the games is great so the show should be even better with so much more time they can dedicate to it. They did a great job with episode 1.
I think in the earliest stage of the outbreak they didn't have any means of identifying who is sick and who isn't yet. So even if people don't feel sick, the military feels like they can't take any risks at all until they know more. Cruel, but I can see the logic.
I've played both games, the first one being one of my all time favorites, and this series is off to a fantastic start! That prologue was very well executed, I'm enjoying your vibes, you my friend, got a new subscriber 💯
You are in for a ride, the 1st was almost 90% accurate to the game, the car I'm the town was a fake out/nod to the game, in the game that car hits them causing them to flip over, the plane was a nice touch.
@@VerowakReactsI love that they didn't tell us anything. We had to figure out what was going on as the show unfolded. The could have told us that a red screen ment infection, but they showed what happens a few scenes later.
The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Pt. 2 are both masterpieces. I've played them dozens of times and they get better with each playthrough. Thankfully, Naughty Dog Studios, makers of both games, worked closely with HBO and the first episode was fantastic. Here's hoping the rest of the series is just as good.
@@VerowakReacts yes Neil Druckman the writer of the game is co-producer of the show and the other producer Craig Mazin who created Chernobyl I can safely trust as well. There's gonna be a lot of dramatic filled and tear jerking scenes in this series.
@@morbidangel2424 that's a bunch of crap. The only reason people didn't like the second game is because they were unwilling to admit they would have done exactly the same thing she did if they were in her shoes.
@@loonz1969 I think the last of us part 2 is crap from a storytelling point of view in general. It's really disjointed. Also get off your high horse. Don't tell me what my opinions should be.
Another great video game adaptation, hope you enjoy the story, it definitely has plenty of special moments. Get someone to read through and check for spoilers before you do
Based on the fact that this is a drama, and our main characters cannot hear the radio at the end AND 80s means bad, then you can deduct that its probably a song from the 80s (btw it is, and i think its from depeche mode). To create tension.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey both had standout performances in Game of Thrones, but never in a scene together. These two in a team could be a dynamite combination.
Pedro Pascal was such a great Red Viper! And Bella Ramsey was so badass in Game of Thrones, I'm curious to see how they'll do with this show (I'm assuming they'll get more and more amazing)
The first time I played The Last of Us, my wife was watching me as I played it. She was cheering me on, yelling which way to run in the chaos. But when Sarah got shot and died, she was so distraught and crying, I had to turn off the game and try to console her. I told her, she has to remember it's just a game, with fictional characters, but nothing made her feel better, but giving her time to grieve for what she felt she had just witnessed. I ended up playing the game late at night when she was sleeping. Fast forward to now with the show, I mentioned that they made a live action of the game. She stopped me mid sentence and told me not to even mention it to her. Of course I would love to watch it with her, but I remember how upset she was. So I have been watching it by myself. After watching the first episode, I was kind of relieved I didn't try to convince her to watch it with me. She probably would have needed therapy after watching it. The game was phenomenal and the show is TOP NOTCH! Bravo to Naughty Dog and Sony for making such a masterpiece and thank you for sharing your experience while watching the show.
It's very easy to feel empathy for fictional characters, so I get how she could be so affected :D I'm glad you're able to watch it, though it would have been great to watch with your wife for sure
I want to apologize for arguing in the comments , your channel doesn't need that type of negativity and i hope you enjoy the amazing story that is The Last of us as someone who's played the games im very excited to see where the Show is headed.
No worries, at all! The clown that you were arguing with has been blocked from the channel. Your comments were very well appreciated, theirs were the negative ones that aren't needed ❤ This show is amazing I'm so curious about the story!!
Also its a 1h20m episode, im pretty sure everyone would love a longer reaction 😁 just a little feedback or wish rather. I know you do your best and its not easy, dont worry.
I'm used to reducing a 3h movie into 45 min so a 1h20 episode was done in the same fashion. I'll definitely try in the next episodes to make it a bit longer haha
Coryceps is the fungus which is a real fungus that takes control of insects and some small mammals this same way but isn't strong enough to survive in humans. But if it ever evolved.... The Last of Us.
I knew there was a fungus/parasite that could control insects and small mammals. Would definitely be terrifying if it evolves to survive in humans... hopefully not while I'm alive at least
Atleast that fungus doesn't make the insects attack other insects, it only controls them mindlessly looking for food, and then when it dies it spreads out of them and infects others. So if the cortyceps went for humans, it would be easy to control and the people infected wouldn't be violent, still a scary thought tho.
Welcome to the last of us family and I have played both games and they both have amazing stories and if you want to after the show end look up gameplay of both games.
The Last of Us, has a expansion, which works as a bit of a flashback and there's also The Last of Us 2, which takes place after the first game. The games are extremely well done, multi award winning and clearly very popular. Now there are some who did not like The Last of Us 2, but that's mostly not due to anything with the gameplay itself. There were some story elements they did not agree with. But that's their problem. It's a well crafted story. Neil Druckmann didn't all of sudden forget how to write when the first game sold like hotcakes.
So I have to say, congratulations on not saying the standard TH-cam saying of " without further Adieu "... I was so relieved and good job on the intro!!
No the dead don't get infected, this isn't the Walking Dead, lol. You get infected by getting bit. In the game you could also get infected by breathing in spores, but they removed that element in the show because realistically spores would be airborne and would infect everyone.
@@VerowakReacts Sorry if I was a little rude when you laughed at Doc's death in your Back to the Future reaction. I just wanted to see more of your human side. This reaction let me. So thanks for sharing.
The thing is that the fungus is more of a bread and flour thingy...Which is why the addler's got sick cuz the grandma ate the cookie whereas sarah joel and tommy did not eat nor pancakes nor cookies(they were raisin) nor the cake...So yeah.. Great vid btw
I've never played the game myself, and all I know is that it was "spooky" which I would say, CHECK. I came also for the Pedro but was happy to see Gabriel Luna as Tommy (he was in Agents of SHIELD)! Nice surprise. And Bella / Pedro from Game of Thrones. Anyway - What an opener! I am hooked, I cried, it was so unsettling in so many ways. My biggest gripe for me was not knowing how it spreads and feeling a bit confused by all that. Hopefully explained in a later episode. Anyway, excited for more!
Definitely checks the spooky part!! The actors are doing fantastic and yeah it feels at times I'm confused too and hope that it will be explained further. It seems they're doing an amazing job with the show though so I feel it'll all make sense in the end
This show made me a huge Pedro fan and now I will watch anything he is in….anything lol. So I love what u said at the beginning. I’m really glad I decided to watch the show, simply based on all the hype around it and being intrigued by apocalyptic stories. I didnt know pedro pascal existed before it and I’m like ‘where have I been??’.
This show, moving forward; should be the benchmark for show-runners adapting video games. I can hardly think of anything they could have done better. Great reaction and so pumped for more :D
