On the flip side, there was a very touching moment back in 2014. Canada had suffered a great tragedy - a gunman on Parliament hill in Ottawa. The people of Pittsburgh (fans) of the Pittsburgh Penquins + their bitter rivals- Philadelphia flyers at the start of the game sang O Canada together. It was a heartstring twister.
I never heard that! Thank you for sharing it. My niece’s boyfriend had been working in the parliament building that day and was hunkered down with several people in one of the offices for ages.
Yeah, Nashville Predators fans, also, sang "O Canada" directly as a tribute to the Canadians who had finished the US anthem in this video. The singer purposely stopped and held up the mic so the entire stadium could sing instead and they really did! Absolutely beautiful. (The video for that is on TH-cam as well).

@@counselthyself2591 you do realize that most of the soldiers where British soldiers who convinced the tribes to fight with them against the US, right? The war ended with nothing changing prior to the treaty being signed. That war was pretty much pointless. Lots of lives lost for land that remained the same when it was done. Either way we look at it, neither country has the same military as they did +200 years ago. If I had to bet my money on who would win a battle, without outside interference from other countries, between Canada and the US, I'd bet 10,000/1 the US would win. It would be like a big brother putting their little brother in his place. 😜
I just watched this a second time (I love your channel). I’m more touched by the Canadians singing this than I can say. I think as Americans we don’t feel loved much by the rest of the world. This truly touches my heart that Canada was there for us
July 4th, around 1984 - my sister brings her kids down to Seattle to visit. We go to the yearly Ivar's fireworks display at the waterfront. My nephew was around 6 years old at the time; they started playing the Star Spangled Banner before the fireworks... He starts singing "Oh Canada" lol That was a Kodak moment!
I grew up in Pennsylvania going to NHL and minor league hockey games. Both national anthems were always sung. I don't think that I have ever sung the Canadian National Anthem, but I sure do know it word-for-word. Much respect for Canada.
Both videos were awesome. The words for U.S. National Anthem were written during the War 1812 with Great Britain. The melody is from a song written for a British men's social club and was specified by Francis Scott Key to use in singing his words. It did not officially become the national anthem until Congress acted to do so about 1930.
It was not written for a men's social club. It actually was during a prisoner exchange when Key was on a British ship at sea watching the Brits bomb Fort Henry repeatedly during the War of 1812. The family did a reaction of the backstory of the Star Spangled Banner a couple of years ago: th-cam.com/video/DDZVM7p7_Ac/w-d-xo.html
@@monikamartin6002 The WORDS were written by Key. The MELODY was written by John Stafford Smith, an English composer and musician, for a men's social club in London. The words Smith set were in praise of a god of wine, not the battle at Fort McHenry.
@@monikamartin6002 I was talking about the words AND the melody they are set to. As a musician who has played and sung the piece quite often I consider the whole piece our National Anthem. I would also note that the song "My Country "tis of Thee" uses the same MELODY as the British National Anthem "God Save the King."
When a singer sings it the rest of us are singing it to ourselves. So when we need it, we are already in motion. We were raised to stand, sing the song and put are hand on our heart. God Bless America. It affects me because my husband was in the military to fight for our freedom.
I had the privilege, back in my performing days, of singing the national anthem, prior to a performance of “The Music Man” (the quintessential American musical). It was opening night, and the Fourth of July to boot! Can’t think of a time I felt more patriotic. 🇺🇸❤️
Excellent comradery from our neighbors to the north. Many US citizens know the tune to Oh Canada, even if they don't know the words. Fortunately, my wife is a Newfy, so I know it.
As an American hockey fan they used to do both the American and Canadian anthems then as time passed it was American only unless it was a Canadian team. I know I could fill in the Canadian anthem with everyone else ❤️
I was at a Red Sox vs Blue Jays game where the Canadians sung the American national anthem so loud. I thought they would remain silent but I was brought to tears to hear them sing it so loudly. It was incredible to witness
At sports events such as hockey and baseball which have teams from both US and Canada we sing both anthems to start every game. Hockey fans especially know the words to the Canadian anthem here in the US as there are so many games with both teams.
Well this American had never seen that clip. I definitely teared up. Thank you Canadians and Australians 😊. Maybe on your next US trip I’ll get to see you ❤❤❤. I’m in Chattanooga, TN. I love watching your videos but had missed this one. Glad I saw it today.
As a Canadian growing up close to the border, both anthems were normally played at sporting event's as teams were from both countries, or players on one team was mixed. The part of Norther Ontario, that I grew up in we always sang along with the anthems as well. As for Canadian/US relationship, it's best summed up as a love/hate relationship.
