I had a 68 Plymouth Fury III fastback in 1975. It had a 318 engine and 3spd automatic transmission with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. I added a am/fm cassette player to it. Drove it for 3 years and it was a nice cruiser.😎
My mom had 1 of these and wow it brings back so many memories ...got tears in my eyes thinking of driving to and from grandma's house, driving to the city and the supermarket ... I can remember hearing Karen Carpenter on the radio on the way back home .... best of times they were - my goodness
Beautiful car! First one of those I've ever seen with a 4 speed. I knew some C-bodies had them but I never saw one in those cars before. Must be pretty rare.
Beautiful!!. My Dad rewarded himself after he got back from Vietnam with a 68 Road Runner with the 383 and Torqueflite.... Unfortunately he had to trade it after a year because of high insurance rates... We do have the VIN for it and last we knew it was still in existence...
I bought a 68 Road Runner in 72 while stationed in Charleston South Carolina. Loved that car but unfortunately a drunk slammed into me the insurance totaled it out, bent the frame bad .of course nowadays people would see that as not that big of a deal and restore it. Back then they just wrote them off. Last I knew of it was in a junkyard in N.C.
I use to own a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere in 1966 and my aunt owned one she bought new My favorite ride was a big motor 1963 Savoy a friend owned and he put in a 3 speed on the floor Then in 1967 a high school buddy bought a 1967 GTX brand new just before I went into the Navy
Awesome car!! Welcome to the Fury club! You will get stopped by at least one person every time you go out for a cruise…who wants to talk you ear off about your car. It’s a beauty!
Absolutely gorgeous car. My dad had a 1967 Dodge Monaco 500 2dr. hardtop, which I learnt to drive on, and when I look at your Sport Fury from the side I see his Monaco. Again what a beauty and my favourite colour too.
My Mom bought one in 1968 from Joe Grogan Chrysler Plymouth. Was her first new car. White with green interior. I learned to drive in it and she had it for close to 20 years. Loved that car. Never seen a 4speed how cool. Your car is the coolest Fury I’ve ever seen. What a great find.
Had a 66 fury 318 in highschool. Put that car though hell but it took it. It was a tank. Later got a 70 Chrysler imperial brougham440. Power and pure luxury. This car looks like a combination of those two. Great purchase.
beautiful car, marvelous paint job, even though Plymouth had some awesome blues.my high school crush had one of those, remember riding in the back seat while her mom drove us to movies etc., maybe that's why my first car was a Plymouth and was my favorite car to buy.
Beautiful Fury!! I heard you mention "Super Commando" a couple of times. That moniker was used for the 440CuIn 375-horse motor. 'Commando" is correct for the 383CuIn motor. I minor point perhaps. My good friend 'Hilty' had a blue '68 Fury III Sport with the 440/4-sp back in high school. 47 yrs later those memories still make me smile!
Partially correct. The “Commando” was the base 383. 290hp, 2 barrel, single exhaust. The “Super Commando” was the HP 383, 330hp 4 barrel, dual exhaust. The 375 horse 440 was also called a “Super Commando”, just had a different number in the vin. The 5th digit of my VIN is “H” - which is the High Performance 383 “Super Commando”. If the 5th digit were a “G” it would be the base Commando 383. A “K” would be the base 440, and “L” would be the high performance 375 horse 440.
I love the interior lights on the back roof, supports in on the size of the center console. This is my third comment I have to stop. Best of luck with her, what a great car. Really happy for you.
Beautiful car. I had the same year same body in the Fury II and in Avocado green(1974). It had the 318 in it, and returning from Toronto with some friends was able to coax it up to 110 before it started over heating. So much room in that car too.
The window opening is such a cool and perfect shape. I had a 70 Chevelle SS in high school and I currently only 69 Firebird convertible. Both cars had the small back window in the back and I love having both windows down. 1:46
I had a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury. It came with a 383, my buddy put in a 440., 727 Trans and updated the cam. It was a beast. I sold it in 2000. /My wife hated the car because I was always driving like a fool. I really miss it.😡
With The 4 speed and the sure grip, maybe the original owner just wanted it to be better in the snow. Fit a lot of cement blocks in the trunk if more traction was needed. So not only is it drop dead gorgeous, but it's nice to know it's probably pretty good in the snow !
Man is that cool I like you didn’t know such a beast was possible with the factory four speed man that thing would be hard on gas and hard on the licence but hooches mama it would be fun!
Surprisingly easy on gas, even with the 383. If I had to guess, it probably gets around 15-17mpg cruising. I’ve put a little over 500 miles on it so far, and I expected to stop for gas more often than I do. The 4 speed paired with the big block torque makes it really easy to keep the RPMs low, it has enough torque to almost idle through all 4 gears. In 4th gear at 60mph it sits right around 2300rpm with 3:23s out back, with no strain on the engine whatsoever.
I love it but I wouldn’t think that it would be fun to drive due to the lack of power steering and brakes. I always loved that starter noise. My parents best friends bought a new 1968 Fury III 4 door sedan. I remember it being a really nice car. It replaced their 1960 DeSoto 4 door hardtop.
It really drives great even without power steering or brakes. Parking lot maneuvering can be tricky with no power steering, but once it gets going down the road it’s almost unnoticeable. You’d never know it doesn’t have power steering. The manual transmission being able to downshift to stops really helps with braking also, it’s very pleasant and easy to drive. 👍🏻
