Unfortunately, just shutting the valves is not the way to solve this issue. Because when they shut the valves, the fire can backtrack into the pipe that they're trying to cut it off from. Sort of like the reason why you don't squeeze a bottle of lighter fluid onto a burning flame in a barbecue. The flame can follow the fluid up into the bottle. More than likely, they will have to set off a secondary explosion to take out all of the oxygen from the fire and instantly choke out the fire, which will turn it into just an oil leak that they can quickly cap.
Yes, but residual gas is remains in the 20 inch line between the release point and where the nearest valve is. 20 inches of pipe equates to a considerable amount of volume the longer that distance is.
@@Duke-gd3cs And yet a few hours ago, I saw that it was STILL burning. After more than 24 hours, if the pipe is THAT long between valves, "Houston, we have a problem".
well....first, they had to figure out who owned the damn pipe because none of the first responders knew, but not really their job, city official tho - they didn't know either and that took some time to track it all down, meanwhile, firefighters just trying to contain everything and try to keep the ground area cool and soak the houses with water. idk what the game plan is, except that it sounds like they finally capped something off further up the pipe and now just have to let whatever's in the remaining pipe to burn off?