The National Hockey league starts it’s preseason games around September 28th. The regular season begins around October 10th. If you can catch a hockey game in USA when a Canadian team is playing, you’ll get both National Anthems! Pretty cool to see and hear! 😉👍
The National anthem always brings tears to my eyes. Our flag stood tall through that war because every time the person holding her up was shot someone else immediately ran to hold her up. Their bodies piled up around Old Glory securing her so she proudly waved all night long. Freedom is worth your life. Home of the brave 150%.
I just love your Family! Your kids have grown a lot! Your daughter always has this sweet concern on her forehead an eyes, very cute!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Sometime you guys should watch Chris Stapleton Sing the National Anthem at Our Super Bowl Football Game, players were tearing up. Very Emotional. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The Star spangled banner is one of those songs that you really have to be a good singer to nail. Which makes it even more goosebump inducing. It goes really low and really high all over the place! If you start too high you'll be screwed halfway through.
It makes me feel so good that you guys take the time to actually learn about America's history and why we view patriotism the way we do. When we stand together in the name of our nation, there is reverence. You guys get that, because you are good and kind people and you took the time to take it upon yourself to learn more about another country. You guys are always welcome in Louisiana. Maybe you guys do a video one day about new zealand things?? I fully admit that I known very little about new zealand and its history and would love to hear about that sort of thing from your side. Teach us about New Zealand. Whole new world of content. Show us your food. I'm sure Atlanta could whip up some of yalls regional delicacies and you guys tell us about it. Tell us about your landmarks. Can you guys tell where other new Zealanders are from by their regional accent like here? And probably most importantly....I wanna know about New Zealand snacks. Do you have snacks there we don't have here?? Surely. I wanna know what they are and how new zealand snacks taste. Just saying. Peace out my NZed fam!
As soon as the Anthem starts, my hand immediately goes to my heart. We were taught to do this as soon as we could walk. Same with the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you for reminding me of the good in my country as well as other countries. God Bless you, New Zealand, and God Bless America!
It's also a Hockey thing..... Growing up in America loving NHL hockey you hear the American and Canadian anthems before games a lot especially the 80 and 90s as a kid. Lots of Canadian teams. I knew the Canadian national anthem word for word as a eighth year old American because hockey 😂. My mother is from Canada and I know a lot of them know ours for the same reason.
You only get both the Canadian anthem & the US anthem at sporting events where there's a team from Canada playing a team from the US. So ice hockey is the obvious choice, as there are seven NHL teams in Canada, but also there's one Canadian MLB team, one Canadian NBA team, & three Canadian MLS teams, too. So hockey fans are very familiar with both anthems, & many fans sing both in the stands.
Hey guys! Hope you're enjoying the U.S. with everything to see, hear, taste, touch, smell, and experience. Vlog everything and take many photos :D I'm excited to see everything once you're done with the trip. The end was so cool!
When you are a die hard hockey fan in North America you know the lyrics of both the Canadian and American National anthem by heart. Although I can’t sing the French part because in my arena in America the guy that sings the National anthem does not sing that part in French and he still sings the old version not the new (the lyric in all of us command got changed from in all thy sons command)
I went to a concert by the Vancouver Symphony outdoors and they began it with "Oh, Canada" which I heartily did my best to sing. Actually, I'll sing anybody's anthem if I can (for most, I'll need to be given the words)--they are nearly all great songs. By the way, don't know if you saw the news about the tennis fan recently ejected from a match for singing the original first stanza of "Deutschland Uber Alles" which was a song written by the much admired Joseph Haydn and, with words composed I think in 1922, used as the German national anthem after that. But because Hitler enthusiastically used it after he came to power a decade later, the post-war German government dropped the first 2 relatively nationalistic stanzas and only use the third. Very few if any Americans know this--I didn't--and if you Google "German National Anthem" you are likely to get all three even now. Anyway, the fan began singing the first stanza during a match involving a German player who objected to the referee, arguing the fan was slandering him as a Nazi which I'm almost certain wasn't the case--he was probably supporting him.

Grand Dad thought of New Zaland as the second anchor of the pacific war. The only thing that Dad made clear was to always attack first in the Pacific. The Pacific fleet was thought as a holding action. He said to advance. The momentum was there. He was just a corporal & seemed to know more than the brass. He said to always advance. He said as long as they were advancing; he would get home sooner than later.
Hi there, do I remember this game, was watching it and yes I felt bad for the singer because it's important to show patriotism, I was actually singing along with the crowd from my living room in Ontario, Canada. We like to think that but they kinda kicked our ass in the war of 1812, sometimes I wonder who protects whom
@@psymar that was 211 years ago 🤣
@@counselthyself2591 you do realize that most of the soldiers where British soldiers who convinced the tribes to fight with them against the US, right? The war ended with nothing changing prior to the treaty being signed. That war was pretty much pointless. Lots of lives lost for land that remained the same when it was done. Either way we look at it, neither country has the same military as they did +200 years ago. If I had to bet my money on who would win a battle, without outside interference from other countries, between Canada and the US, I'd bet 10,000/1 the US would win. It would be like a big brother putting their little brother in his place. 😜
@@psymar Something about re painting the White house.
