    You need to hear the next piece Rhayader and Rhayader Goes to Town are essentially one track, and are always played together live.

    I agree that Rhayader and Rhayader Goes to Town should be listened to together, but I'd go further and say you need to listen to the whole album.
    The Snow Goose story is a book, by Paul Gallico, but it was also made into a movie starring Jenny Agutter; it's on TH-cam if you search for snow goose agutter.
    There's also a version with Spike Milligan narrating and the London Symphony Orchestra. Neither the movie nor the narrated version are related to the Camel concept album, as far as I'm aware; but I've not seen the latter yet so I can't be sure.

    Need to listen to the whole thing. It’s a instrumental concept album. Their guitar player and founder, Andy Latimer is one of the most underrated players on earth. Anything from Camel is great, including a rare double album with the King Crimson sax playing with them. Great live!!!

    It's Rhayader with 2 a's. Based upon the book by Paul Gallico, no lyrics due to copyright issues. Camel was a somewhat underrated prog band. Very melodic and superb guitar by Andy Latimer.,

    One of those SEAMLESS Instrumental Concept masterpieces that is definitively worth listening to in its entirety. I don't think I've ever heard a singular song until now! I spend my coldest winters in Ohio at college in the 70's and loved experiencing this during those freezing but beautiful winter days / nights. Great to hear you continuing to expand your Prog Universe horizons. CAMEL are one of the top 10 legends that created a signature cool smooth deeply melodic & always upliftingly heartwarming sound all their own that satisfied particular moods. The Camel cigs font wasn't always used as their logo style. As a marketing ploy for their next album their Label's Management, used the cigarette box art to promote the "MIRAGE" album to the band's dismay but during those days it probably helped because as a Progband, one needed extra publicity I remember finding it amusing back when smoking wasn't taboo.

    Good to see you falling into another huge rabbit hole L33! Camel, great band, with some unforgettable 'concept' albums. As for their origin, may I suggest you dig out and read a novella by Paul Gallico, an American second world-war news correspondent, who based his book on Dunkirk and the small boats criss-crossing the English Channel during the war. All will become clear!

    The story is set in 1940, during the second world war and part of it is about the rescue of British soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk (hence the British expression "Dunkirk spirit." i.e. keep going no matter how bad stuff gets.)
    I heard the band play the whole album live in London in1975 and you really need to experience it in one sitting. The track Dunkirk is much heavier, describing the warfare. The band blinded the audience with spotlights when it started to rock out. Play that one really loud!!!! Most of the album is more melodic and very beautiful.

    FWIW, I've usually heard it pronounced "rye-A-der". Camel were a talented band that didn't try to out-flash bands like ELP or Yes. Their early period (which this falls into) saw them stretching out with instrumentals and jamming more often than in later years. Guitarist Andy Latimer was a double-and-a-half-threat. He played a mean guitar, could also play flute and recorders, and sang (although his singing is an acquired taste for some.) Peter Bardens, the keyboard player (who had connections to the Fleetwood Mac camp) would also sing occasionally (again, with mixed results.) BTW, that logo got them into deep trouble when they started out. Their second album Mirage -- the one they had hopes would break them into the USA -- had to be released in the states with a different cover because the cigarette company threatened to sue. Re: recommendations for future listens, I'll throw "Lunar Sea", "Skylines" or "The Sleeper" into the mix, all phenomenal instrumentals from the next three albums.

      @L33Reacts  10 หลายเดือนก่อน
