​フィールド・レコーディングやワールド・ミュージックにジャズ、アンビエントやアコースティック等、様々な要素が交差して生まれた『WARM WAVE』。2019年の「FESTIVAL de FRUE 2019」で来日した記憶も新しい、カルロス・ニーニョやサム・ゲンデルにララージといった、注目すべきミュージシャンが集って創られた、今最も魅力的で面白いオーガニックグルーヴ溢れるサウンドがここにある。
ECHOES of WARM WAVES
When we listen to recorded music, we immerse ourselves in waves from the past. Waves
whose original shapes have dissipated, but which were recorded and are then played back,
continue to send echoes of their original forms rippling into the present. The basis of this
particular album was group improvisations recorded using a process involving live magnetictape loops, manipulated in real time by Mitchell Brown. The repetition and degeneration of the original sound waves, present in the recording process via simultaneous playback and rerecording,acts as a foreshadowing of future replications and listenings.
Recordings of improvisations were created in this manner by the core group of Mia Doi Todd,Andres Renteria, Mitchell Brown and myself. Selected sections were taken from these
recordings and additional layers were then added, this time through solo improvisations by
Laraaji, Sam Gendel & Luis Pérez Ixoneztli. Carlos Niño then continued this process by
remixing ‘Passing Rain’ with Jamael Dean’s piano interpretations interspersed.
We hope that listening to ‘Warm Waves’ will give you, the listener, a sense of the warm feelings between its creators and envelop you in the spirit of openness and play that went into its making.

Not sure how I missed this a few weeks ago as it's an LA dream team of some of my favourite musicians (Carlos Niño, Jesse Peterson Mia Doi Todd, Sam Gendel, Laraaji & more) but this is a wonderful improvised blend of New Age vibes, plugged in spiritual jazz & ambient leanings for Plant Bass Records that floats around your brain like the smell of wild flowers on a summer picnic until the last dusky tracks remind you that the city beckons once more.