NO SPOLIERS HERE! Yeah, Joel's watch broke again when he fell the night Sarah died. So, every time he looks at it now he is reminded of the exact time. One of the major changes from the game is the way people can get infected. In the game, when an infected reaches the final stage (the thing on the wall) they release spores when they die and these float in the air to infect others, making the carrying of gas masks required. For live action filming, gas masks on your actors aren't ideal so spores were replaced with the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of an infected 'runner' (first stage infected). As for Ellie's back story; the story of Ellie and Riley begins in the comic 'The Last of Us: American Dreams' and in the DLC 'Left Behind' which will be gone through in a later episode.
@@VerowakReacts yeah I didn't know either lol one of my best friends (who's from there) told me all about it, he wanted to audition to be an extra, but it was nowhere near him, however, one of his friends auditioned and is now an extra on the show. Exciting stuff!
Sarah's death in game is pure shock. Her and Ellie's models are pretty similar, not too similar, but still. If you go to the game blindly, you think "oh, it's a father/daughter game, she's probably gonna dye her hair cause they'll be hiding from sm1 or whatever". You play as her, until her leg prevents her from moving forward and then you switch to Joel. Less than 20 minutes in, she dies exactly as in this episode, and you're left with tears and disbelief. "She's the main character, WTF???" I still cried my eyes out at this scene. Perfect adaptation. I always knew this was more than just a game.
Hey, Verowak! The premiere is scrupulously faithful to the game in every way including story, dialogue, production design, wardrobe, props and characters. A few embellishments like the 1968 prologue, the elderly neighbors, the wandering boy and the FEDRA guard customer actually add context and enhance the drama. Neil Druckmann, who created the game, is producing the show and HBO is obviously letting him influence the production. Craig Mazin, the showrunner, previously produced "Chernobyl". That wasn't a clump of hair in the old lady's mouth but fungal tendrils. As John Hannah's scientist explained, the fungi seeks to propagate so these zombies don't feed on you but instead seek to transmit the spore aggressively. As the cordyceps fungi blooms it erupts out of the central nervous system of the host in several horrific stages ultimately rendering the body into a moldy tableau plastered to the wall. The spores were airborne in the game requiring the use of gas masks in areas of high concentration but the show will be dispensing with that since an airborne contaminant would have afflicted everyone in 20 years except those in hermetically sealed rooms. That's the reason for the vector being fungal tendrils extending from the mouths of the infected in the show. The increased temperature serving as a catalyst was a new explanation provided in the show to reference the issue of climate change. The actress playing Marlene, Merle Dandridge, actually portrayed the same character in the game! The '60's scientist was played by John Hannah known for "Four Weddings and a Funeral", the Brendan Fraser "Mummy" franchise, "Spartacus" and "Agents of SHIELD". Anna Torv, who plays Tess, is best known for "Fringe". Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are both "Game of Thrones" alums known for Prince Oberyn and Lyanna Mormont, respectively. Pascal is, of course, Din Djarin as well from "The Mandalorian". Uncle Tommy is played by Gabriel Luna who portrayed the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider in "Agents of SHIELD". Nico Parker, who stole the show as Sarah, is Thandie Newton's daughter! The video game is one of the most extraordinary journeys you can take that will haunt you forever. The sequel is highly controversial but even darker and deeper than the original!
As someone who played the game when it first came out, I do kinda envy people who came into this show without knowing anything and experience the full emotions that this show throws at you. But despite, this show still WRECKS you even if you know what going to happen 😭😭 but it's also interesting to see people react to the first part of this episode, it was basically how it was when people who played the first few minutes of the game... T_T
I feel like having played the game would be worse since you're just waiting for events to unfold and be wrecked by them. You know what happens to Sarah so you have half an episode of anticipation 😨😭
This game is a masterpiece. The story drives it. Gameplay is what you'd expect but it was definitely cutting edge at the time. The scarcity of ammo and weapons, danger lurking around the corner, etc. But the STORY is gold. It's about losing your humanity and then regaining it in the most unlikely of situations. As a father, I cried every time I watched the Sarah scene in the game. Seeing it in a live action show, it reopened the wound and poured salt in it. This show is going to be amazing. The music deserves a big nod as well. It's perfect. It's ripped from the games at times but at other times it's been performed differently but made more impactful. Same composer. I couldn't be happier. HBO and Naughty Dog really create something special here.
It does seem like the game could be scary. I'm so interested in knowing the story since there are lots of post-apocalyptic stories, but I don't know what this one will be like. Oh I wanted to look up the composer, and it's even better that it's the same from the games!!
9:45 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out. The song is Depeche Mode - Never let me down again from 1987
I don’t know if you got it or not but a lot of people doesn’t understand the purpose of the scene with Sarah in school with the kid twitching, but muscle spasm and coughing are two signs of cordyceps infection, it’s in the sign that the infected little boy looks at so it’s to show that the infection is already spread. 5:20 Most likely he saved that woman from an infected… Joel, Sarah and Tommy were so close to get infected but luckily they didn’t because they didn’t consume anything with flour. Sarah wanted to make pancakes for Joel's breakfast, but didn't have the right ingredients, so made eggs instead. Their neighbours offered them both biscuits as they left their house in the morning, with Joel declining the offer saying he is on the Atkins diet. Then, when Sarah visits the same neighbours later that day, she is offered some freshly baked cookies. Lastly, Joel forgot to pick up a cake for his birthday. Their neighbours who had been eating the biscuits and cookies, however, were, resulting in one of the most unnerving moments with the old lady twitching out of focus and later with the cordyceps in her mouth and it wasn’t in the game. I loved those scenes I like a lot of the changes they did with the show. For example, the spores are not in this and they went with the original concept art before the spores called “the tendrils”. Realistically all the spores would be in the air so everyone would be dead or the infected would run out of spores to spread, and they wouldn’t be just in some zones. Realistically they would still have spores in the hair and clothes, it would be impossible so I love it this way more because it’s more realistic and TLOU is very grounded and realistic, so it makes more sense like this and also the tendrils makes the infected EVEN MORE creepy and show how all of them are connected so I love it. "There's things that work in the game that would just not work in the show," Druckmann. And how the infection works. In the game it takes like two days to turn, in here like they showed in the scene with the little boy in the sign if you get bitten in the leg being the farthest part to the brain it takes a lot of hours or a day so it makes more sense, then torso, shoulders and hands, it takes some hours and then head it takes minutes and that makes it even more scarier, I love it. The plane scene is WAY better in my opinion, is more tense and more cinematic so I like this more than just the car crash. All the new scenes we got are good and expanded on what was already an amazing story, especially the opening scene with how realistic and scary they made it sound. Everyone in the cast is perfect, and the scene after Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught I love how Joel had PTSD, it made the scene more emotional and shows that Joel will do anything for those he loves…putting it out there since the beginning👀 By far the most faithful live action adaptation and with only the first 30m of the episode it was the best adaptation. Amazing pilot episode! 10/10 I love it.
Just be careful searching TH-cam "The Last of us" the game has been around so long you might find a thumbnail title with a obvious game spoiler. People have done a lot of playthroughs over the years.
Yes the Fireflies are like the resistance group since the US is under a military dictatorship. The time line for the show was changed a bit, the outbreak in the game starts in 2013(year the game was released) and the 20 year jump takes you to 2033. In the show the outbreak occurs in 2003 and the jump brings us to 2023.

