- Our engagement story is one I never could have dreamed up. But my fiancé, Joshua Woodall, is incredible and pulled off the surprise of a lifetime!
He is always encouraging me toward a life of adventure. So when my friend Alicia (who is an amazing photographer) told me she had won a photo contest and a free trip to Italy I was completely on board to explore the beautiful country with her. I had no idea that the all inclusive trip to Italy was all a ruse and part of Joshua's plan to propose.
I soon realized that I had massively over-packed for the trip as Alicia, myself and two of my roommate (Shannon and Estee) boarded planes, trains, limos and water taxis venturing toward our Air B&B in Venice. Alicia and I did some small photo shoots each day, so when she told me that we would be doing a photo shoot on the terrace of the Metropole Hotel, I didn't think anything out of the ordinary was about to happen.
Alicia asked me to wear a gown for the shoot so I borrowed a beautiful purple gown from my roommate Shannon. We headed up the stairs to the rooftop terrace. My friends and I and half the hotel staff! Then I heard a familiar song playing, and I thought "how the heck is this song playing in Venice?. I had written and recorded the song "Divine Romance" about a year ago and was so confused by the fact that it was playing in a place I'd never been before.
When I reached the top of the stairs, I was blown away! There was Joshua in a brand new custom tailored suit, surrounded by candles and blue roses (my favorite.) I was in shock and as the beauty of the moment set it, I began jumping up and down with excitement. Joshua told me that the whole trip was part of his plan to propose and my friends had helped him plan the beautiful moment. We sat down to a six course gourmet meal with perfect wine pairings as a violin player serenaded us. After Joshua got down on one knee, fireworks started going off. I just kept saying, "I can't believe I get to be your girl forever! We're going to have the best life!"
The thing that means the most to me about our engagement story, is the sacrifice Joshua made to make it happen. He saved up for a year and planned every detail. He emailed the staff at the Metropole hotel for months to ensure the plan could be carried out according to his vision. I am blown away by this man. When he has vision for something, there isn't anything he can't do. He inspires me to dream big and I am so grateful to be his new fiancé.
