Can you use that one set of chips forever? I mean, for as long as you refill the cartridges well before they run out, are they going to last forever without changing the chips?
Now I'm getting doesn't recognize cartridge..I took them out several times and put them back in, even turned it off for a few minutes still same message. What do I need to do? Thank you
If you still have the original Epson cartridges, take the chips off the refillable cartridges and place them back on the original ink. See if you still get the same error message with those cartridges.
so, I just bought the WF-7820 this week and just got my refillable cartridges from Dynamite Gorilla, I did everything exactly in the video (except for I didn't wear gloves when swapping out the cartridges) my refillable cartridges registered fine in the printer, but none of the cartridges are printing ink, maybe a tiny bit comes out and so far I have done about 10 print head cleanings with no luck. Hi. Thanks for the video. Am I able to print regularly with the sub ink? Am I able to switch back n forth from my refillable ink to factory cartridges?
Hi Shaolin, yes you can. However, you would need two sets of cartridges and chips. Probably not recommended until a chipless driver or reset chips come out for that printer. You'll end up spending a lot of money on just the chips by doing that.
Good morning I have the wf7840 and this is my second time changing the chips. Now the printer isn't recognizing the cartridge do anyone know how to fix this?
I have a 3 part question: Do you need a new chip for every time you use a new cartridge or do you use the same chip but new cartridge or refill the same cartridge with the same chip.
Do u remove any of the rubber stoppers on the cartridges?? I just bought this printer and filled the ink cartridges and now the printer wont print any ink. No errors from the chip change so in wondering if i need to remove the little stopper so the ink can flow (if that makes sense lol)
Hi Lee, I followed your steps for the initial set-up and installed the cartridges but the printer isn't seeing the black cartridge, any suggestions on what to do to get it to work?
Hi Natalie, here are some steps that you can try to resolve that issue. Take the Black ink cartridge out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the black ink again.
@@rtobis64 hi, I ended up purchasing a new black and it worked. For some reason, and it may happen to you I decided to run the initialisation before removing the chip, in case it didn’t work and I’d have paid for this new cartridge. It ran the initialisation and once successful I removed the chip and put on the blank, then ran the test pages. So far so good! One thing though remember to shake the original cartridge before inserting, I forgot to do that and so while the printer recognised it as the original cartridge it immediately said low ink, and once it read it on that chip I couldn’t get it to change
They sell remanufactured 812 cartridges on Amazon. Does that mean the company’s are resetting chips or do they use new chips? I wonder if they would just sell chips and not the filled cartridges.

WHY did 3rd party CISS makers think it was a good idea to use skinny tubes and fake ink carts in a CISS instead of fat tubes and dampers? interesting tidbit, if you remove the dampers from an ecotank, it has slots that will fit real ink cartridges (although you should not do this, no reason to), but the fact that a 3rd party could easily make dampers to fit a 7610 or 7840 and accommodate fat tubes in a CISS, but chose not to is mind boggling.. what were they thinking???
Hello, ty for sharing. I followed the steps u provided with the same empty cartridges u have. But when I replaced the chip on to the new cartridge my Epson WF 7820 will not read the chips. What am I doing wrong?
I though the chip was independent of how much ink was in the cartridge. Therefore, how do you hack the chip over and over? I'd hate to think you had to purchase new Epson cartridges, every time you wanted to refill the refillable ones. Please explain. Thanks so much!
You would indeed need to purchase new cartridges each time the ink runs out if you continue using traditional Epson cartridges. Given this inconvenience and ongoing expense, I would recommend considering a different type of printer. One good alternative is the Epson EcoTank ET-15000, which features large, easily refillable ink tanks instead of traditional cartridges. This model significantly reduces the hassle and cost of constant cartridge replacement, making it a more convenient and economical choice.
@@LeeLeesCraft So I'm still confused. Please explain what the advantage of using the refillable cartridges is? By transferring the chips from new/unused Epson ink cartridges, to empty aftermarket ones, then paying yet even more money to refill them with aftermarket ink....what exactly have I gained? No problem. The only reason I would say the st-4000 is because of the scanner. If its the only scanner that you have then that'll be useful. However, if you had another available scanner than i would say the f-170.