I am a super fan of the game. And I wanted that TV show so bad. but now that I've seen the acting and knowing what is coming, I DON'T WANT THE TV SHOW ANYMORE, I'M GONNA LOSE MY SOUL BECAUSE OF THIS SHOW!
The last scene was awesome 😂 the music the clicker sound the lighting... Wasn't the best scene obviously.. sarah dying and the PTSD flashback was but the final cut really got me ready for what's to come...
First one is a really really good game. And was highly praised by pretty much everyone who played it. The second one, while incredibly successful, really split the community. A lot of players didn’t like the characters and where the story went.
Both games were awarded as the most awarded game in gaining history during their times. The last of us 2 is still the most is awarded by breaking that record of the first game for most game of the year awards. But the first game is absolutely better lol 2nd is a great game as well but yeah.. It's not favorable events
@@VerowakReacts It should be noted though, that a large part here is amplified by the whole gamergate incel community. They still, for more than two years now, daily, are continuously hating on the franchise in certain communities about the game's "woke agenda". They even harassed "Girlfriends Review" for one of their videos about the sequel, by making up fake threats to create public outrage and got caught in doing so by GR themselves (it was all some lone polish dude who ended up deleting all of his accounts and even his own private email account). You can find a video about that on their YT channel. They are already hating on the show as well, ever since the cast & first trailer came out, calling Bella Ramsey a "thing" (because apparently she's not a hot enough 14 year old girl) and are mad about how they "replaced the white people" of the main cast… Part 2 is a great game & story, but it's even more brutal than the first one. It is sad that so many people refuse to understand the story, character developments and the reasons behind them, and that they have so much hate that they can spent years of energy on shitting on it like that without moving on. As for Part 1, the PC version will actually come out in just a couple months time. I personally have only watched it on YT, but around 7 times, including the DLC, and the sequel around 2-3 times. They're great, but will leave you emotionally scarred.
@@Dark__Thoughts OH yeah there are some people who will be butthurt about changes or casting that they personally don't like. Some people will never be happy, and I tend to just ignore those 🤣

