That's a lie. They mix society with religion. If you read in Arabic you get some good deed that's it if you smile it's sunnah in Islam so every time you smile you get good deeds and what he said is absolutely false. If you don't understand the quran and just read it that's not gonna help you build your Iman you can always read quran in which language your comfortable with.