My car was a '67 that I bought in 1973, with the same engine but it was an automatic. It was maroon with a vinyl top. Absolute gas pig which only got 8mpg. I worked 20 miles away and had to fill it twice a week. I kept it less than a year and was glad to get rid of it. Nice car but at that time I couldn't afford putting that much gas into it.
I would chop off those tailpipe extensions and make it oem-looking. The car is gorgeous except for that. I never much go for changing body color, but somebody did a very nice job. Best of luck with it. Edit: wow, pretty unusually optioned. Rare is right!
I had a 66 Plymouth fury convertible with a 383 engine in it and it had a four-speed on the floor bench seat fender skirts the whole nine yards actually had an AM FM radio with a reverb in the speaker in the back in the whole nine yards game from the factory like that I bought it used black interior black convertible top black convertible top
Depends on were the car was delivered to what state for the air cleaner, I think dual air cleaner pretty rare. I never personally like the color red in a Mopar, what color blue was it? If it was QQ1 you have a gem 💎
Wow, nice…. Interestingly, I stumbled across a 1966 GALAXIE* 500 XL *4 Speed/Deluxe int/352/4 BBL @ my : CHRYSLER *Plymouth Dealer in 1967… low miles, only Manuel on Dealership! ….I imoroved it ( metallic Brakes/ tires/ Monroe’s) quick, not being a 7Litre/ Disc & lots FORD MOTORCRAFT PERF PARTS @ my local Dealer, etc.. ps: I bought new 1970:Coronet 500;383 Turquoise Engine: a strong , definitely , not a boat Anchor ! Some of 383s were extra HP…..
Lucky to have learned how to drive in High School, they offered a 10 week course. Learned with an all new basic model Plymouth Fury 3. I went to High Shool In LA, Alexander Hamilton High, '69-'72. The driving course was very thorough you had class room and then actual driving afterwards. Nothing like that now, too prohibitive and costly, what with Insurance rates and all
Beautiful car! Looks good in red, although I may have preferred the original blue with white interior. It's hard to believe that paint finish is about 25 years old. My first car (that wasn't a hand-me-down from my mother and father) was a 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury in Forest Green with a painted white roof. It had a white interior with the front bucket seats and the center seat with fold-down armrest (boy how I wanted the center console with a floor shift for my 3-speed Torqueflite). It had optional front disc brakes and so it had the special wheelcovers for disc brakes. Are you sure your car has the Super Commando 383 cu. in. engine? I noticed the Commando badge on the front fenders, which is what my Sport Fury had. If I remember correctly, the Commando engine was a 383 with 2-BBl carb and single exhaust, and was rated at 290 HP. The Super Commando was a 383 with 4-BBL carb and dual exhaust and was rated at 330 HP. Does your car have a 2-BBL or 4-BBLcarb, although it could have been changed. Your dual exhaust could have been added later, as well. At any rate, a great car. I'd love to still have mine today!
It’s the Super Commando. There never was a “Super Commando” fender badge, they all said “Commando V8” regardless of output. The 5th digit in my vin is an “H” which designated the High Performance 383.
Thanks for your response and clearing up my misunderstanding. I thought there had been a "Super Commando" fender badge. The 5th digit in my VIN was "G" . By the way, my Sport Fury had PS, PB, A/C, and an AM/FM radio.
If mind serves me correct, 1968 was the last year for a 4 speed in a C Body. Early ‘68 would have the Inland like mine, but halfway through ‘68 they ditched the Inland for the Hurst, and the last of the ‘68 4 speed C Bodies did receive the Hurst shifter. Thats even more rare than my own car - to have a Hurst 4 speed C Body.
I think you maybe wrong, the inland shifter is super rare for 68, at least for chargers, supposedly I heard in 68 there was a strike in the 4sp plant or something is why they Chrysler went to the hurst shifter, I’ll look it up because there was only a couple hundred in the charger for 68 with a inland shifter, so now I’m curious 🧐 on your car, I have the the original copy’s of the production numbers in my books, your car could be super rare
What I’m getting is 40, 68 C body’s came with an inland shifter… that’s from a Mopar C body thread. Your cat was a 3 combo color car to which would have been a special order car to have black top, white interior and blue exterior, most cars delivered to dealers had the same color interior as there vinyl top, to have a three different color combo is very desirable and uncommon.
My Dad had a’67 Fury III 2 Dr hardtop, 318 torqueflight. It didn’t have power brakes and that was a serious shortcoming. At highway speed, you couldn’t stand on the brakes hard enough to honor a yellow light. Worst brakes I’ve ever experienced and it was two years old at that time.
I didnt remember the stacked headlights in 68, i remember 66 and 67 Ford, Cadillac, Plymouth. Must have been the only make and model in 68 to have them.
I had the 383 commando as well in my vip,,same car,,would go to 90 mph, shut off cruise control go down to 30 mph then reset cruise and it would rocket back to 90,,,,
That's a cool Fury with tha 4 speed. Congratulations on your purchase.
What a beautiful car! Presence and style. Wow.
This is when they used to build great cars.
The 4 speed is the cherry on top of this machine!
I had a 68 Plymouth Fury III fastback in 1975. It had a 318 engine and 3spd automatic transmission with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. I added a am/fm cassette player to it. Drove it for 3 years and it was a nice cruiser.😎