Hi! Do I have to change all cartridges at the same time? Currently my black ink is empty so I bought an original cartridge and swapped the chip but the replacement won’t read.

I converted my printer this morning and it said the Cyan ink cartridge wasn't able to be recognized. I went to the store to buy another one and that chip doesn't seem to be working either. Do you know why it may not be working? Thank you.
What size refillable cartridges are you using? I bought a 7840 BUT purchased refillable cartridges for the 7820 on accident. The size is different and it didn’t seem like it would fit in the printer. What kind of refillable cartridges should I buy?
Hi Kristen, that is interesting because the 7840 and the 7820 are the same printer. The 7840 just holds more paper. They both use the same ink cartridges. I order my empty cartridges from here: www.dynamitegorilla.com/product-page/802xl-refillable-cartridge-set-no-chips If you scroll down you will see that the cartridge fits both of those printers.
Hello. I just purchased a 7820 am I able to use as a regular printer before converting? Can I remove the original ink cartridges before I completely use them? The empty ink cartridges I purchased, from Etsy, already came with chips for the 6820. So I don’t need to chips from these ink cartridges.
Hi Lory, i would test the cartridges that you purchased that came with the chips to make sure that they work on the 7820. If the chips on those cartridges work then yes you would be able to use it as a regular printer first since you won't be needing the chips off those original cartridges. After you test the cartridges can you let me know how they work out?
I have the 7820 and I bought the refillable ink and cartridges, after switching out the chips and I use all the ink, can I just fill the cartridges back up and still use the same chips?
Hi Cynthia, if you are using the chips from the original cartridges that came with the printer, those cartridges are what they consider a starter pack. So the chips are programed to show very limited ink inside the cartridge. So once the chip shows that its empty the printer will show as empty regardless of how much ink is inside the cartridge. You'll need to purchase another set of epson ink.
Unfortunately, there isn't anything that can be done if the chips are reading low. It doesn't matter how much ink is actually in the cartridge. It's all about the chips and there isn't a chip reset available for that printer at this time.
I actually do not know the answer to that question. So i have reached out to the company to get that answer for you. I will let you know as soon as i hear back from them.
Hi. Do you have to keep changing the chips every time your printer reads empty? If so, is there a chip resetter that you would recommend? If not, does this mean that I would need to buy new ink cartridges and take the chips off of them every time? Please advise. Your video worked for me with no issues. I just refilled the cartridges though and the printer still says it’s empty...! Let me know. Thanks. Have a blessed day.
Hi Quantina, Yes, for now you would have to keep changing chips every time the printer says that the cartridge is empty. Unfortunately there isn't a chip resetter for these chips at the moment or chipless driver for that printer. There are several companies working on both.
Thank you so much for replying so quickly. I appreciate all your help. I ordered from your site link on this video for the sublimation ink and black cartridges about a month or so ago. Great quality. Thank you very much. Hope they make a chip resetter for these. Thanks again. Take care.
I installed new chips last week in my wf 7840 for the first time and after only 12 prints the magenta cartridge is having a chip error. Saying cannot recognize cartridge. Any suggestions? I have about 80 shirts I need to have ready within 10 days.
Hi Sophia, unfortunately no. Once the chips registers that a certain amount of ink has been used it will display low/empty. Even if you try to fill the cartridge while they half full.
I made my first print onto 11x17 and it left a large white stripe down the center of the paper where it didn't print anything. The part of the design on the right and left side printed nice. Any idea why the entire design wouldn't print?
For now i am just keeping them around. Hopefully in the future after a chipless driver for the printer comes out i'll be able to use it if i need to print with regular ink.
Just a heads up, if you are planning on printing large prints without a print-less driver or chip reset for that printer, replacing the chips can get expensive.
@@LeeLeesCraft This is something I've been meaning to research. It's good to know that refillable ink is an option, but I was worried that with every refill you would need to put in new chips and but a whole new set of ink.
