ThankYou for an excellent demo of the PO12. You mentioned the volume of each note or beat can not be changed. It looks like pitch and volume of current sound can be set and listened to with recording disabled and then when back in write mode sound can be written to selected beat by keypad position including both volume and pitch. Not sure if I could see it in the demonstration but when a specific sound is enabled only keys (beats) carrying that sound will light up. So in recording mode when sound selection is changed that sound-to-beat maping will light up. When a key carrying a sound is deselcted it will loose its sound including pitch and volume and when re-selected givven the current pitch and volume.
My PO 12 and 132 arrives tomorrow! Yay! Better late than never! I’ve been enjoying the PO 137 and PO 20 Arcade. I wish there was individual volume settings for each instrument. Cheers Gaz!! You’re such a cool dude!
Wow, this is actually pretty cool sounding. I was really sceptical when i first heard of this, but it seems to have some real potential. The programming seems rather weird though.
mine has just arrived, and it is seriously nice. Cheap, toy like, but robust. I really like fun little devices for the occasional jam.. just gets me back in the mood for music and enjoying myself again rather than staring at a blank DAW!
It's great considering the price, but the lack of MIDI really is a dealbreaker to me. Sure, you can connect it to Volcas or the Arturia Beatstep, but I have neither and I'm not willing to spend more.
Nice review as always, Gaz. Sounds remarkably fat and modern which makes it a great companion for my old drumboxes (TR-606 and TR-626) and the Volca Beats that also has more of a classic sound to it. I'm really happy about all these nice little boxes that keep coming out, they are a godsend for us electronic musicians on a tight budget. Ordered the PO-12 today, let's see how long I have to wait for it...
I was wondering where the Geico Caveman has been 🙊 Love these PO's! Too think of the clunky HR16B, Boss, RZ and R-8 drum machines we used- this is amazing for $59 in your pocket !
I hope these guys do the same as korg with their monotron > volca series and release something more advanced and with midi capabilities - they sure seem to have great ideas for small, cheap gadgets
+Mats Erik Mikkelsen Yes... just chart your pattern across multiple patterns... example for 7/4 you could make it split across four patterns, I'll work up a vid example for you... too hard to explain in text.
+eldouche Since it has 1/8 outputs, you can get a 1/4-1/8 adapter or cable and just use it that way. It sounds really nice run through a subtle delay, and using fuzz gives a cool bit-crushy effect. I've run it through most of my pedals and you can really get some fun effects
Hello, I can see on my PO-12 display 2 4 8 16 numbers I assume It should be a trigger count indication. But I cant make those numbers to lit up. I thought my PO-12 is malfunctioned but I see from this video that its the same here? Anyone know anything about it?
I own a PO-20 and PO-28. They are wonderful little things. However, my criticisms of them apply just as much to this Rhythm. Poor connectivity (where's the MIDI-in, USB-audio out and a separate sync-out that doesn't share with the audio socket?). Build quality (I feel it's a bit of a gyp to sell the casing separately and even that £25 soft case still leaves the back of the uni totally exposed/slippy). Keystrokes (Why no dedicated shift/function key?). Sounds (great BUT would be great if it had a notched dial to access a whole lot more - a la the Volca Sample).
I just got one of these and they are great... but as far as I can tell you can't save the patterns you build. Once the batteries are pulled it reverts to the factory settings. Anyone out there know if you can and/or how to save your settings and patterns?
You can buy them from Dolphin, Rub a Dub and Dawson's at the very least in the UK, all I did was put in 'teenage engineering uk buy' in Google and they're all on the first page. You may have to wait a few months to get one though, they're on pre-order forever because TE like to not make enough and don't want people's money unless it's on bits of designer plastic. :)
in nearly 9 minutes, Gaz has taught me more on using these little devices then the dang Teenage Engineering Video Manuals have. Thanks GAZ!

Hello from Germany - a very interesting device and super demo. nice time

Wow, it sounds really good i am very impressed, it has more character than many contemporary drum machines.
to be honest, it sounds 100% times better than the Akai Rhythm wolf...
Now that's true my friend...
It's great considering the price, but the lack of MIDI really is a dealbreaker to me. Sure, you can connect it to Volcas or the Arturia Beatstep, but I have neither and I'm not willing to spend more.
one hundred percent times better?
lets face it, farting in a bottle sounds better than a rhythm wolf
Knocking on a tin can with a stick sounds better than the rythm wolf

Please link all 5 episodes. It took time to find part 2.

Guido Flichman but Korg already do that. This is a unique product. No point copying.
Gaz know what gabber is...LOL
I wish these were all combined into a single mobile app.
Hello do you think that I can make rap beats with that ?
Dude is stressin' me out.
Videos like this inspire me to get my rhythm out
Can it do odd numbered beats? I mean does it have to complete its 16 step sequence or can it loop say 14 steps?
+Mats Erik Mikkelsen Yes... just chart your pattern across multiple patterns... example for 7/4 you could make it split across four patterns, I'll work up a vid example for you... too hard to explain in text.
This sounds better than the Rhythm Wolf (any chance of a review of that by the way? It's been out a while)
"Gabber's alive!"
Great review.
Can you save your twiddle workouts in some kind of program, have multiple saved?
Hello, Can you explain more about the triggers- 5:45 please?
hey look! cuckoo's big bro is into gear too!
How much coffee do you drink dude?
Whats that icon to the right of the "write" icon on the screen?
This is BEAUTIFUL! Any way to tie this in with a guitar pedal board?

i dig it too. how detailed is the manual?
Who's gonna be the first to mod it with a backlight?
i really wish they included the cases with them....for someone with sweaty palms i doubt this would last a full day...
They're a lot more durable than they appear. It looks like a normal PCB, but it's about three times thicker than your normal circuit board.
But one scratch could mess up the circuit..
Looks fun to mess with but it's just too small for me to really consider working with. My hands are just too big!
I love this guy! He is fab.

does it output in stereo?
Can i sync this with any synth?
Yes, the audio-in jack takes the sync signal as well
Love your reviews. (You seem to have the same problem I have, being always late to cut my hair! lol ;)

Connect to a Daw through mixer or soundcard and record. Save as a sample
Great Gaz
Website claims that this machine has a built in speaker - is this true? How loud is it?
very low level but useful
Haha thank you, already bought it! The speaker is fairly loud actually
Down to $49 now. Almost the same price as the case.
What is the cable for?
I'm thinking about getting the PO-12 or PO-16 can anyone tell me which one is better?
get them both. the price is right
on sale at guitar center right now too.
The po 16 is cool at first but the sound starts to get annoying as its only based in c major whereas the po 12 sounds dont get old.
THose buttons aren't velocity sensitive are they?
+Jennifer Gwinn No. On/off
Will changing the battery clear the stored patterns?
no
Thanks!
***** no
anyone know where to buy these in wales or on a UK website? all i can find is a french one
www.teenageengineering.com/store is the official store

Can you use it without any cables?

Sounds way better than that drumbrute
