As the owner-builder of a mud brick house, I get the joy in playing in mud! Not sure why I don't have a similar planting yet, TBH. Might have to start developing a tree with this in mind. Looks like you are really expanding your tool box of skills; I love it! Looking forward to the pot reveal - potting is one thing, painting is quite another . . .
Sam,i used a small drill bit and drilled about 20 small holes about 10 ml deep and then filled them up with liquid nails and stuck the wire in but had to wait for the next day to start planting, love your work mate.
Great project well executed, we all have to figure things out as we go along. I have a 3 large trees forest planting. Over time the much erodes away. Will add moss, that should help. Great video.
What would happen if you were to cover the base with clear plastic to hold in moisture and allow light into the moss. It would also keep the birds from picking off the moss before it is established. Great project, Sam.
@@SamDoeckeAussiebonsaibloke I wasn’t suggesting that the plastic be sealed to prevent any air circulation. I was suggesting draping plastic over the base until the moss is established. The plastic would allow you to control humidity and keep birds from stealing the moss before it gets established. If you are concerned about mold you can always life the plastic manually or support the plastic over some sort of frame. You could also use screen over the base to keep the birds out but that would not allow humidity control. I do agree that the risk of mold would be high if you sealed the plastic over the base.
Thanks for the video. Tree looks amazing, so pretty and green with all that moss. You didn't show us your pottery. I'm doing pottery classes online (Ancient Potters Club) and I am totally hopeless at painting. I love playing in the mud 😊, but painting is definitely not my thing. I still haven't made a bonsai pot yet. I only low-fire in a camp fire not a kiln, so the clay might not fire strong enough for bonsai pots.
Hi There, another Aussie enthusiast here. I recently picked up some dwarf bottlebrush, I dug them up and potted them. They looks good when i got them but i'm pretty sure i have over watered them. leaves are dead and I'm questioning weather or not I've killed the trees. What soil it best for a potted native? I have half dirt half organic potting mix. Any tips would be much appreciated!
We use a tile and glass arrow shaped drill bit for similar drilling of softish material. About $20 from a hardware. They are the goods for what your doing. 👍🇦🇺🦘 and you don’t need to use the hammer on the drill

Which species is this if you can mind my ignorance. I have one very similar to yours in size but my trunk is longer before division. Melaleuca of some sort. Soon as i seen that one i said they are the same. ?👍🦘🇦🇺
That planting is friggen wicked!! That's the perfect tree for it! Well done Sam!
Now that is a picture perfect looking tree. Nice trunk and cool canopy. Massive amount of roots on it and they look healthy.
Looks great Sam, will need constant dampness on a hot day... every time you have a beer the plant will need one too (or the other way round) 😂
Ha ha thanks mate 😃
Hi Sam, Aussie Dave here, I use ( not much-needed) granular sulphur in my bonsai soil, it will lower the pH but is a good anti fungal supplement
Thanks for the tips!
Wow that tree looks fantastic!
The slab planting turned out really cool.
Great show and tell video with a great planting at the end!!!😊
Love the dogs! We lost our girl a few months ago to cancer, she was 12 though and had a great life. Dogs are amazing.
Sorry to hear mate. Sad to let them go. They give us soo much love

Nice job bloke!
Thank you for the knowledge
I love this penjing, it’s heaps rad!
Nature in miniature quintessentially!
Good blessings to you and yours, in Yeshua’s name♥️
I'm impressed with Sam's beautiful work, you should place more plants on the slab and put the slab on an incline and look at Kimura's work.
Sam, this is awesome!! Looks like an old farm tree way up on a hill. Freaking awesome mate!! ❤❤
Creative work Sam, very natural looking!

Would love to live in a Mud house. Free insulation 😃😃
I enjoyed the journey in this, thank you

Beauty
Love the work as you say this is bonsai great job
It looks absolutely fantastic Sam - this year was my first time doing something with Muck when I put two trees onto a large rock planting :)
Awesome mate. Will have to take a look
I actually enjoy the longer video. I might give trying to put a bonsai on a slab a go some time.
The tree looks amazing,i think we all have those days of second guessing.
Nioce one bloke!
Cheers bloke
Hi aussie bonsai bloke, great job and love the videos. Lol I'm a pommie bonsai bloke 😅
G'day pommy bonsai bloke
Excellent job! Hope to see an update in a few months to see how it progresses.
Will do mate. So far soo good. Is in my last video.
really nice mel - gets pretty warm at the bridge - let us know how you keep the water up to it
Auto system. Up to 4 times a day in summer. Hopefully it will be OK.

Looks like a masonry bit is what you're after. They make light work of drilling stone.

Feel like mould and bad stuff would grow. Not enough circulation
Constant watering and gutter gaurd or bird house I feel.

I wonder if you could put stones into the muck to simulate a stone wall all around the tree with moss growing between the stones. Just a thought.

Pots are a lot of fun but a workshop takes the hassle out for me. Not going to make a career out of it 😃
Aussie Dave here Sam, bloody awesome job and video 😂❤. But what happens when you have to repot 🤔. Please show as how the muck goes in summer time.
Ilk let you know. I guess repot will mean new Muck wall 🧱
👍👌🙂
I guess the option of corn starch is for the gluten free bonsai artist......

Put 2 largish rock in the cut outs
Melaleuca Linariifolia 'Claret tops'

Thus is a claret top. Liniarfolia maybe 🤔
I love the crap. It’s making it real for the majority 👍🦘🇦🇺
