This just in: Chevrons were used for a soldiers fulfilling term service known in the NVA as 'Soldat und Unteroffizier auf Zeit' were enlisted and non-commissioned officers that served a commitment for three years but could be authorized to serve up to ten years in the armed forces. So in short, Only Soldiers and NCOs temporarily in the military while being in their fulfillment term would have worn that.
Term enlisted personnel were authorized to attend courses to become non-commissioned officers which was an option not extended to conscript personnel. Term enlisted could obtain the rank of Sergeant and Term Officers could obtain the rank of Captain.

This is a uniform used by Felix Dzerzhinsky guards regiment (wachregiment), but not by stasi itself. Stasi agents didn't have some standard set of uniform.

He asked me all sorts of questions in a very friendly tone. My cousin was trying to drag me away as I blabbed on how we were driving everywhere and how much I loved the DDR. I think my NVA visor cap is actually enlisted man's hat because it's made of a flat wool, similar to the tunic, and it isn't really stretched, it sags a little, and doesn't have an upturn in the back, as well as the fact that it's supposed to be an original. I'm unsure about the legitimacy of the hat.
It's likely fine. Usage were made differently depending on the area and the factory. The physical condition of the bag is probably do to it being crushed or mistreated in storage.

I've looked around a lot of places, but nowhere is really clear on what to purchase in order to make my uniform as historically accurate as possible. I currently have an NCO's hat, a coat with the correct insignia and 10 years of service medal, and the pants with olive green highlights. Everywhere I've looked has been unclear on what awards to get, what belt and boots to get, and which insignia to get. If any of you could reply with what belt, boots, medals, shirt, tie and anything else to get, that would help me out immensely. I am a new uniform collector and have no idea what to get. The uniform size is M48 and 1856 N. The inside stamps of the jacket say M 48 1856 A/1, and the pants say 1856 M 48-0 1/D. Thank you very much.
I don't know which is worse, going to Germany in an SS Allgemeine uniform, going to Germany in an East German uniform (probably not as bad as we would think, probably would just get some confused looks" or going to Germany wearing a Soviet Uniform.

I just don't like it when they act like human statues and they spray paint the whole uniform to make it look like concrete. There's only so many of these uniforms yet and I've only seen the winter combat jacket in reproduction, albeit in limited quantities
