    I’ve often wondered how with economic crisis, threatening wars, and a host of others, traders are still able to ascertain risks and still getting profitable investing, any ideas how its done, my portfolio has been more on the negative than positive.

    Stocks extended their year-to-date rally following the CPI report, with the S&P 500 last up 0.8% in afternoon trading. but I don't know if stocks will quickly rebound, continue to pull back or move sideways for a few weeks, or if conditions will rapidly deteriorate.I am under pressure to grow my reserve of $250k.

    All well said, but the S&P 500 being a market cap weighted index means that if information technology and “the big 7” fall to the wayside and are replaced by another 7 companies in 10 years time that become the most valuable companies in the world the rise and subsequent performance of those companies will simply be what is driving the index, it’s impartial to any specific industry, sector or group of companies. It basically tracks the biggest winners over time. Every decade or so there’s a big sea change in the market and subsequent turbulent waves in between.

      @@CyanTeamProductions VOO, IVV, and SPLG are all S&P 500 ETFs. They have some of the lowest fees for the index so you just pick the one with the funniest acronym and make regular contributions to it whenever you get paid to average over the market bumps. Retail investors who try to make greater profits than this method are large in part gambling and more often do worse than the S&P.
      You could make a lot of money if you can make use of information that nobody else has yet, but to do that you either need a skillset that would see you much better compensated as a consultant for large corporations, or be the only person in the world able to see the future because if it was something you could learn to do enough people would do it that the prices would already have future premonitions priced in by now.

    the S&P 500 is a growth oriented index that happens to pay some dividends. That does not make it a bad investment. Academics over complicate investing. The index is made up of extremely well run companies. Simply buy and hold an ETF tracking the index and you will be just fine. Its track record is there for all to see.

      Invest outside of the s&p500, globally and in different assets. Bonds, property, commodities as examples.

    • @MJ-uk6lu
      @MJ-uk6lu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatFinanceShow The problem with that is that commodities just aren't investments, property as in actually buying and renting is very risky since you most likely can't diversify, bonds depend on where you live and in some places getting foreign bonds is just not worth it due to fees. Outside of SP500, there's only mid caps and small caps left. Both can be potentially more profitable, but much less so when adjusted to risks.
      I personally have been looking a bit at what stocks tend to be actually profitable and at least in European indices it seems that big countries all stagnated, meanwhile most returns generated were from smaller countries and even then from very few companies. So unless you look at dividend stocks, the actual growth is just more or less dead in whole market except few aberrations. Some countries like Mexico had insane stock profitability, but it's also true that there is a ton of risk and currency exchange nonsense.
      Overall it just looks like there's a mass global stagnation of public company growth and avoiding SP500 is just not really wise as in other success stories, there's still a massive concentration of few growers and a lot of stagnation, if not outright declines. I guess the most sensible thing to do is just adopt Bogle-like mindset and look at investment defensively. Basically be conservative, don't buy into hype, have a consistent investment routine, manage risks well, don't ignore bonds and still try to not put all savings into investments.

    The S&P500 is not the mag 7 and will never be, it's ONLY the mag 7 NOW... it's dynamic, as in if the mag 7 fail, it rotates and self cleanses with the companies in whatever the next hot industry is. Every decade, the list of the top 10 companies are always different... the index self cleanses and you are not at risk because the SPY is "overweight" on big tech/mag 7.
    Furthermore, many other developed economies including Germany have their national indices way more concentrated than the SPY.

      IMO this is a great video on the topic, although I disagree about the covered call ETFs, I think you can skip that, but otherwise it's a good video. Also IMO those target date funds are unnecessarily conservative. If you're decades away from retirement you can safely have much more than 60% in equities, although as you get closer you definitely want to move to more conservative investments. I'd recommend "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham. It's not just about value investing, but also has a lot of good information for passive investors as well.

      How and where do you calculate this? What's your source? Interested to try it with different stocks.

      @@kelle_li he's mistaken. There hasn't been a 97% drawdown in these stocks at all. Perhaps if he's done a CFD short and is heavily underwater.

      What on earth are you talking about? Have you been rolling up the charts and smoking them?

      🤑🤣If you invested £20,000 pounds at the beginning of 2023, split across Netflix, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Tesla shares, your investment is now worth £7,360 pounds a lost of £12,640 pounds. This is a loss of 63.2%.. I'd need a smoke after loosing that much money a few drinks too.