Always amazed by these top quality paint jobs. Perfect red for this car. Mint condition especially that vinyl top … no bubbling rust.
👍🚘🇨🇦
So kool that it’s a factory 4 speed!
Beautiful car! First one of those I've ever seen with a 4 speed. I knew some C-bodies had them but I never saw one in those cars before. Must be pretty rare.

Nice! Like the hubcaps! Kind of nice to see something besides Magnums for a change!
One of the best styled Plymouth Fury ever and great colour too!

Me too James. My Mom had one with the Super Commando automatic. Ahh, the memories! What a time to be a 16 yr old.
Beautiful car!!! She sounds great
As a former owner of three 68 Fury's to me they were the best looking.
My brother had a 1967 dodge
Monaco red white inside whitetop my wife said that was a sexy car
😊
I had the 383 in several Chrysler cars back in the day. Chrysler, several Dodges, one Plymouth. Never had a problem with the engine in any of them
I love the interior lights on the back roof, supports in on the size of the center console. This is my third comment I have to stop. Best of luck with her, what a great car. Really happy for you.
Love the 70 model air cleaner.
I had a 1966 Plymouth Vip 4dht 318 automatic yellow w/ black vinyl roof and black interior. Great Car.
That is super cool, and sounds great.
I really like the little 383 on the hood.
The 4 speed just is the icing on the cake! Great rare car!
the car is incredibly cool
Very nice.I have a 66 Sport Fury that was painted in 1988 looking rough since the clear coat started to peel.
Beautiful car. I had the same year same body in the Fury II and in Avocado green(1974). It had the 318 in it, and returning from Toronto with some friends was able to coax it up to 110 before it started over heating. So much room in that car too.

