      totally agree, we are going to be debt-free by mid-next year although we have also put the brakes on it for a new bub coming in 6 months, so far we have $15K in the war chest and what does not get used on the new bub can then be funneled back into knocking out the debt.

      Baby Step 1: Save $1,000

      of Expenses in a Fully Funded
      Emergency Fund
      Baby Step 3B: save for a downpayment for a house if you don’t have one already and if not able to pay all with cash. Must be a 15 year fixed rate and the payment should be only 1/4 of your income and no more.

      I agree with you. People think sacrifice is a HUGE thing but in this context - Dave Ramsey's get out of debt - it's for a limited time. Which makes it more palatable. Also, I think people's spending habits change during the sacrifice period and I don't think people will go back to their old spending habits. I've read his book and shortly thereafter I had to go through my "sacrifice" period and I've come out better at the end. Friends and family did not understand that I was CHOOSING to give up because I had an end goal.

    • @wborden
      @wborden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes you can. Financial Freedom is an individualized plan. One has to educate themselves and devise the best plan for them. Personally, I wouldn’t just keep $1k for savings because if one works a job and gets laid off, there’s no guarantee they can get another job quickly thus you’ll go back into debt. I get the logic of that small fund is the motivator to pay down the debt ASAP but you can still do it with 3 months of emergency fund. One idea is when you get towards the end of step 2 and the balance of all debt is your savings-$1k, then use it for the final payment. Then one can replenish it. BTW 3-6 months for me is way too low. 12 is my number. That’s because I’ll never do step 4 because it doesn’t fit my wealth building stragety

    I was surprised that on this case they went on the exception, save as muuuuch money as possible and after baby is safe and sound and house finances steady, THEN continue tackling debt. (Just paying current installments, not falling behind though). Congratulations for the baby!

    This is why the baby steps are a good thing. Gives your priority and order. If you're in the debt payoff part, pay off the debt. If you're in the savings step, save.
    Baby throws a wrench in it, but after that keep it simple, and follow the steps.

    The way I’m paying off debt is saving the total amount and then pay it off in one lump sum. That way if you ever run into problems you have the money to pay for it. Eventually you will have the money to pay everything off. Just budget your monthly expenses and be very strict on spending.

And then he said that God talk to you when you angry, when you ain't got no other way but to go to him. You ever notice that when you mad as "hell" your hot? You feel a fire inside? The Bible says that God is a consuming fire. And I've really witnessed results during the times I was hot. Praise God and this guy definitely the truth.

    I’m frustrated I have no one to talk about money. It’s sad because I had try to speak to my family about money they got this weird look in their faces. They tell me not to worried 😦 we all going to die and don’t even enjoy that money. Others give me ideas on how to invest the lil money We have saved. My dad ask me once why my husband work so much and so hard 😂 I told him so he don’t have to work as much and as hard when he gets old he laugh and said but that’s when you work the most. And he is my father i have nothing but love ❤️ and respect for him, so I said nothing just walk away. They all think I’m a frivolous woman hungry for more money. When in reality I just want to get out of debt save for my kids education, save for retirement and have several sources of income. And on top of that my husband don’t put any interest in our budget even when I ask him to have a budget meeting. He tells me yes but never happened and I don’t want to force him I think he is a grown man and should know better. By the way I’m 29 pregnant with my 3rd have 22 k saved and a lot of debt and I can’t stop feeling guilty for have that money saved up with all the debt we have but at the same time I feel secure and safe. And My husband is about to get laid off.

    Every year I add $5000 in debt, but I also contribute $20000 to my (Canadian) retirement savings account RRSP (= 401k in the USA). The debt is under a line of credit at a 7% per year interest rate (now, but variable with the prime rate). The RRSP has been giving me an 11% per year return over the last 5 years. I've been doing this "game" for almost 5 years. I have reached now $140000 in my RRSP account but I also have $26000 as debt. Should I continue this game or should I stop?
    It's probably worth mentioning that $20000 in RRSP contribution is giving me a bit over $8000 in tax savings (deferred until after retirement, the money is being taxed on withdrawal; once you retire and stop the RRSP contribution, you have to withdraw around 4% per year). Retirement in 10 years.