@@LoZenith75 I don't know about that. You can only have one of them for the first time. I played both games over and over again and when i watched the show, i somehow wished i would not know the games, so i could enjoy the TV show unspoiled. They are two very different experiences and after this first episode i find it very hard to decide wich one to prefer. But to be honest, i believe you can still get much enjoyment from the game after watching the show, because, yes, you know the story, but there is still such a new layer to it by doing it yourself. But if you play the game first and then watch the show after it, you already know whats happening but you can only be a passive witness, you don't interact. So something is missing in comparison.
That last song was from Depeche Mode, "Never Let Me Down Again" (1987). I had their album, in HS, from when it came out.
Great reaction.
Uh oh. That means there's trouble!
Oh that's so awesome! I love little easter eggs and paying homage to games like that
OMG, I haven't noticed that!!
good catch!
i didn't even know
When the part of the plane hit the car, you can hear the death sound of the game too.
I like watching reactions of people who haven’t played the game because they aren’t constantly comparing it
Since watching the episode I've watched a few reactions and a lot are comparing the two.
@@VerowakReacts Totally understandable.
well thats there personal reaction, when people are attached to a game then of course they will get excited at the prospect of some things being one to one adapted especially when it comes to video game adaptions since they sometimes dont get adapt well.
OMG, opening with a pun right out of the gate! 😆
Turns out puns are perfect for this series! 🤣
That "He must be a fungi" comment made me roll my eyes, sigh, and press subscribe XD This story is fantastic and I hope you enjoy the journey! Thank you for the reaction