Hello I’m having issues with my printer reading my black ink. It keeps saying my ink is low but I have plenty of black in my cartridge. Any suggestions?
Hi Kena, chances are that the chip on the black needs to be replaced. It doesn't matter how full the cartridge is. Once the chip registers that it has used the amount of ink that it came with it will display as low/empty.
You can try this, It has worked for some people but not for everyone. Take the cartridge that is not being recognized out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again.
@@LeeLeesCraft so I’m not able to fill them before they are empty, while using the same chips. Thanks for responding. My husband and I got this printer and are hoping for a conversion kit.
Sissybug, you're welcome. If you refill the cartridge before its empty the chip will still register the cartridge as empty when it goes through the amount that it is programmed to handle.
I didn't see a link where you get your registration cartridges from. Curious where you got it since the ink quality doesn't matter since we are only using the chip
Nice video, If this works so good for the Epson printer what about an HPs Or other printers. I got rid of my HP 4470 because I can't afford the ink. (i'm only on SS) If the chips come off that easy, must you keep doing this for each cartridge purchase, or can you just reuse those and keep refilling them? Man, It's all about saving money so we all can afford to run our printers. Thanks again for the great video. (I only wish this was a tank printer)
Thank you for watching the video and for your great question! Unfortunately, the technique of removing and reusing chips varies significantly between printer brands and models. For HP printers like your former HP 4470, the situation can be more challenging than with some Epson models because HP often updates its firmware to restrict the use of non-HP or refilled cartridges. For most printers, once a chip registers a cartridge as empty, it cannot be reset or reused as is. This means that in most cases, you would need to purchase new cartridges or explore methods to reset the chip, which, it's important to note, is not always possible. Given your focus on affordability, looking into printers like the Epson EcoTank or other tank-based printers might be more cost-effective in the long run. These printers do not use traditional cartridges and instead have refillable ink tanks, which significantly reduce the cost of continuous ink replacement. Thanks again for your interest and support of the video!
Hi there... After you convert the wf-7840 to sublimation, is it possible to switch back to regular dye cartridges if you clean the printhead or buy a spare printhead so you can have one for dye ink and one for sublimation?
@@LeeLeesCraft Thanks Lee... that's all I needed to know, because I primarily need the large format standard printing, but the dye-sub looks pretty awesome too.
I just subbed to the channel and I just bought this printer after seeing a few videos on it. I'll be waiting for the chipless firmware but until then isn't there a way to reset these chips? Resetting would save sooo much hassle...
Thank you for subscribing to my channel. I agree, being able to reset the chips would make all the difference. However, i haven't found a company that has a reset for the 812 chips, yet. There are a couple of them working on it.
I just replaced my chips at the beginning of this week & they were half full but reading low. I printed some transfers this week and today (Thursday) it is already saying low again 😫 how is that possible?! $75 just to replace chips every few transfers is expensive! Is there someone cheaper I can get the cartridges or chips? Thanks!!
Hi Cherish, that's the reason why I ended up getting the Epson ET-2760 to printout small prints until they release a reset chip for that printer or a chipless driver. Printing 12x12 photo panels, I was only getting 7 or 8 prints before having to replace it. Unfortunately, there aren't any cheaper options for cartridges or chips. I keep searching. If I find anything, I will let you know.
Great video, thank you. SO you only refill ink on the cartridges after they're installed or do you have to take them out again and again or install new ones all the time?
EVERY TIME I ORDER CARTRIDGE THEY SENDING THE WRONG SIZE SO REORDER 812XL NOW DO I need to still use this of ink or are sublimation need to be pull out this?new cartridge
Hi Valencia, i did about 70 mugs, 10 tumblers and 1 shirt. So i guess it really depends on the size of your images. This time I've done about six 12x12 HD panels and 6 tumblers and my color inks are already about 85% done. The 12x12 panels used a lot of ink.
Hi, no, the chip registers a certain amount of ink. So regardless if you fill it up half way it will still show low/empty when it has gone through that registered amount of ink.