They provided refuge for a ton of US citizens….and some other countries….at the drop of a dime when all planes were downed in their country during 911
I just watched this a second time (I love your channel). I’m more touched by the Canadians singing this than I can say. I think as Americans we don’t feel loved much by the rest of the world. This truly touches my heart that Canada was there for us
We are fortunate to have great neighbors.
@@garygreen7552 I was talking about the words. Who wouldn't? Lol
@@counselthyself2591 I was talking about the words. Who wouldn't? Lol
No two countries have closer cooperation, mutual respect, and true friendship.
Thank you it makes me so proud to be an American 🇺🇸 and to hear y’all love our National Anthem.
Yes it’s your right hand over your heart as you sing
When a singer sings it the rest of us are singing it to ourselves. So when we need it, we are already in motion. We were raised to stand, sing the song and put are hand on our heart. God Bless America. It affects me because my husband was in the military to fight for our freedom.
I had the privilege, back in my performing days, of singing the national anthem, prior to a performance of “The Music Man” (the quintessential American musical). It was opening night, and the Fourth of July to boot! Can’t think of a time I felt more patriotic. 🇺🇸❤️
Canadians Are So Awesome!!!! Friendliest Country As New Zealand!!!🔥🌹❤️🎶
Excellent comradery from our neighbors to the north. Many US citizens know the tune to Oh Canada, even if they don't know the words. Fortunately, my wife is a Newfy, so I know it.
Your family are amazing! I love watching videos all about my country. It’s cool to watch from people from New Zealand. I’ve already subbed!!
As an American hockey fan they used to do both the American and Canadian anthems then as time passed it was American only unless it was a Canadian team. I know I could fill in the Canadian anthem with everyone else ❤️
I always get goosebumps when I hear our National Anthem 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️😄!!!
Love the Suns shirt ❤️!!! Arizona here
Beautiful... I've never seen this one... Thank You Canadians and New Zealanders.
I was at a Red Sox vs Blue Jays game where the Canadians sung the American national anthem so loud. I thought they would remain silent but I was brought to tears to hear them sing it so loudly. It was incredible to witness
How sweet is that!..#1..that we sang it, and even more that it touched people in New Zealand!❤
At sports events such as hockey and baseball which have teams from both US and Canada we sing both anthems to start every game. Hockey fans especially know the words to the Canadian anthem here in the US as there are so many games with both teams.
Atlanta silently singing the last few stanzas of the song is fantastic, 2 thumbs up from Montana!!
Canadian subscriber here. I love your videos... keep up the great work.
We love our Canadian cousins!
How wonderful!! To hear others sing our anthem, I am sitting here crying. Thank you, for showing this.
Watch the video about how Gander, Newfoundland was incredibly gracious and kind to thousands of air travelers stuck on 9/11.
They made a musical about it
They didn't even miss a beat! Instant goosebumps and tears.
You crazy Canuks give us so much? We absolutely love you as well! Good Luck and god Bless.
Love our cousins to the north!
The National Hockey league starts it’s preseason games around September 28th. The regular season begins around October 10th. If you can catch a hockey game in USA when a Canadian team is playing, you’ll get both National Anthems! Pretty cool to see and hear! 😉👍
Makes me tear up every time. God bless Anerica!❤️🇺🇲
I'm 67 years old. I can't tell you how many times I've heard our national anthem. I tear up Everytime I hear it.
I always tear up every time I see and hear this. I am just so proud of Canada and it's amazing people !!
Finally!!! Canada gets recognition from the Aussies. Everyone always forgets Canada. We are a wonderful country and so is America!!
@user-dd9st4vk2p: Yes, you are a wonderful country! Thanks for being our neighbors to the north.
New Zealand we love you From Michigan!!!
There is a love affair with our neighbors north! mad respect
There are some decent people left in this OLD world! Bravo........... Thanks New Zealand family!!!!

My three favorite people hale from Canada. The rock band Rush.
Short video, but powerful. Thank you for sharing. Love your reactions. Have you been to any games since you've been here in the USA?
Looking forward to those vlogs. Take care and be well. 😊
This has happened a few times where Canadian fans have sung the US anthem as well as our own. I have also seen the US sing our national anthem and there's. Thanks for another great video, hope you're having fun on your trip.
It also happened in Vancouver. At a Canucks hockey game.
Proud American here - love our northern neighbors ❤🇺🇸 🇨🇦