Infected works great, I couldn't think of something aside from zombies :D
Even if i played the game before, that Sarah part still hit me hard! This is the best videogame adaptation and hopefully this is the start of great videogame adaptations moving forward!
I can just imagine how it must be KNOWING that the Sarah part will happen 😭

So far, it's definitely a rollercoaster and I would be surprised if it stopped mellowed out lol
that sarah part hits every time man
I know it'll hit me just as hard and maybe more when I rewatch the show
This game is very special to me! It's really cool seeing a whole new audience get introduced to The Last of Us! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time!
Thank you! I'm really happy to get to see this story. I couldn't play the game since I get motion/simulation sickness so now I'll be able to. Maybe afterwards I'll want to try the game (since it'll be on PC and I can perhaps make it work somehow)
It's wild seeing people experience it for the first time when it's been a part of me for a decade.
@@Nosfermarki I think it's great that they're telling the story for people who haven't been able to experience the games!
Thaddie Newtons daughter was absolutely fantastic as Sarah. Looks so much like her mom, and as talented.
She really did absolutely fantastic!
That would be so amazing if we were able to completely forget some games/movies/stories to experience them for the first time again
If only we could forecably develop Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Oh wait…
@@zoxfalcon2510 I'll wait for nature to take its course
Refreshing to watch someone who doesn't know the story. You're in for a hell of a ride!
I'm so excited to see what this ride is all about!
FYI, this isn't a typical zombie story. The infected aren't re-animated corpses, they're just humans infected by a parasite. So someone who was shot like Robert isn't going to come back to life as a zombie.
i love the relationship between Ellie and Joel. I played to this game, so i know.
I'll be trying the game after a few more patches on the PC port lol. Ellie and Joel were amazing in the series
"I don't know anything about TLOU" Perfect !

Amazing Episode, Amazing Reaction - Joel & Sarah's scene is so heartbreaking - both in-game and now in live action - overall, a phenomenal episode!
I feel like the anticipation of the scene for people who have played the game was intense and heartbreaking from the beginning of the episode
@Verowak Reacts Yeah, well said, the scene also reflects what is happening in real life - pandemic, war, etc. - that's why it hurts so much -
I love seeing the reaction of someone who has not played the game.
I'm sure there are certain moments where everyone who has played the game will be waiting with anticipation then I'll get completely blind sided 😂
Games that can be replayed are so fantastic! Hopefully the series doesn't disappoint you so you can play the game while watching the series too
I am in the same boat as you. I never played the game (but I was aware of it). I decided to give the series a try because of Pedro Pascal. He's become one of my favorite actors. I am now hooked on this series. Every aspect, the actors, the story, script, and cinematography is fantastic! Great reaction!

OMG yeeessss! I havent played the games either, and i loved the first episode. Soon ill watch your reaction, CANNOT WAIT!
Oooh!! We're in the same boat for loving the first episode AND not playing the games 😊

It doesn't infect mammals btw. No fungus does this to mammals...at least not yet

Welcome to the last of us family and I have played both games and they both have amazing stories and if you want to after the show end look up gameplay of both games.
I do love a great story. I'm also curious to see how they differ from the series and the games
Thanks for the reaction.

Oh, he must be a "Fun-Gi" grooooooooooaaaaan!!! carry on, I won't "pun-ish" any more jokes. :)
I don't say too many puns... But sometimes they sprout out of nowhere
Also, fun fact: this was filmed in Canada
I didn't know it was filmed in Canada! Probably not near me
@@VerowakReacts yeah I didn't know either lol one of my best friends (who's from there) told me all about it, he wanted to audition to be an extra, but it was nowhere near him, however, one of his friends auditioned and is now an extra on the show.
"She's the main character, WTF???"
I still cried my eyes out at this scene. Perfect adaptation. I always knew this was more than just a game.
Yes! First reactor I watch that mention the "hardcore drugs" part.
Don't worry, everyone has been crying at that scene for 10 years