That is interesting to know how she does it. The chip doesn't work that way. I goes by the amount of ink that it was registered to have. So i would love to know how she does it for the Epson 7820.

Do you put that ink back again into the cartridge, after you bleed the air out?
I have the 7820 and I bought the refillable ink and cartridges, after switching out the chips and I use all the ink, can I just fill the cartridges back up and still use the same chips?
Unfortunately no, You would need new chips.
I keep getting a warning ⚠️ that the blk ink is low when it's full😩 what do I do PLEASE help. Thank you
Hi Cynthia, if you are using the chips from the original cartridges that came with the printer, those cartridges are what they consider a starter pack. So the chips are programed to show very limited ink inside the cartridge. So once the chip shows that its empty the printer will show as empty regardless of how much ink is inside the cartridge. You'll need to purchase another set of epson ink.
@@LeeLeesCraft no they are new not the starter ones.
Unfortunately, there isn't anything that can be done if the chips are reading low. It doesn't matter how much ink is actually in the cartridge. It's all about the chips and there isn't a chip reset available for that printer at this time.
Genius!!! Because this ink cost is killing me 🙄
do you know if you can use edible ink for cake designs in that cartridge
Take care.
You're welcome. Let me know if there is anything you would like for me to show on a future video.
I’m guessing no chip resetten coming for these? ☹️
Can you do this for pigment ink instead of sublimation ink? So that it is refillable?
Yes, it would be the same process.
I installed new chips last week in my wf 7840 for the first time and after only 12 prints the magenta cartridge is having a chip error. Saying cannot recognize cartridge. Any suggestions? I have about 80 shirts I need to have ready within 10 days.
The chips are the ones that came with the Epson ink cartridges.... I can't understand why it is saying not recognized.
Can we just just use the same chip in refill the ink cartridge that was already converted ?
Hi Sophia, unfortunately no. Once the chips registers that a certain amount of ink has been used it will display low/empty. Even if you try to fill the cartridge while they half full.
I made my first print onto 11x17 and it left a large white stripe down the center of the paper where it didn't print anything. The part of the design on the right and left side printed nice. Any idea why the entire design wouldn't print?
Does it look like it split the image or is it a missing section?
missing a section
What do you do with all the unused epson ink/cartridge?
For now i am just keeping them around. Hopefully in the future after a chipless driver for the printer comes out i'll be able to use it if i need to print with regular ink.
Does it still work in 2024? I plan to buy it but hope there isn't an update that blocked it!
For the sake of asking, are the scanning beds on these printers 12 x 18?
For the WF-7820/7840 Maximum Scan Area Flatbed: 11 x 17
@@LeeLeesCraft Thank you! I've been on the hunt for a new printer, and I think I can finally invest in one of these.
What about refillable cartridges with chips, how do they work?
How do you fix if it says cartridge not recognized
You can try this, It has worked for some people but not for everyone. Take the cartridge that is not being recognized out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again.
Do you have to replace the chips, every time the refillable cartridge (with sub dye) is empty?
Hi Sissybug, unfortunately until a conversion kit is available you will need to change the chips every time the refillable cartridge is empty.
After I did setup it immediately said low ink. Do you have to get new chips everytime it say low ink?
Tiffany, unfortunately for now, yes, you have to get new chips every time it says low ink.
@@LeeLeesCraft so everytime u gotta buy ink
I have these same ink cartridges for my WF-7829 and the chips won’t go in at all. Is there anything I could do to fix it?
Hi Daniela, are you cutting the little tab at the end of the cartridge?
I just got this printer and set it up but I cannot get it to print. It just keeps printing blanks and I do not know how to fix it.
Hi Nikki, send me an email to leeleescraftstore@gmail.com and i'll see how i might be able to help.
Same here and black ain't reading either
How do you get the ink to fall? Mine is coming out light
What print settings are you using? And time and heat when sublimating?
Waaaay off topic but what kind of watch you have?
Hi, I have an Apple Watch Series 4.
