I’m from the Cleveland area. Thank you for doing this deep dive into our great state. It’s so sad to see how drugs have altered the the lives of so many. Bringing light to these societal issues/trends is the key to changing the trajectory. I really appreciate the historical background mixed with the anecdotal/personal interviews
Be advised, from someone who is a political scientist, with my wife being a Dr of Psychology who advises governments. Along with our daughter who is a Dr of Sociology. There is no change possible to the 'trajectory' in America .. The only outcome will be the extinction of the working classes through natural selection within c.150 years. This video is ludicrous. The reason the industrial base died away is not about the reasons RocaNews is spewing, they are merely symptoms. The reason for the decline is found entirely within the Industrial Revolutions. The 'working classes' were created and developed PURELY for the 2nd Industrial Revolution. The revolution of mass produced manufacturing. That ended in c.1913 The 3rd IR began c.1945 … Automation of production. Hence the requirement was to automate, to ditch workers asap, as they are inefficient. That movement grew markedly through the 1970's - 2000 .. Then the 4th IR began to kick in … So automated lines of robotics, controlled by computerisation not humans. In reality then, the working classes due to these advancements are now the working poor and fast becoming the working indigent or plain indigent. The illicit drugs are a massive issue in America because of the appalling society with it's complete lack of care and 'dog eat dog' ethos. Drugs replace hope and income. A known, inalienable fact. As you now have Trump (), elected specifically because of the 3rd/4th IR effects, your society is about to become Nth times worse. In my country in N Europe, we have zero homelessness, minimal drug usage, universal health care, high educational and employment levels, all coupled to a 100% rehabilitative societal outlook. If we have people breaking the laws, we ask as a society how WE let them down. Of course we are based in 'Freedom from' .. Not the unbelievable American 'Freedom to..." America is socially and economically sinking fast. Nothing will change that. It is a real life Dystopia horror which ALL of you have bene working on for the past 250+ years. None of you Americans appear to read books. Including RocaNews.
Here's a big problem with Ohio's drug war. These state funded clinics that serve methadone (etc) to opioid addicts that they will be shackled with their addiction forever. That's no help it is a flat out lie. It keeps people with one foot in the grave - and these clinic workers job secure. There are millions of recovered addicts that lead normal lives, I am one of them. People need to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That you can overcome an addiction and lead a completely normal life. Peace.
Go to dayton ohio, was the opioid capital of Ohio for years and had some of the worst overdose rates in the country. Ohio has so many messed up communities
Yup I was on Vicodin, Percocet, oxy IR. It got to expensive for me to get on the street and I didn’t try fentanyl and once I did that nothing was the same and it was the only thing that made me feel better and not in pain. Luckily I got the help I needed and just went over 2 years sober with suboclade injections. You can get through it if you want to and have the mindset to do it.

I just recently watched the show snowfall, it's literally about they exact scenario that older man in the convenience store was talking about. The crack boom made young men wealthy, it also sent them to jail and made everyone around them hopelessly addicted. It was a brutal ass show, very sad and in they end the main character had nothing. If you're fascinated bye the subject of drugs, I'd give it a watch.
I'm almost nine years clean. My addiction really kicked off after I was prescribed oxycontin for a hip injury. Prior to that I only drank alcohol or smoked pot. The pills really kicked my addictive personality into overdrive.
Born and raised in a small town between springfield and dayton. Ive done every drug that exists, lucky for me i have genetics that resist addiction. I still smoke grass but if i smoke half a bowl a day thats alot. Most of my old freinds either went to jail spent years in a shitty cycle. Only a couple had ODs but they lived. What im talking about is middle class suburb kids. The city kids have it so damn much worse.
People keep acting like fentanyl is something new. Here in Northeast Ohio, that shit went from mostly heroin to fetty in a short amount of time in 2015. In akron anyway. Drugs will always be a problem that will never go away. Drugs can only be beaten on a person by person basis. One addict at a time. Id have never gotten clean without my family and medically assisted treatment.
Small towns in Southern Ohio are still struggling. We need help. But instead, we get labeled, we get police and government corruption. There's no escape
Awesome video. This is the hard truth of what happened to the Valley... I'm from wellsville ohio have lost many friends to addiction. It is sad they Made Wrong choices in life but were good people... There start to be a lot of gun violence. East Liverpool and wellsville...
My sister takes tramadol for pain she has very serious spine issues.. Her health insurance company sends her narcan a couple times a year just in case she has an accidental over dose. Why keep giving that meds if the person has to have the narcan ready every time she takes a pill 😮
I grew up in Lancaster my parents worked at the battery making factory and anchor hocking glass company. Its sad that there are so many factories closed and no jobs anymore
The opposite of addiction in connection , to family friends , and community . People who already have lost all connection will stay addicted out of emotional need .❤
I could be wrong but I think you might be thinking about his vid on East Cleveland, OH (The Most corrupt city in America) which ironically isn’t actually part of Cleveland Proper and is it’s own city/municipality (kinda like how North Canton is a city itself and not “Canton Proper) but that video also explained a-lot of the similar issues this region has shown in this vid
Part of the problem is we keep voting for politicians that do nothing about the problem. JD Vance for example talked non-stop about how he wanted to stop it, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing. If you actually want to do something, start researching who you vote for, before voting for them.
Ex drug user from Columbus... just happy I made it too the other side, alot of people I know didn't...I bought a house last year. I was itching and nodding since the 9th grade
Back in the late 1950's and 1960's, I grew up in a small town near Warren, adjacent to Cleveland and Akron, when Ohio was a thriving upscale place to live. I've got all kinds of great memories. But I left in 1983 and I wouldn't move back there today, for anything.
Go sit in any has station or the parking lot in steel yard commons and you will see dozens and dozens of drug deals going down but yet for some reason the police either don't care or not smart enough to catch them.
How much did government Health agencies & insurers pay out to buy opioids for people? my pain wasn't that bad but when they diagnosed it and gave me a prescription I declined..
I don’t care who brought the drugs in to the dealers, you don’t have to take it. You have a choice to say no. I was on crack and fety for 6 years. Now I’m 15 months sober, it’s people and places. Just leave your situation and start over anywhere. It took me about a year to be comfortable. I’m not where I want to be in life, but I keep trying and trying to get to that stage in life 😮
Maybe the government should quit telling doctors how to do their jobs. Then fentanyl might not be killing EVERYONE!! SOME PEOPLE ARE IN REAL PAIN AND NEED MEDICATION...
This is what class warfare looks like. The "upper-class" has made ridiculous amounts of money off the pain & suffering of the middle and lower financial classes. Welcome to America. Ohio is not unique. This is not an anomaly. This is fairly common anymore across this country.
I live in Ohio & i got addicted to opiates because of a serious injury . The doctors gave me a new non addictive painkiller (oxycontin) Then the doctors started getting in trouble for over subscribing painkillers. So they started cutting people off the medication. I moved to buying painkillers off the streets & then fentanyl started showing up. I have been clean off all hard drugs for over 10 years now. I have used legal cannabis to help me stay clean! I'm still really poor & struggling but I'm clean. I started growing medical cannabis because I can't afford to buy it from the dispensary. I upload gardening videos on my YT channel if anyone is interested.