2:18 I've made it all the way to work like that and had a coworker tell me. Glad they were a cool coworker 😂
The song is Depeche Mode - Never let me down again from 1987
I love how the series is great for those who have played the game AND those who haven't! The casting is top notch so far
"Funguy" You are gonna love Ellie
Ellie is amazing!!!
5:20 Most likely he saved that woman from an infected…
Joel, Sarah and Tommy were so close to get infected but luckily they didn’t because they didn’t consume anything with flour. I loved those scenes
I like a lot of the changes they did with the show.
Everyone in the cast is perfect, and the scene after Joel, Ellie and Tess gets caught I love how Joel had PTSD, it made the scene more emotional and shows that Joel will do anything for those he loves…putting it out there since the beginning👀
By far the most faithful live action adaptation and with only the first 30m of the episode it was the best adaptation. Amazing pilot episode! 10/10 I love it.
Just be careful searching TH-cam "The Last of us" the game has been around so long you might find a thumbnail title with a obvious game spoiler. People have done a lot of playthroughs over the years.
Definitely will be extra careful when looking things up on the internet :)
The US doesn't exist anymore. It's separated quarantine zones that are under military dictatorship.
@Dark Thoughts perhaps you're right. I was under the impression that FEDRA was whatever was left of the Federal government.
@@Murph_gaming FEDRA was the Federal Disaster Response Agency which basically are in charge of the QZs under martial law. One could argue that they're what is left of society but I think at that state of the world they're just like other groups of the mentioned raiders & slavers (there's others but I won't spoil those).
Lady: "People out there need to get right with Jesus."
Verowak: "Has she been fungus'd?"

You've just gained a new subscriber, great review energy you display...
Episode 1 was a clear winner for me.
I love love the TLOU video games, the show IMO is really interesting how it builds and builds, making the most of its dialogue as well, the broken landscape is amazing too👌 I'm really enjoying it thus far... I'm 3 Epi's in waiting for Epi 4 tomorrow (Sunday)...
BTW The ponytails rock 👌👏
Welcome! I absolutely love this series and every episode so far! Episode 3 actually became my favorite episode of any tv series ever, it's just so incredibly amazing
Really liked your reaction, gonna subscribe, here are some good recomendations: Weak Hero Class 1 and All Of Us Are Dead.
Continue the great job!
Salve from Brazil! 🇧🇷
Thank you, I've never heard of those, I'll have to look into them
Awesome video I just subscribed it's always cool to see a reaction from someone that's never played the games 🙌, also yeah The Last of Us is a amazing game in my opinion it's one of the best games ever 🤘🔥
I've only heard good things about the game, and I'm so curious to see what will happen!!
@@VerowakReacts yeah it's a great game and it's awesome things that's all I'll say 😏 🤫
I am a super fan of the game. And I wanted that TV show so bad. but now that I've seen the acting and knowing what is coming, I DON'T WANT THE TV SHOW ANYMORE, I'M GONNA LOSE MY SOUL BECAUSE OF THIS SHOW!
sweet how you got emotional
I love how people go from don't stop Joel you can't take the risk to, why did you shoot them you didn't know if they were sick
The last scene was awesome 😂 the music the clicker sound the lighting... Wasn't the best scene obviously.. sarah dying and the PTSD flashback was but the final cut really got me ready for what's to come...
This episode really set the tone for the rest of the season! Definitely made me want to watch more lol
Another great wordplay (fun guy)...HOW did i not see this coming? :dd
It's good that I can surprise you :D
I remember seeing the opening in the game for the first time and just being absolutely speechless. i mean man did it blindside so many people
I've always heard how amazing the game is, I'm glad the TV series is also amazing and so well done
Always loot the bodies, yes.
Like I said I'm new to your channel, but your already moving in to my too 10
THe one time you don't look the body, you KNOW that body had all the good stuff
Right.
First one is a really really good game. And was highly praised by pretty much everyone who played it. The second one, while incredibly successful, really split the community. A lot of players didn’t like the characters and where the story went.
At least one thing that everyone liked with Part 2 is the playable flashbacks with Joel and Ellie right?
Huh, very interesting, now I feel more tempted to try the games after the series :D
They are already hating on the show as well, ever since the cast & first trailer came out, calling Bella Ramsey a "thing" (because apparently she's not a hot enough 14 year old girl) and are mad about how they "replaced the white people" of the main cast…
Part 2 is a great game & story, but it's even more brutal than the first one.
Some people will never be happy, and I tend to just ignore those 🤣
Subbed to your channel
Welcome!!
The games are amazing part 1 and part 2
I've heard good things, might see if I can play them after the series
@@VerowakReacts play the game AFTER the series? Spoiling everything? Sorry but for me it has no sense. Maybe it would have been better to play the game BEFORE to watch the series... just saying....
@@LoZenith75 That's where everyone is different. Plus I don't even know if I CAN play the game, odds are I can't
