Interestingly, that odd little moment at 10:38 where he seems to start the sixth prelude but that returns to number five, is actually entirely done on purpose. I have an edition of this score which is different than the one in the video - mostly the same, but there are a few small differences. Notably, Prelude No. 5 actually ends exactly the way it was played by the composer in this recording - the little snippet from the beginning of number six is explicitly written into the end of number five. Also: The very first prelude has one extra measure to start - the first measure is actually just solo C's in the left hand (rather than the thirds specified here), followed by a measure of just C and D suspended in the left hand for three beats, before the RH melody enters in measure three and the D in the left hand resolves upwards to E.
Wow. Thank you. You can also hear it: the repeated last bar of Prelude V isn't a weird glitch, as I first thought. It actually is played twice. I wasn't aware of another edition. I do own the one depicted. In the video, Kazhlayev plays a completely different bass line in bars 26-29 of Prelude V (the fortissimo from 8:58). Does your edition reflect that? Same for Prelude IV, bar 8, where the composer plays a AbM7 chord on the second beat instead of a rather awkward B7b9b13 on the third (at 5:10). Don't want to hassle you, just keen to get the music right.
That's fantastic. This deserves a much wider audience. Can't find the sheet music in print - would be really grateful if someone knows how to get it and tags me/equivalent. Many thanks for posting.
