International Plumbing Code gives information about traps, interceptors and separators. In this video, Plumber-Tom explains sections 1003 and 1004. This covers grease intercepters, automatic grease removal devices, oil separators, and interceptors for keeping other things from going down the drain.

how much of the code material will likely be on the exam for alabama journeyman

Not sure. But you can find out by contacting your state department of licensing. There is probably a candidate bulletin that will outline what is on the test.
