    Remove the upper strut tower brace cross bar, it's not worth beating-up the blower, and risking damage to engine components as you try to rip out, and stuff in the new one through the small space. There are 4) 13mm bolts to remove it. There also may be 2 shims between the bar and the bracket (1 on each side L & R). After you have the blower motor replaced, re-install the bar and torque it to 40 ft/lbs.

      I've got a 98, Olds 88. Looks like it would make it easier to take the brace off, and it's just 4 bolts.

    I notice that you sped up and even had a camera cut during the removal/replacement of the blower motor from the engine bay. It looks like a wrestling match to get out from under the stabilizer bar. Is removing the bar not an option?

    • @exDrBob1
      @exDrBob1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not only an option, it's a smart idea! Just be mindful of any shims that may be between the bar and it's bracket. I had one on the left and right sides of the vehicle.

    I don't have a 3/8" drive wobble head ratchet. 13mm Gear Wrench worked good. My plastic motor cover disintegrated into many pieces. I installed without a new cover. I was told it is for noise and insulation. Not totally necessary.

  • @exDrBob1
    @exDrBob1 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 4:04, he mentioned the "elbow for the drain". It's actually cooling air for the backside of the motor. Don't delete it! You'll be sorry if you do, the motor will overheat.

    • @exDrBob1
      @exDrBob1 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 4:57 he mentions to point the "drain" hose down. WRONG!! Connect it to the nipple from the HVAC box, that's right there by the motor. When the blower is running, pressurized air comes out of that nipple, to be blown into the backside of the motor, to cool the motor armature. Not connecting it will lead to an overheated blower motor, and possible smoke/fire from the heat the blower motor generates.

    If you have intermittent squealing, try a little WD40 on the bearing before replacing the whole assembly. Worked for me and it only took 5 minutes start to finish!

    • @greggrasty715
      @greggrasty715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont do this - especially if you have the auto hvac - eventually the fan will pull too much current and blow a 200 $ part. IF its making noise and you plan on keeping the car replace the motor. IMO If its the old school non auto temp controls maybe i would attempt it. Im sure it can handle more current also cheap to replace.

  • @hvillehughes08
    @hvillehughes08 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it's squealing really loud would it be the blower motor and resistor or does it all come in 1? I saw smoke from that area yesterday

    I have a 2003 Buick LeSabre Limited and no one has a video on how to replace the blower motor. My blower motor sounds like a motor boat outboard engine and unlike in your video here, it appears to be a lot more complicated to uninstall and install the new blower motor. I sure wish that you could upload a video on the installation technique that is required for the 2003 Buick LeSabre Custom or Limited. Any info would be a great help, Thanks.

      You may or may not have seen the video I did 8 months ago which I'm calling a rescue video if you tap on the blower motor housing kind of lightly the motor may start but remember make sure that you get it fixed as soon as you can this is only for emergency use only if you are stuck in bad weather make sure that you turn the fan too high before you tap it if it does not start then you may or may not have a bad motor just a suggestion

    wow im kinda bummed... i changed my blower motor after watching this video and now my air barely blows through the vents :( I guess little air is better than no air. Thanks for the video. Does this vehicle come with a cabin air filter? I can here it blowing hard and i can change the were the air goes (winshield or floor) the heater also works as well. Something is just blocking it from blowing hard. Any suggestions?

    • @1AAuto

      You may want to take the blower motor back out and see if there's something in the housing blocking the airflow.

    Not getting any air through the system; removed blower fan and found "walnuts" inside! Checked blower motor and it spun, but not fast. Cleaned out walnuts as far as I could reach. How did the squirrel get them in there and how can I completely clean the passages. 94 buick lesabre.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually small critters like mice and chipmunks are the culprits in finding their way into the blower motor. You may be okay. You may want to put it back together to see if it starts working.

    • @greggrasty715
      @greggrasty715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Buick lesabres come with walnuts in the blower fan housing in my experience I guess from the factory. They bang around on the blower motor fan to keep the blades clean / not the fact that they all sit in grandmas driveway for years while she cant drive and the walnuts only become discovered by her grandson when he uses it for college. The walnuts only get removed when the grandson sells the car to a middle aged man that doesn't care what he looks like on the way to work so he can destroy it on I80. Has to be the right guy - the guy who cant tell if that is grandmas pee or mice pee or maybe doesn't care as he knows if he leaves the windows down long enough the smell will fade.
      LOL but honestly good luck getting them out, but its typical to find these cars in that kind of shape as they tend to sit for years. IF you manage to get them out and drive it daily it ll be fine but i would check the screens by the windshield wipers that is the intake i believe and if they are busted it would be direct access for critters.

    • @greggrasty715
      @greggrasty715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have 12volts and the new motor dont spin then either you have a bad ground or a bad feed. Or the new motor is bad. Easy to test the motor run two wires from batter straight to motor if it spins motor is good. IF motor good better load test the 12 volt side with test light - if the 12volt side has week connection it will drop to zero volts or test light will go out when you turn on fan. If when you turn on fan the voltage stays then all points to bad ground. In that case run a new wire to ground vs looking for the issue.....peace

    • @greggrasty715

      @@WalkerKSOB2000 In my experience if the fan blows up it takes the " resistor" with it and that was likely the smell as it appears to sit inside the vent cavity I assume to help keep it cool and have air moving across it? Anyway If you have the fancy auto hvac with digital readout its expensive part 100 to 200 bucks and typical to blow up with the fan. Good part to get from you pull it joint if your a person with more time than money.....If its the slider controls then its cheap and looks like a few springs... but either way its in the same spot to the left and up from the blower motor - under the relays and such.....it has two clips one clip has a red wire - that is the feed. If you test and its hot but the purple wire on the other clip is dead with the fan on high then that's likely your issue. Im not a mechanic just a guy with several Buicks and a degree in electronics.... To help you even more here is a schematic for the blower section on the auto hvac assume that is what you have.....
      drive.google.com/file/d/1aeVPzRzMo6I_UXGviVU61oMVc1sKb6dL/view?usp=sharing
      No need to find the 30 amp to test you just test the red wire at the resistor if its hot fuse is good. Even if you find that part is bad and the fan motor is still good IMO its wise to go ahead and get a new motor and new resistor because the old fan could be pulling to much current and you dont want to buy two of those expensive parts better off spending your money on a cheap fan motor vs buying a second resistor and then a new fan motor.... I always wonder who and why people write things to help other people and now im wasting my time doing it. In my case its because im a nice guy and im bored LOL. Anyway hope it helps someone !
