I’m in that audience. This is purely a personal opinion, based on having followed the band since before Miho left. Miho wrote this song, and it’s good, really good. Early Lovebites has several “Phrygian” influenced passages (as does Judgement Day). It’s the first song you hear (after the classical/heavy instrumental “Awakening” by Miyako) if their first album is your introduction to Lovebites. It’s also regularly used as a show/encore intro. As it has 3 distinct bass solos it’s obvious that the band wanted Fami front and centre from the get go. Personally, I think it was also chosen to make a statement. To Miho.
0:33 "We - are - baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!" 😁 A shout of victory and relief. Victory over challenging and demanding issues they were able to settle. Relief, because they were/are free to go on stage again, after 2 years of hiatus. 😄 With their new bass player Fami, successor of their former bass player (and founder of Lovebites), Miho. 😊 Miho still deserves honor, for she founded Lovebites and paved the way for their current success. Thank you, Miho! 😄 👌👍🐺
You would never have guessed that from her performance and stage presence that this was: 1) the first time Fami had played in public with Lovebites and 2) that this was the first time Fami had played live in front of an audience of any size. I love this quote from an interview back in February when Fami said: " .... there's one thing I'm looking forward to more than anything else. I'm really looking forward to seeing the audience's reaction live. Up until now, I've only done videos on TH-cam, so I've only had the chance to get feedback in text on a 16:9 screen .... I've never been able to actually perform in the three-dimensional world and communicate with the audience, where they can respond with expressions and cheers." "Perform in the the three dimensional world", Fami is a true child of the virtual digital age and of a completely different mindset to her bandmates and I am sure that is why they obviously love her and her talents.
I did n't expect anything else though I was really thinking of the whole of KAHG. I am going start following in your footsteps and go to Japan to see them play live in their own country. I have MS and though mobile my walking is not very good. Do venues in Japan have any areas for people like me with some level of disability. ?@@alekhidell
That bass transition was on the original and Miho plays it a little differently. Fami slaps it while Miho finger picked it. A hidden gem in my opinion is the rhythm Miyako is playing as Midori starts her solo. That guitar rhythm with those perfectly miked tom hits by Haruna is perfection.
Yeh, Miyako throws some really nice stuff on the back, like in Raise Some Hell, while Midori is hitting her solo, Miyako's rhythmic portion sounds so punchy
I think Miho played that bass transition notes as single notes, but looks and sounds like Fami plays them in octave notes. Her smiles are just so bright and infectious!
Haruna is an absolute beast. She really is an exceptional drummer. And there are indeed many thrash elements in their music, this is just one of the most obvious examples. Lovebites can get really aggressive and thrashy opposed to most other power metal bands. It's one of the many, many things that makes them so great.
Maybe i'm wrong but i i don't think any reactor has payed any attention to those toms. WTF (as Yukina might have said). They provide half of the feeling during the solo and still they don't seem to get them.
I think Haruna is often over-looked. You need to tune in to her performance (difficult I know when the others are so good) to appreciate all that she can do with hands and feet at the same time. I think she's even more amazing in Nameless Warrior from the same show.
Those bass parts were like that with Miho, too. Check out Awakening/Hammer of Wrath live from 2020. Still one of my favorites, but good lord, Haruna sounds amazing on the drums in this one!
It is Haruna that starts the solo section for Midori, Miyaki and Fami. And she do it here: 4:26 when she instead of just going on playing lifts her drum sticks for 1 second or so and then start playing in backbeat. That is the signal to Midori to play her Egyptian thing. It is such a strong power in that second just lifting her sticks. It hits me every time.
Great reaction, thanks Champ. Ignore the nitpickers! Although you really should go back and hear Asami's "Go", almost a guttural vocal which is unusual for her. Haruna kills it on this opening track, and then goes on at that pace for the next 90 mins or so, the whole concert bluray is awesome.
Lovebites are every bit as coherent, cohesive and driven as they've ever been. The songs we've had from this concert show a band who are truly loving what they're doing. Fami's bass transitions are a little different technique-wise but they are in there originally, yep. That little energiser bunny at the back, Haruna, is one of the most impressive drummers in recent memory. I also want a poster of Fami on the wall here.. just her big ol' smiley face.. how could she not brighten up your mood every time you would look? Down in the dumps? Lost and confused? Tired and worn out? Smiley face! Sorted.
2:32 You should check out their song Empty Daydream Live in Tokyo 2019. It has Miyako + Miho harmonizing beautifully for a couple lines backing Asami then Miho drops off and its just Miyako backing Asami and its amazing!
I do not say that nobody else can play this (for sure there are hundreds of super talented musicians out in this world), BUT this is simply a perfect combo in terms of song writing, stage presence, stage personality, outfit, and performance...
I agree. Also there are of course thousands of great musicians, but having a band, where every single musicians is this skilled, is certainly much less common.
Hey, dude! You MUST react to Lovebites - Dissonance from their new album! MUST! For a great headbang! Thanks for reaction! Best wishes from Bulgaria - Europe! Cheers!🥃
The "Hammer of Anger" is one of their early works, and was often performed in combination with the instrumental "THE AWAKENING" as the first song of the opening or encore of a live concert. Very few songs in their repertoire have solo parts for bass or drums, and this revival concert was a perfect opening song because of the aspect that it was the first performance of the new member FAMI.