@@LeeLeesCraft thanks for the reply, too bad I don't own anything Apple 🥺 lol
It looks like a bad ass watch 🙂
You can email me directly leeleescraftstore@gmail.com and what watch do you use?
Great Tutorial!! Thanks so much!!
is this how the same way to convert the 7840
Yes, the 7820 and the 7840.
I`ve noticed you`ve taken off the chips off new cartages. Do they have to be new? Can you do that with old Cartages?
They need to be new cartridges.
Hi there... After you convert the wf-7840 to sublimation, is it possible to switch back to regular dye cartridges if you clean the printhead or buy a spare printhead so you can have one for dye ink and one for sublimation?
Hi Mike, yes you can switch back to regular. You should just be able to clean the printhead and use regular Epson ink.
@@LeeLeesCraft Thanks Lee... that's all I needed to know, because I primarily need the large format standard printing, but the dye-sub looks pretty awesome too.
You're welcome
How do you print 13x19?
what sublimation ink do you recommend for the epson 7820
I have been using Inkxpro. However, i have a set of cosmo ink that i am looking forward to trying.
Do I have to buy new epson cartridges everytime I want to refill the ink?
Unfortunately, yes you do.
Informative video😊
I just subbed to the channel and I just bought this printer after seeing a few videos on it. I'll be waiting for the chipless firmware but until then isn't there a way to reset these chips? Resetting would save sooo much hassle...
Thank you for subscribing to my channel. I agree, being able to reset the chips would make all the difference. However, i haven't found a company that has a reset for the 812 chips, yet. There are a couple of them working on it.
@@LeeLeesCraft Yessir....gonna have to be patient and creative.
If I find anything, I will let you know.
when i try to print the image, it says my printer has a internal error.
How long did the ink last from your previous video?
Hi Valencia, i did about 70 mugs, 10 tumblers and 1 shirt. So i guess it really depends on the size of your images. This time I've done about six 12x12 HD panels and 6 tumblers and my color inks are already about 85% done. The 12x12 panels used a lot of ink.
Hey there, thanks for video. So, with the 7840 you have to remove the chip & place onto the sub ink cartridges?
Thanks again!
Hi Roger, that is correct.
Where are you getting your refillable ink cartridges for the wf7820?
Hi Kristina, i get them from here: www.dynamitegorilla.com/product-page/802xl-refillable-cartridge-set-no-chips
How many sheets can you get out of the ink?
I was getting only about 30 to 40 on 8.5x11. On 13x19 maybe 10.
I’m in New Zealand is this printer the same as the wf 7845? Just came out to replace wf 7710 Thanks for your help
Hi Hosea, yes they are the same printers. I double checked that they take the same cartridges.
Couldn’t you refill these before they got low and read “low” so you don’t have to change the chip every time?
Hi, no, the chip registers a certain amount of ink. So regardless if you fill it up half way it will still show low/empty when it has gone through that registered amount of ink.
this lady that i am in a group with saids she refill hers just fine and it works
@@LeeLeesCraft Can you keep the refillable full so that it doesn't read low/empty??
So will these refillable cartridges fit the wf 7840? I'm ready to.convert!
That is interesting to know how she does it. The chip doesn't work that way. I goes by the amount of ink that it was registered to have. So i would love to know how she does it for the Epson 7820.
So I have to buy a new chip every time
Hi, for now until a ink conversion kit comes out you would need to buy a new chip every time.
Can I use the sublimation paper more than once ?
No, you may find that there is some ink remaining on the paper, it will not be enough to make a good-quality print after the first use.
@@LeeLeesCraft Hello how do I buy a new chip every time I need to replace color ink? Do I have to purchase new ink from Epson and go through the same process every time I need ink? Then purchased the sublimation ink again.Thank you very much I am a newbie
Hi Delphine, unfortunately for now, you would have the go through the same process every time the printer says the ink is empty.. You'll need to purchase new epson ink and take the chips from them. Chances are the cartridge will still have sublimation ink still inside of them. You'll just need to add a bit more.
It cost to much for the. Chips.