Seen the last of these 1968s around 1984==a good 16 YEAR RUN!!!!
Congratulations!!
You hit the lotto!!
Beautiful Plymouth.
Enjoy.
Beautiful car! Enjoy buddy!
What a beauty! Thanks; nothing like that era of Plymouths.
My bro inlaw had one it was a convertable midnight blue with blue interior 383 automatic yes it was a big car,but it was fast. Nice ride😊

Hell yeah dude, some C body love.
4 barrel, 4 speed 💪
Nice one! Beautiful car! Cheers! 👍😁🔧🛠️

A rare gem to hold on to!
I see it has the amber dash mounted reverse light. That appeared with the Hurst shifter in the B Bodies because it didn’t have a reverse lockout.
I’ve seen two other C Body 4 speeds with the reverse light. Pretty cool and nice to have
very very rare car . in a sea of muscle cars nice see something besides road runners ,ss396 or 442s
BEAUTIFUL FURY!!!!!!
Woe ho, what a beautiful ride.
What a fantastic ride, I want to go for a ride, I am jeleous!
Loving the light fixtures in console
Very nice car bud! She's a beaut!
Great classic 2 door hardtop. 😀
Never seen a 4 sp Sport Fury. Cool!

Handles good when moving..
Luxury and muscle👌
Yes that is a rare auto (stacked quad headlights)over under headlights were popular a couple years then disappeared.
Whatca beautiful car.
Beautiful!
Now this is a nice Fury
👍😉❤️
Yours would have the round snorkels. You are correct. My brother had the same car. His was ordered with a 440 . 4 speed factory.
I’m 60. Plymouth Fury best car ever!
I’m 25, and I agree!
My car was a '67 that I bought in 1973, with the same engine but it was an automatic. It was maroon with a vinyl top. Absolute gas pig which only got 8mpg. I have a 67 Monaco 500 with the same combination. Yes they are rare.
Love your car buddy. Mopar or no car.😊
Wow!
😎 Awesome.
I would chop off those tailpipe extensions and make it oem-looking. The car is gorgeous except for that. I never much go for changing body color, but somebody did a very nice job. Best of luck with it. Edit: wow, pretty unusually optioned. Rare is right!
Love that 4 speed. She’s a beaut. How much did she cost?
The neighbors behind us bought one new ,same colors and hubcaps except theirs was a convertable,I was 6 at the time.
Real sweet man this would look good in my Mopar collection man how rare is that with a 4-speed if you want to sell it look me up LOL good looking
Man I want this car so bad you're one lucky dude man holy s*** how on Earth did you find this car why can't I get that lucky enjoy it
Right place at the right time! I worked with the seller for almost a year to get my hands on this one.
Fab Fury!😎👍🖤⭐️🕊🦋🕊🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸 Love it!
I believe 1968 was the last year for the 4-speed option in the Fury.
My dad had a 68 Plymouth VIP, same body style as this one ut was Canary Yellow.
Very nice!
Nice! Manual steering and manual brakes, I see.
Reminds me of a 66 Dodge Monaco with a 4 speed a friends father special ordered.
Nice muscle
That’s back in the day when they had imagination And craftsmanship
Nice car! Have fun with it.
Beautiful just beautiful , take good care of the ' ol girl 👍
That's a rare one!
Depends on were the car was delivered to what state for the air cleaner, I think dual air cleaner pretty rare. I never personally like the color red in a Mopar, what color blue was it? If it was QQ1 you have a gem 💎
Pretty sweet.

I know a GTX came with a Hurst shifter in 69 but an Inland shifter in 68. I was not aware that any C Body four speed came with a Hurst.

Nice very nice👍👍
I had a 69 you got yourself a very nice car❤
My Dad had a’67 Fury III 2 Dr hardtop, 318 torqueflight. It didn’t have power brakes and that was a serious shortcoming. At highway speed, you couldn’t stand on the brakes hard enough to honor a yellow light. Worst brakes I’ve ever experienced and it was two years old at that time.
What about a 12 body trunk..nice ride
Nice, but no 727?
No 727. It’s an A833 4 speed manual, kind of the whole point of the video.
I didnt remember the stacked headlights in 68, i remember 66 and 67 Ford, Cadillac, Plymouth. Must have been the only make and model in 68 to have them.
No options but the four speed really rocks!
